  1. Woa, wait a minute. What about everything about these little cars that work and is good, and furthers the mistique...... Like the rear view mirror, the cup holder, the..... the..... Ya, well the rims never gave me trouble. Neither has the fuel filler cap. So there !!
  2. I understand that Smart Car Snogging might become a medal sport at both the next summer and winter Olympics. It’s obviously quite dangerous and is really a sport for the young. We ‘young-at-heart’ folks will only hurt ourselves.
  3. This is one of my old haunts. I spent several missing years of a 35 year sale career there, trying to perfect the ultimate ‘rum’n coke, squeeze of lime’. Came very close hundreds of times Personal afternoon sales meetings with colleagues used to be the norm, till MADD slapped us all, including my liver, into reality..... thankfully. Note.... I’m still striving for perfection, but at a slower pace and only at home after hours. Sign up 1. Liz & Glenn 2. Bill 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.
  4. Glad everyone seemed to enjoy it. When people take home leftovers from a small, personal-sized pizza, you know there was lots to eat. Good grub at a decent price. My new mantra.
  5. It was discussed and agreed to at the January outing that’s it time to go ‘slumming’, away from expensive, high-class bistros. So.....The Villiage Pizza & Restaurant in Mt Brydges (10km west of Lambeth), the source of our grub d’joir for the next outing. It’s the quintessential Mom&Pop restaurant, with good food and no pretentiousness. And yes, they’re licensed. They don’t have a website, but the do have this...... http://www.mountbrydges.ca/villagepizza.html And they have information posted on Facebook with reviews (mostly great)..... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Village-Pizza/221260094569108 I wanted to add a couple of photos of their take-out menu, but this site has a 2MB limit, plus I don’t know what I’m doing. They have daily specials and have agreed to stay open as long as we are there. Kick off time is 6 to 6:30, as usual. See y’all there, for some serious face filling. 7. Just a reminder about tomorrow (Tuesday) night’s Smart outing in Mt Bridges. It’s only about 10km west of London. Weather should be cold but clear, meaning good driving conditions. Here’s the address http://www.mountbrydges.ca/villagepizza.html They’re located near the main intersection of town.... the only traffic light. It’ll be an old fashioned family restaurant face fill. No balsamic reduction drizzled artistically on square plates here. I guarantee no one will leave hungry. The atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. Look forward to a fun night and come on out with the gang. SIGN-UP 1) Bill 2) Ron & Dot 3) Larry & Gail 4) Ralph 5) Liz & Glenn 6) 7) 8) 9) 10) Like this
  8. Ya, well I bought a third Smart car to make good and sure I couldn’t put another damned thing in me single car garage. And you know what?..... I can’t !!
  9. Looking at these pictures, the head that appears to be sitting on Snowball’s roof is a future Canada1 owner (I must have been really impressed by your new car Mike). I’m not in the resteraunt group picture, as I was probably still outside drooling and unable to stand up straight. It was a very good Smart car group evening !!
  10. Mine looks like this..... Canada1 No. 01/10 Thanks for the info Mike. Ain’t the Smart world strange. Now, back to alternators, batteries and other electrical charging gremlins.
  11. I had an ‘82 Cadillac that developed a sudden loose alternator belt that was not charging. It only got me about 100 Kms before everything shut down and I coasted into a gas station for a belt tightening and a boost to restart. Off topic, but do you know if the other Canada1s have the same dash plaque as you have ??
  12. I have generally been using diesel from Flying M truck stop on Hwy 4 just south of the 401 (note... NOT the Flying J truck stop at 401 & Highbury). They fuel up hundreds of big rigs and buses a day, so their product in storage is fairly fresh. They are usually about 5 cents/litre lower on both gas and diesel than anyone else around, including London. I always supplement with an additive. Always have and always will. btw.... my backup has always been Esso diesel.
  13. My Canada1 has power steering also, so it looks like it was ‘planned’ as standard on this model.

  15. Factory stereo with a back-up sub is a good system..... and I’ll debate anyone, anywhere on this point. Almost 30 years in the consumer electronics industry taught me a few things. I’ve got the same sub under the driver’s seat in my ‘05 Passion, and one new in a box also. Hope to put it into my Grandstyle, but have to drill out the rivets holding in the drawer under the driver’s seat first. I’ve got an aux input in both cars (standard on the ‘06) to use my XM radio. My GPS is also plugged into the cigar lighter. Quite a mess with a power splitter, custom XM mount, elastic band to hold everything together..... but it works and sounds great (until I hit a big bump). Plan for a custom install of the XM, GPS, a dash camera and my Scanguage early into the new year. It’ll be transferable to my ‘05 also. That’ll be my Xmas gift to myself. I’ll post some pictures when it’s done.

  17. Might be cheaper to get Glenn & Liz to move to Florida
  18. Sorry, have dinner for son’s 10th anniversary. Hope all the Smarties have a good time.
  19. I tried to search out answer and got a gazillion feedbacks, all quite confusing and tangential. OEM tires on front 4” 2006 Passion rims (I think it’s a ‘stylelines’) are 145/65R/15 OEM tires on rear 5.5” 2006 Passion rims are 175/55R/15 Who makes and what are the tallest and widest tires that these rims will safely accommodate, and are you currently using them ??? Could really use a concensus-type answer. Thanks.
  20. Swapped out the old all-season tires on the Grandstyle for 1 year old winters. Amazing difference in the ‘feel’ of the rolling resistance.... almost like there is none. Now watch the average daily temperatures start to soar up near 20C.
  21. I’ve got an ‘05 Passion with 130,000km on it that I bought new. Licence plate ‘75 MPG’ since new also. Never had trouble getting that, with a sensible right foot. Drove it out west in 2011 for 11,000km @ 74.1 MPG. It got a new engine @ 80,000km and a new alternator recently. Standard repairs like reluctor rings, front springs (due to potholes) and front bearings have been done. It needs a windshield (chips), front brakes (rotors and pads) and 2 rear tires to pass safety. This is all typical of ‘05 & ‘06 Smart cars. I used it for work, driving 80km daily @ 110km/hr for several years... no trouble. But now it’s mostly retired and should be sold to someone that will use it regularly (I have 2 x ‘06 Smarts as well). I’d caution anyone looking at a high mileage vehicle. 250,000km/11 years = more annual mileage than most leases allow. There are decent low-mileage diesel Smarts out there. I just got an ‘06 Grandstyle with only 48,000km on it. As everybody is saying, they ain’t cheap to service or maintain, but the more they’re used, the better.
  22. Put the Canada1 in winter storage at Legendary Motorcars in Milton. First class facility. Not cheap, but they monitor everything, including battery and tire pressures. Temp and humidity controlled. Car cover. CTec battery tender. In/out privileges. Good potential for spring sale?? Looks kinda’ funny to see a Smart car sleeping between a ‘72 Ferrari Daytona and ‘37 Packard Twelve. Put a battery tender on my ‘05 Passion. Sitting in my garage for a couple of months. Started it a few week ago, but battery has since gone dead. Genius 3500 battery tender brought it back to full charge over last 24 hours. Will be swapping to snow tires next week, as weather forecast has temps turning much lower. Washed and vacuumed the Grandstyle. Had the oil changed last week. All this is starting to sound like a honey-do list, but I created it myself. When the tires are swapped, it’ll be a honey-done list.
  23. Not Smart related, but a great idea.....
  24. I tried a search, but got back too many threads to find my answers. Probably just not good at it, really. Question..... what fuel designation should be set on the Scan Gauge for an '06 450.... DIESELa or DIESELb ??? Question..... any set up differences between a Scan Gauge and a Scan Gauge II ?? Thanks
