  1. That's what this thread is about... I'll start. Tonight, whike parking at a comedy club, I saw a very random, RHD 2001 Peugeot 406 with a Y-Reg British plate on the front and a Florida plate in the back. I tried taking a picture, but no luck.
  2. Hello all.Long time.We finally have a Smart dealer in Puerto Rico, and as a result... I left a deposit Passion, black/black.Anyway, the reason I write is, I want to know what are the biggest wheels/tire combo that will fit without further modification. I am assuming it would be 16's or 17's, but I have been out of the community so long, that I cannot remember for the life of me.
  3. Oh of course, but it's not handling I'm interested in. For that I have my R32. I want to make the smart look a bit meaner, and I think an all black smart with tinted windows and bigger wheels (black of course) would do the trick.
  4. ^^^ A member of my family offered to buy me a higher end watch to replace my Seiko Kinetic (RIP) with. That being said, I'm going to stray from the usual Rolex suggestion, and I've decided to go with something different. What suggestions can be made? I'm leaning towards either a Breitling or a Patek Philippe. Anyone else?
  5. ^^:)Those of you that have known me know that I've been pondering for a few years the idea of immigrating to Canada. A chance to continue my restart in a country more aligned with my sentiments while remaining close enough to the US should I need to return to visit friends/family/etc. And not having to learn much of a new language ... what a dream come.Well, I just retook the immigration point test, and right now I stand at 71/100 points, with 67 being the minimum threshold for consideration. My previous attempts came in at anywhere from 57-68 pts, so this is a step in the right direction.I've decided to reapply in one-two years after completing my masters degree (+5 points), work experience (+1 point), improving my français (+2 points), and possibly a job offer (+10 points)To those americans that have pondered this (especially those that have succeeded), any suggestions, ideas, etc? At this point it isn't about getting out of George W. Bush-land. It's about trying for a better life in what I feel to be a more suitable country for me.
  6. Well, I decided to give them a call today regarding any updates on dealerships and deliveries outside of the lower 48... strictly for my curiosity. What the rep told me flabbergasted me."We don't want the cars sold in Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Alaska" WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?I am in disbelief and frankly quite angry I heard that. I was (and still am) considering putting forth another $99 for a new reservation to get my R32 a friend (actually, I want a daily commuter that's a little easier to live with since I've had the R32 for less than a year and it's on its first trip to the body shop due to daily life on these roads, anyway back on topic). I really do hope that is a single employees opinion as opposed to a corporate opinion, otherwise I may have to look at other brands for a daily driver.
  7. I lived in Florida when I paid my first $99, but moved to Puerto Rico several months in. After my US friends got their invitations, I started getting impatient and got sick of waiting, canceled my ressie, and bought a VW R32. Puerto Rico has always been included in the smart reservations Well, I regret that decision, so on yesterday's call, that's what I was told.
  8. homeland security is nothing more than the Bush administrations excuse for a workfare program... that needs to be removed and never mentioned again.
  9. They had refurbed ones a few months back on woot.com for about a grand, and had to resist every urge possible to whip out the Amex and find my XP install disc.
  10. Iain. I use mine while I'm on the Metro to get busy work (billing spreadsheets, contracts, etc) done. It's much easier to conceal and much easier/cheaper to replace than my HP lappy (so I have less worry of it getting ripped off).I also like the fact that if I'm wearing baggy cargo pants, I can stick in in a side pocket.
  11. I believe it's small, as in japan it competed against the Toyota BBx (scion xB)
  12. My brother has gotten a quote for his (eventual arrival) in Miami through Progressive. $2494/6 mos, full coverage. 27 yo single male, postgraduate degree, 670 beacon, owns house, $0 debt.I asked him to forward the rest of the quotes to me when they arrive.**edit**he just told me that he's not giving out his SSN for the quotes, so the rate should go down when he gives it.
  13. hmm.. those numbers seem slightly.. evil
  14. in all fairness, those 4 states, which are the 4 most populated US states, contain almost a third of the entire US population
  15. wow.. I just noticed this.. lolThanks from nearly a month later
  16. hmmm.. 3 servicing South Florida. Now to see what they want to export one, since my curiosity has been piqued.
  17. Since I'm living in Puerto Rico (US Carribean Territory... kinda like NWT, with a much larger population, sunny tropical weather year round, and a thriving arts scene), and it seems that we get everything 2 weeks - 2 years after the mainland, I've resigned myself to the fact that I probably won't be able to get a smart here until 2009ish (unless I import one from the mainland). What should I get? I'm presently driving a tank; an Acura MDX that is on loan from a cousin who's spending a year in Europe; and I'm not thrilled at spending $50-60 to fill the tank (regular unleaded is USD$0.647/liter here). We have a 96 Jetta in the driveway, but it's not insured, and I can't wait till November when its owner returns and insures it. I've broken it down to several cars, each with pros and cons. Toyota Yaris Pro: Reliable, economic, easy to park Con: Drives like a pig, too common on these roads, no personality, UGLY Scion xD Pro: Should be Reliable, economic, easy to park, should have a personality, if the xA is any indication- it should be fun to drive as well Con: new model (dealer markups.. ugh) Mitsubishi Lancer Pro: Look at it! It's attractive, should be reliable, relatively economic, fun to drive, amazing value Con: common on these roads, frequently stolen here Hyundai Brio (Accent) Hatch Pro: Reliable, nice ass, easy to park, somewhat economic Con: Drives like a pig, face like a pig, too common on these roads Nissan Versa Pro: it could be reliable, has a huge personality, amazing value, economic, fun to drive Con: The hatch is ugly as sin, the sedan looks like a first gen Prius Other things to note, we do not have Saturn here, so I can't get an Astra (phooey!) and our roads are shot to hell. Think of detroit... but worse.
  18. So the end of this story. There's still been no word on Smart deliveries here, so I cancelled my order. On top of this, the Jetta ended up having problems with the clutch. Apparently it was damaged during the shipping, but since the damage took so long to surface, the shipping insurance basically told me to piss off. So I did what any sane person whose girlfriends dad owns a car dealership would do- I sold the car for spares and with that money (and some other money I put aside + money from the sale of two of my guitars + the money I saved by not buying the POS Wagoneer and inheriting an late model 4Runner + a small personal loan) bought a new VW R32 I have this for the daily commute and weekend surf/dive trips, and the 4Runner for the mountains.
  19. Mike, our old S-Class arrived through North Carolina (not sure where, but I specifically remember NC). Also, MB has some business in Port of Mobile... probably just receiving for the Tuscaloosa plant, but still. Last, call me regional, but I feel that San Juan, Ponce (PR), and Honolulu are also worth checking out, since the only way cars are arriving there is via boat
  20. PR/USVI would fall under South Atlantic Guam and the countless other Pacific territories would be under Pacific.
  21. Every christmas, I reformat and bring new life to my PC's. Here's the new desktop
  22. I did, but the change hasn't reflected on my end Plus, I also PM'd Robert the list of other territories and geographically where I feel they would best be served on the forums
  23. The ForFour was sold in Mexico... perhaps you saw a tourist passing through That's how I saw a Roadster in Florida- it had Distrito Federal Plates.
  24. I'm wondering where the US territories/colonies fall under in the subsections.
  25. this thread dragged me out of my holiday drinking ;)I'm extremely looking forward to seeing a GT-R on the roads and get the chance to test drive one.
