  2. BitBot,Sorry for the lack of response. I've been out of town for the last several weeks. The smart car judging is a little 'iffy' right now - still working on ideas - but not a detailing concours type of thing anyway, so don't spend too much effort on that. More of a fun event if we can get it going.ALL OTHER ITEMS, including the track parade laps are on.Hope to see you there.Regards, Roger

  10. WHO: All Michigan area smart owners, reservationists, and interested personsWHAT: A meet and greet meeting to form a Michigan smart Owners Group, followed by a smart tour of approximately 40 miles of enjoyable two lane roads ending at a restaurant with close access to I-96 for your return home. WHERE: smart center Bloomfield. 1765 S. Telegraph Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302. Rick Cortwright, brand manager of scB, has been gracious enough to allow us to use the training room at the dealership for this initial meeting.WHEN: Saturday, March 8 at 2:30pm. At approximately 4:00pm, when the dealership closes, we will leave on the smart tour to the restaurant.WHY: Fun, camaraderie, and general enjoyment of our smarts. There has been a lot of interest expressed in a Michigan Owners Group, so we are going ahead with these organizing efforts. Discussions will include what type of events hold the most interest, the best means of communication for the group, the opportunities to hold meetings/events in various areas of the state and generally what everyone would like to get from and contribute to this group. Please post questions, comments, and plans on attending to the forum, or e-mail me at mismart at comcast. netHope to see you there,Roger Stam
  11. Joker,If you still have the black car - I'll Take it! I live in metro Detroit. Just let me know, how & where to send payment. Thanks,Roger
  12. smart center Bloomfield also houses the offices of smartUSA headquarters. In addition PAG (Penske Auto Group) headquarters is about 1 mile away. To quote the Crains article: "About 30,000 people have reserved Smart Cars through Smart USA's online reservation program, which allows customers to order the Smart Car of their choice with a $99 refundable deposit. One of those was Roger Stam, who lives in White Lake Township and works as a database administrator for Yazaki North America Inc. in Canton Township. Stam, 60, was the first customer to receive a Smart Car on Thursday after reserving his car in March." That would be me and I'm luvin my new smart.
  13. Mike - Thanks so much for tracking the US cars. Please keep it up.Looks like 451 production has exceeded 100,000. Also seems to a higher percentage of cabs on this load.I'm really getting excited now.
  14. Oh yah, I've been lurking here for awhile.
  15. Great News. Looking forward to hearing reports from new 451 owners.
  16. I have to admit, MG, you caught me Ocassionally I like to play on the two track fire roads in Michigans UP. FJR1300 here LOL - Thats VERY funny for the topic thieft, now we return you to your regulary schedule thread.Regards,
  17. Thats got to be the quote of the month Smartser. Hope you guy get your new smarts soon.
  18. Regina, I've enjoyed your sense of humor on several boards for many months, and you were doing great above until right at the very end. But, I guess that we all have a predjudice if you look deep enough. I really hope you were kidding. My last 5 vehicles have been Jeep Grand Cherokees (V8's too). I live in Michigan and commute 60 miles/per day and MUST be at work regardless of weather. I also go up north pulling snowmobiles, tow a boat trailer, and a motorcycle trailer. SUV's do the job for me.Am I a 'SUV Bubba'? I also have a '74 Fiat 124 convertible in the garage (purchased new 33 years ago). I've owned 6 VW bugs, 3 VW transportors, bought new an original '76 Honda Accord, 3 Honda CRX's, and several Volvos.AND I reserved a smart on day ONE (3/19)! I really hate being catagorized as anything. Regards,Roger
  19. Great photos Duck, a big thanks. Can anyone tell me what the black 'bump' is in the center of the windshield header on the red cabrio???? Regards,Rogerps My new smart is currently taking an Atlantic cruise
  20. Smartster,Thanks for your extensive and imformative clarification on this.I think it really sucks that there are cars at the port and dealers that cannot be delivered, and I believe that we know now where the responsibility lies.My comments regarding bashing and rumors had to do solely with the comment that Mr. Penske is the reason why none of the cars can be sold in Canada. I think that was unfortunate and totally untrue. Let's mark that one down to frustration.I've learned a great deal about the smart from my 'northern neighbors' on this site due to their 4 year head start on us in the US. Hopefully the economics of scale created by opening the US market will benefit both sides of the border with more availibility and less expensive aftermarket and OEM parts. I enjoy a good debate and glad to have this mystery solved with a good natured no harm/no foul discussion. BTW, I hope MB Canada releases the cars soon - I'd like to get some owner feedback before I get mine (Jan '08, unless there is a US burp also)Just my $.0195 Damn, when is it going to stop falling. Oh well, happy shopping
  21. My point exactly. MB Canada apparently could not deliver on their own promise. So what does this have to do with smart USA? They certainly do not dictate to Daimler.
  22. Lorbeer,I agree that the Canadians waiting for their new smart have a right to be upset, I felt that way for the last four years when I could not purchase one in the US. (FORGET the grey cars), BUT who told them that they would be available in November? Was it MB Canada?, them shame on them if they could not deliver. I've never seen anything that indicated that smart international made that promise. Additionally, I don't believe that smart USA or Mr. Penske promised that delivery date for Canada, but thay are getting blamed for undeliverable cars sitting at the port. And I think that is wrong and unreasonable. The US, smart USA, and/or Mr. Penske are not at fault for the cars not being delivered by a date promised by an unknown somebody, but as the quotes indicate, they are directly being accused as responsible for the situation. Piss and moan at Daimler.Regarding "I'm only going by what I've read in this forum" - the longer I spend here the more I read seems to be rumor and speculation rather than fact.
  23. If smart international has decided that it is more effecient to certify both US and Canadian cars at the same time (probably a cost savings) what does that have to do with Mr. Penske, smart USA or the US in general? For several weeks you seem to have been placing blame on the US and US based business'. I for one am tired of this propaganda and US bashing. My $.0197
  24. It's the Washington Post (left wing BS rag)You expect accuracy or honesty?
  25. Definately yes! I prefer the 12 spoke, but would be interested in either set with winter tires.
