  1. Lovingly used, already assembled and ready to go. Installs onto car in less than a minute, at four mounting points. I have the original $498.00 bill of sale, the owner's manual, (got to love Mercedes; something that installs with four bolts comes with a manual in nine languages), and the nifty installing tools. $225.00 takes it away. I live in the East end of the GTA, so a person-to-person sale would be best. Shipping this thing cross-country would be impractical. PM me for my e-mail and/or phone number.

  4. 207,971 on mine, purchased May 13, 2005.I commute from my home in Pickering to the dealership I work at in Mississauga (~ 160km round trip) twelve months of the year.This little car has been the most trouble-free vehicle I've ever owned. The entire warranty history is four work orders: a light bulb, an airbag wiring repair, a leaky turbo replacement, and a fuel pressure regulator.Since then, -I've replaced a leaking inlet tube once and cleaned out the EGR twice-replaced a leaking high-pressure fuel pump at 160K - the only "Big Buck" repair-tracked down and repaired corroded wiring to the Input Speed Sensor (notorious P0715) at 200K-replaced all three glow plugs during a lunch break at work a couple of days ago.There's been many oil changes and a few brake jobs, but that's maintenance.
  5. That was the fantastic thing about Gary and his company, 10X Tuning; when he sold me the Upsolute he promised, in writing, on the invoice, FREE reinstalls if any service rewrite eliminated it.He kept his word....another reason to miss him...
  6. Nor can I!!!Gary Wong installed the Upsolute 55hp remap in my smart in '05, when it was a month old.What a difference from stock. Power and throttle response felt dramatically better, shifts were crisper and smoother, and the speed limiter was gone (a necessity when driving on the 407 back then).A year later Mercedes installed the A/C efficiency patch in my ECU and it corrupted the remap, defaulting the software back to factory settings.Now that I had gotten used to the remap, the car felt so horrible it seemed almost undriveable. I called Gary the next afternoon. I had such a need to get it reinstalled as soon as possible, he met me in a Burger King parking lot in Markham that night so I wouldn't have to wait one more day.That's service! It's really a shame he's dropped out of sight.

On the other hand, I also bought a modified silver stick-on Jeezus fish for my car- it has tentacles all around it and represents our Lord and Creator the Flying Spaghetti Monster, surrounded by the glory of his noodley appendages. That just sits in the little drawer because I'm afraid that if I put it on my smart, the car will be vandalized. Believers are by nature more violent in their judgment than sheep are.

  10. I never liked the way my rear wiper would skip on the backglass, especially when salt and road dirt got into the spring point on the arm. It also looked skimpy and old fashioned to me.It was never worth the aggravation to do anything about it, but I found an answer by accident a while ago.I work for a Lincoln dealership, and while PDIing a 2009 Ford Escape, it struck me that its rear wiper looked about right. I borrowed it and tried it on my smart. It mounts perfectly and is a little longer from the pivot to the end of the blade, coming to ~1/2" from the bottom edge of the backglass on the bottom of its sweep, so there's a little more coverage of the glass.It doesn't interfere with the washer jet in any way, and it's a "smooth" design that appears to be a single unit at first glance (similar to the Nissan Micra unit pictured on the Evilution web page link above).Go to your nearest Ford dealership if you want.
  11. It is peculiar.I've been a mechanic for 27 years; I've seen and felt many winter tires on many cars. Presently, both Lincolns are running on Goodyear Ultragrips (my dealership gets bulk buy rates to meet the needs of our OPP Port Credit Division service contract). They're pretty good, but unavailable in smart sizes. The Focus is on Nokian Hakkapeliittas, which are amazing, but are also not smart-sized.When I considered the choices available for the smart, the Blizzaks were the winners. After three winters' driving, I tell you, the smart will go places in bad weather I would never dream of taking the big cars, particularily the RWD Mark VIII.I am not trying to prove you wrong, Duck, but merely agreeing with you. It is incredible that we have such different perceptions of a truly non-quantifiable experience.

