  1. Thank you all for your comments - I have taken each one into consideration. The dealership I took this to is new - my old one was really good but I am now in Langley and they are in North Van. I have had a non-dealer mechanic work on it once and didn't particularly like those results either. These are finicky little cars that need someone with understanding and knowing the little ins and outs. My boss is a car nut and is dying to take it apart. He'll buy it off me for a small amount. As much as I loved my little diesel, I think going to a newer model gas or *gasp* electric will be my next step. I will definitely be getting another smart one way or another! ;)I will be giving my new owner the club web so he can join and get any useful info. Thanks again for all your help - I'll post my new baby when I get it!
  2. Got the 3 bars of death to start with - happened twice in a 4 day period. Car started again ok when I turned it off but I knew it could possibly by trans/actuator issues or connection so took it to the dealer. Before they can even assess THAT issue, this is also what they found ...Replace High Pressure PumpParts $1,485.83Labour $230.00Replace EDG Control Unit due to oil contamination from HP PumpParts $1,996.00Labour $57.50Replace Engine wiring harness due to oil contamination from HP PumpParts $597.00Labour $287.50Second Oil Leak – Replace Oil Intake manifold gasket/sealParts $20.46Labour $230.00Third Oil Leak – Replace Air Intake Duct to Turbo including sealParts $70.81Labour $57.50That's over $5000 on a 107K Km car that has been serviced well And who knows what else has been happening. Just replaced the engine mounts 2 months ago. Sheesh.
  3. It's been a while since I have been online but I have had distressing news about my smart.Got the 3 bars of death to start with - happened twice in a 4 day period. Car started again ok when I turned it off but I knew it could possibly by trans/actuator issues or connection so took it to the dealer. Before they can even assess THAT issue, this is also what they found ...Replace High Pressure PumpParts $1,485.83 Labour $230.00Replace EDG Control Unit due to oil contamination from HP Pump Parts $1,996.00 Labour $57.50Replace Engine wiring harness due to oil contamination from HP Pump Parts $597.00 Labour $287.50Second Oil Leak – Replace Oil Intake manifold gasket/seal Parts $20.46 Labour $230.00Third Oil Leak – Replace Air Intake Duct to Turbo including seal Parts $70.81 Labour $57.50That's over $5000 on a 107K Km car that has been serviced well. I know there are a couple of places I could get a second opinion (Fast Eddy, Calipher) but I guess my question is do I even bother. Am I just asking for continued grief ... go with a newer version??Thoughts would be helpful to transition me to a painful decision
  4. This is good to know. I just got a call from MB - Hi pressure pump has failed, I have oil contamination everywhere - engine wiring EDG compromised, electrical connections, air intake valve - they quote $5100. And that isn't even the reason I brought in - originally the 3 bars of death. I guess the car is a right off. I may check Leo out when they email me the specifics.
  5. I have been reading with interest on this intercooler issue - I just had my almost 4yr 54,000 is kms in for a service and they detected an oil leak which they eventually attributed to "valve leak on intercooler" and will have to order 2 seals from Germany.I run biodiesel and wonder if this accerbates any seals or if this is just faulty valves/seals.
  6. Had the same thing happen to me ... got really loud - scared the "bleep" out of me! I figured it must have been a signal from a radio tower or something. I know a few stations broadcast near where I was driving.
  7. Actually, this is the local link http://www.wholeenergy.ca/index.html
  8. Yeah, I filled up last Saturday - had a bit of B20 left in the tank. All is good!
  9. Great thoughts and ideas, Steven!
  10. Sorry gang for the response delay. Have been in Detroit in amazingly cold weather .... holy Toledo! They had to close the schools for a couple of days due to the cold. You certainly didn't want to be out in it for any length of time! Compared to there it's like summer here :)We got the car back! The long and short of it was the Field Service Manager for MB declined to cover under warranty after my letter, however, the local dealership decided to cover it under warranty because they are nice guys! I guess they figured I had a point and since we had bought 2 for the company plus my own, it would be a gesture. The email from the FSM however, eluded to the fact he wasn't going to budge from his original assessment. I therefore, would have had to take it further which I did not want to do, but had enough backing that I think I would have prevailed. I just hope this doesn't happen again. Thanks for all your comments!
  11. Good idea ... I am having issues right now and any TSB's would be helpful.
  12. Try Steven at SmartieParts.com - he has lots of goodies for smarts
  13. Thanks everyone! I am not going to let this go, however, I have to get on them quickly as it is just sitting at MB awaiting my decision. Rob has been kind to try and find his work order ... I find it interesting that someone else has had the problem and it has been covered by warranty. I am off to battle again today!!
  14. Just got off the phone with the dealer ... the catagorize the glass roof as a windshield, therefore will not be covered. I would have to submit an Icky Bicky claim to get it fixed. I am having a hard time trying to rationalize a vehicle roof collapse, glass or not, not being covered. Not a good Friday.
  15. Considering I personally have purchased a smart and the company has purchased 2 with the option for more, I would think MB would be a little more on the ball with this. The vehicle in question has only been driven on campus ... plus the vehicle seems to be a lemon anyway. Drivers side window won't roll up, leaks in rear hatch, hatch button fell off ... I will see what my sales rep has to say on Monday
