  1. Tolsen, thank you for all your input in this blog. It has proved immeasurably helpful for working on my 2005 Fortwo diesel. I am from western Canada. I just cleaned the EGR cartridge that was clogged up with carbon residue. Everything went well (including the building of my own extraction tool, inspired by your design) but... that thin red o-ring broke in the endeavour. The Canadian Mercedes dealers don't seem to be able to supply the o-ring on its own. Do you have any suggestions as to where I might obtain one?

its just an o-ring....doesnt need to be a special dealer one...try a local hydraulics shop theyll probably just give you one

  2. Thank You for the reply on the lowering bolts, My main problem is knowing if I can replace this water pump while the veh has a jack stand on the rear pass wheel with the tire and inner fender off or if I have to jack up both sides and remove axles and x bars and motor mounts plus exhaust to lower engine to complete the Task. I have no problem attempting this task but only want to do the things that are needed. I have looked all over for a Mitchell or Haines book on this car, Thanks Mike

  4. I saw your reference of the Redtek and how well it worked. I've used the Kit (Sealer and Top-up) several times on full size cars. Is there a special procedure for the Smarts? Amount of each canb, pressure, etc.

    Cheers,

    Todd

the ingredients as listed on the msds sheet

      30 to 60% dimethyl methane

      40 to 70% methylethyl methane

      1 to 13% ethanol

and 15% trade secret ingredients which is most likely the sealer formula

the methane is likely the refrigerant

im assuming the sealer can is mostly refrigerant with just a bit of sealer mixed in

all i did was add sealer to my system which im pretty sure was empty ..my hose has a gauge and it got to the high end of the blue from less than one can of the redtek proseal (the one that says good for aluminum leaks not the one for seal leaks)...i was really surprised it worked because when i first got my smart i added refridgerant and it immediately spewed a stream of oil from a pin sized hole in the lower part of the condenser..i really didnt expect it would seal that

  8. Hello, Bill,

Are you still making trailer hitches for the 2006 450 Smart?  If so, how much do they cost to make and ship to Ontario?  I would like one to carry my bicycles to different locations.