  13. Look at any of those horrific pictures that show a wheel of the wrecked car. There's clearly a five bolt lug nut pattern; smart has always been three. In a couple of the photos you can see the VW emblem in the center of the wheel. Mike T is correct, it's a VW Crossfox, built and distributed in Brazil. In the header photograph part of the "CROSSF..." graphic is clearly legible on the car's rocker panel.
  14. This is my third winter on my LM-18s, and I've got nothing but great things to say about them to anyone who asks! Good traction, great braking, decent life, and most important to me, excellent ride quality for a snow tire. I find them such a great handling tire I dread putting the stinking, choppy, harsh, Continentals back on in the spring (Duck, I'm the opposite to you. I HATE everything about Continentals. Ford has started using them on a lot of the product lines, so I have a lot of experience driving different Contis on various vehicles and they all suck.) This will be their last winter; tread depth is down and I can feel traction is less than it used to be. By spring they'll be kaput. Three winters of 160km-a-day commuting on often dry 407 and 401 highways is pretty good to me. One small addendum: The smart has never been stuck once. As much as I want to brag and credit the Blizzaks, part of the reason has been having the ability to turn off the ESP/traction assist and getting a good spin on when I need it. I wouldn't drive in winter without SmartieParts's Traction Control disabler. Check it out: smartieparts
  15. Recently, while driving to work, I heard a loud "POP!" from the engine area and my smart lost power. It felt like limp mode, but was not. My Scangauge showed the turbo only making 6psi boost and any attempt at making more simply resulted in a very audible "tea kettle" type whistle. My first thought was a heart stopping, "...oh no...turbo...expensive...", because I'm long out of warranty. I stopped in at the MB dealership near my shop to see my buddy who works there. Now a background story: My friend is a MB mechanic, but not a trained smart specialist. I am a mechanic at a Ford/Lincoln dealership. I own a smart. His dad owns a Windstar, his brother a Ranger, and his sister-in-law drives a Focus. We look after each other. Before I finished describing my symptoms, he stopped me and said, "There's a hole worn in your EGR-to-intake manifold tube. Fuel line rubs through it. See it all the time. It's so common on the diesels we always keep those air tubes in stock." He went to his parts department, grabbed me a tube, and I replaced it during my lunch. A view of the hole: Moving the lines: Correct position, with the cloth braided line tie-strapped to the intercooler fan shroud, but the air tube not yet replaced: If my friend is right, maybe other smart owners should be pro-active and take a look at those lines and tubes and reposition them before they become a problem.   17. 124,000 on mine.Looking back, this has been the most trouble-free car I've ever owned.During the first 80,000, my warranty history consisted of only four repairs:12,000 kms - turbo seals blowing oil, turbo was replaced ( premature, perhaps, but who cares? It was free.)20,500 kms - my one and only headlamp bulb - replaced under warranty45,000 kms - airbag light/ wiring repair75,000 kms - no start/ defective fuel pressure regulator.The front brakes lasted until 108,000 kms. At that time, I did all four corners with EBC stuff from smartpartsDirect in the UK, even though the rears still had ~30% material left. Bought and installed a drain plug style oil pan from them at the same time.Last week, the car had no power at all and whistled like a tea kettle. The fuel line wore a hole through the "rubber" EGR-to-intake tube, allowing the boost to blow away. $36.oo part, fixed it myself in fifteen minutes.That was repair #5 in this vehicle's lifetime!!!

  19. The hump is just a visual signature. They're not only beautiful, timeless cars, but also typical raw, brutal American Muscle. Stand on the throttle and the 4.6L/32V will force you back into your seat and pull HARD! Here's a thread about mine: My smart is my commuting vehicle. When I get bored with its lack of speed and power and I need some tire-smoking, on-ramp-drifting, late-night-407-autobahning fun, I put some Rammstein in the CD player, switch off the traction control, and go out and abuse the Mark VIII for a while!
