  1. Thought I'd start a thread for humorous and/or thoughtful postings about life in general. Please keep everything in good taste. I hope this becomes a daily draw and brings lots of past Smart members back to the site, along with newbies also. So, here we go.....

  11. Thanks to my magnetic personality, charming demeaner and overall good looks, I have once again been able to set up a Smart Car night at the weekly Plunkett’s Shown’Shine, in conjunction with the Hyde Park and District Lions Club. I requested and we have reserved Thursday, August 02nd. I’ve also requested and reserved our placement around the lake, as in years past. I hope as many Smarts as possible an come out. After all, this is our only real charity effort as a club (entry by donation). Plus we all do our best to eat as many hamburgers and hot dogs as possible...... also for charity. Make a note. Reserve the date. See everybody there. SIGN-UP 1) Bill 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) 8) 9) 10)

  14. This is Steve Plunkett’s weekly Show’nShine event, held in conjunction with the Hyde Park and District Lions Club. Appologies.... I incorrectly identified then as the Byron Lions Club above. This weekly Thursday night charity event draws upwards of 300+ cars on a nice clear evening. Our Smart Car group has attended the first Thursday in August for several years. This event is weather dependant, and is cancelled with inclement conditions. We’d love to see you out for the evening, but keep an eye on the local forecast and this website for updates. http://www.countrycruizin.com/ This event is not to be confused with Plunkett’s Fleetwood Country Cruise-in event, being held this year on June 2 & 3. This major, annual event drew 7,000 cars last year (4,500 on Saturday alone). It has been known and recognized throughout North America for many years for it’s venue and spectacle. The event goes on rain or shine, and is attended by thousands. This year it’s open to vehicles 1986 and older, or by special invitation of Steve Plunkett. http://fleetwoodcountrycruizein.com/
  15. Nobody has posted a June outing, so here goes..... Tuesday June 05th at GT’s On The Beach in Port Stanley. www.gtsonthebeach.com The menu looks fairly extensive and the reviews are favourable. Plus it’s a nice short drive for most from London and area. Plus it’s close to Mackie’s on the corner, for a quick Orangeade, Plus we just have to pass Shaw’s Ice Cream on the way home, for a cone or shake. Starting time is 6:30, unless you come early for a treat (maybe Mackie’s fries?) SIGN-UP 1. Bill 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
  16. Does it have cruise control? Paddle shifters? Heated seats? A/C? I’ve got to know, if you’re going to import over a thousand and hope to sell me a couple (just kidding, only one).

  19. Water not a problem. Bone dry on both sides. I heard of an ‘06 that leaked around the windshield from new, and it took 3 re-installt to finally correct the leaking.
  20. Started out on a drive to Chatham this morning (about 100km). My ‘05 acted like it had not been remapped. Gutless as I remember all my diesel Smarts were prior to remapping. Car has 130K on it and was remapped in 2011 at Flying Tiger in Vancouver. This phenominon happened once before last March, but an overnight stop renewed its normal remapped operation. No trouble since. This time it was a casual drive down the 401 with no time constraints, so I went ahead. But this time was different. On the highway, the car would not go over 110 on speedo (103 on GPS, due to tire size), no matter how I pressed the ‘gas’ pedal. To the floor was the same thing. Old MTS cruise control did nothing. Hitting small highway expansion joints cause the car to shift to 5th, with some slowing but no over-revving. Shifting to 6th only returned it to the same 110km/hr speed. Those expansion joints also caused the dash display to indicate a downshift was needed..... at 110 in 6th ??? After a 2 hour layover, the return trip from Chatham was fine with none of these symptoms. It was also fine later that same day. Has anyone else experienced this strange behaviour with their ‘05 ?? Any suggestions ??

  22. I wonder how big is the lawn mower they use? Or maybe the just go to a barber shop.
  23. All good ideas but I can only look into fuel system causes (like fuel cap) when the problem presents itself. As I mentioned, the problem is very intermittent. These cars exhibit TOO MANY intermittent problems. I installed a permanent connection for a battery tender last fall. I checked all connections and installed an upgraded battery ground cable at that time.
  24. Here’s hoping and praying all or cars live that long. Might be into June before he brings ‘the force’ back to it’s rightful place in the galaxy.
  25. Thanks for the feedback guys. Happened with the MDC cruise control on or off. Plus I’ve never had the cruise system downshift at 2,500 rpm. The MDC has been trouble-free since installed (10+ years). I like it better than factory system on my ‘06s. It has indicator lights and doesn’t deactivate with acceleration. Fuel filter’s under 3 years old, maybe 15,000 km. Happened on under half a tank of fuel, so i’d been driving for a week prior. I don’t suspect the fuel cap. I know exactly what you’re suggesting, and the trouble it can cause. Good idea, so I just checked it and it’s on tight also. My best and most economical source of checking all engine codes is currently touring Ireland with his lovely wife Liz. In the meantime I’ll keep my fingers crossed it keeps running. BTW.... no basic codes on Scan Gauge. Any more suggestions? Everything is helpful. Am I the only lucky Smartie that experienced this automotive blessing ??
