  1. Thought I'd start a thread for humorous and/or thoughtful postings about life in general. Please keep everything in good taste. I hope this becomes a daily draw and brings lots of past Smart members back to the site, along with newbies also. So, here we go.....
  2. “The way we get things done is not to mind who gets the credit for doing them.” ~ Benjamin Jowett
  3. “Never reach out your hand unless you’re willing to extend an arm.” ~ Pope Paul VI
  4. “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” ~ Walt Disney
  5. “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” ~ Aristotle
  6. “The best way to make your dreams come true is to wake up.” ~ Paul Valery
  7. I started this this thread last September in hopes that people would post uplifting and meaningful ‘thoughts for the day’. You know, the type of comment or quote that makes you stop and think, reflect and absorb.... sort of ‘words to live by’. I hoped there’d be no political and zero religious comments appear, as they’re more debatable than thought points. I also hoped that there would be no direct comments on any current news items, as this is not the place. So let’s lay off politics, religion, corruption, current news and anything else negative that CNN and Fox fight over. Think about words you’ve heard that may have made a difference in you life, or maybe could or should have. Think positive. There’s already too much negativity in the world. The world has a long history of profound thinkers. Look for the ‘UPs’, the ‘SMILEs’, the ‘HAPPYs’, the things that make us all think and/or reflect within ourselves. Song lyrics can be uplifting and thought-provoking, and yet can be happy, as Mike T’s post above proves. If I read a few historic quotes each day, one will stick in my mind and become my ‘thought for the day’. “It is better to rust out than wear out.” ~ Edwin Markham
  8. “True originality consists not in a new manner but in a new vision.” ~ Edith Wharton
  9. “Many a trip continues long after movement in time and space have ceased.” ~ John Steinbeck
  10. “A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.” ~ George Bernard Shaw
  11. “We still do not know one thousandth of one percent of what nature has revealed to us.” ~ Albert Einstein
  12. Sorry, have dinner for son’s 10th anniversary. Hope all the Smarties have a good time.
  13. “Out of difficulties grow miracles.” ~ Jean de la Bruyere
  14. I tried to search out answer and got a gazillion feedbacks, all quite confusing and tangential. OEM tires on front 4” 2006 Passion rims (I think it’s a ‘stylelines’) are 145/65R/15 OEM tires on rear 5.5” 2006 Passion rims are 175/55R/15 Who makes and what are the tallest and widest tires that these rims will safely accommodate, and are you currently using them ??? Could really use a concensus-type answer. Thanks.
  15. Swapped out the old all-season tires on the Grandstyle for 1 year old winters. Amazing difference in the ‘feel’ of the rolling resistance.... almost like there is none. Now watch the average daily temperatures start to soar up near 20C.
  16. “The reward for work well done is the opportunity to do more.” ~ Jonas Salk
  17. I’ve got an ‘05 Passion with 130,000km on it that I bought new. Licence plate ‘75 MPG’ since new also. Never had trouble getting that, with a sensible right foot. Drove it out west in 2011 for 11,000km @ 74.1 MPG. It got a new engine @ 80,000km and a new alternator recently. Standard repairs like reluctor rings, front springs (due to potholes) and front bearings have been done. It needs a windshield (chips), front brakes (rotors and pads) and 2 rear tires to pass safety. This is all typical of ‘05 & ‘06 Smart cars. I used it for work, driving 80km daily @ 110km/hr for several years... no trouble. But now it’s mostly retired and should be sold to someone that will use it regularly (I have 2 x ‘06 Smarts as well). I’d caution anyone looking at a high mileage vehicle. 250,000km/11 years = more annual mileage than most leases allow. There are decent low-mileage diesel Smarts out there. I just got an ‘06 Grandstyle with only 48,000km on it. As everybody is saying, they ain’t cheap to service or maintain, but the more they’re used, the better.
