Here's a pic of the cleaned nozzles, for those curious how it turned out. Did not remove the nozzles, instead dipped them in the ultrasonic cleaner, submerging the entire nozzle in the solution. Spent close to an hour with soap and water (left nozzle). The same for the right nozzle but also added it to a baby bottle with gasoline in it, placed in the sonic bath for another 15 min and it came out even cleaner. The shiny sheen is gone, holes are now clearly visible.
Wish that these weren't so incredibly hard to take apart. Would have been great to spray some wd40 through the nozzle to check the spray pattern. But seeing how the car only has 102,000km, I don't suppose it's necessary to take them apart in order to fit in new nozzles. Bet that the decent bath they got should suffice for the time being.
A new day, a new update, another question: how important is the injector o'ring (see pic below)
Today I finally removed all the injectors, cleaned them, put them back with new crush washers from Merc. Threw away the upside down fuel lines and replaced those with new ones that weren't deformed. Tried to start the car, still no go. Mind you, it was -1C in the evening and I had not plugged the car in seeing how the block heater doesn't seem to be working. But even at -1 I figure the car should have started after a few tries. It felt as though it would start after nearly draining the battery, so things aren't worse then before. They're just about the same, which was a bit disappointing. Thought for sure that the clean injectors nozzle and new injector crush washers would make a diff.
Then it had me thinking: could the lack of the o'rings be letting compression by? None of the injectors had o'rings on. It looked as though the middle injector bay/hole had the o'ring stuck in the groove. Felt it with a dentist's pick, it appears to be there but wasn't certain on that. The other two holes had clean grooves, for sure no o'rings there.
So, how important are these o'rings and could this be the reason for the hesitant start, possibly due to loss of compression? If so, can I get these from Merc? Or can I fit different o'rings in place?
The pic below is from the injector on the right side of the engine. Yaikes. Looked far better after the nozzle spent close to an hour on an ultra sonic bath with water and soap. Then a 15 minute bath in gasoline, in the ultra sonic cleaner. Came out so clean I can easily see the holes with a magnifying glass. But should I be worried about all that carbon on the nozzle? Is it normal for it to have this much carbon? It looks like the PO had the injectors removed at some point, the white goo in the pic is an indication of that and also the missing o'ring. The crush washers were also in place.
