  1. I would sure be interested in picking up a set of those fire engine red panels when they become available....I'll bet that's going to be the 'red' that a lot of folks wishes they could have had on their '08 models. My first color choice was red/black until I saw how orange-ish the 2008 offering was going to be. Just not my idea of 'red'.Thanks for the info!Happy motoring!Wayneo

Recently I heard from a dealer here in the USA that for 2009 they will have fire engine red and metalic orangeish-bronze as color choices for the body panels.I don't know if this is common knowledge, or good or bad info but I thought I'd share it.

  2. Hi all,Something interesting has started happening with my new '08 fortwo.Four times in the past week, my factory alarm has started blaring out. Two of those instances were when it was in my garage, and my keys were on the countertop and not in my pocket where a button would get inadvertently pressed. But this isn't the "horn blaring/panic button" noise. It's a shrill whistling alarm sound accompanied by flashing lights and all that. There's nothing in the car that would be moving. The windows are rolled up. The parking brake is set.To say this is puzzling and annoying is an understatement. I've made no modifications to my smart. All I've done is drive it, and I've been very satisfied so far.I've also noticed an interesting "re-arming" and locking of the doors after about a minute if I'm standing outside of the vehicle, but that has done that since I took delivery of the car almost 3 months ago.Anyone else having false alarms or issues with the alarms? Is there a way I can temporarily disable the thing, so I can sleep without it false alarming on me again?I appreciate any help or advice from anyone. Thanks!Wayne

  3. Hi all,Just wondering if the driver of a yellow cabrio in the Hickory, NC-area was here on CsC. I was driving south of Hickory on US321 when I saw the yellow cab merging into traffic as I was ramping off in my blue/blk coupe. We exchanged waves and smiles and off we both went. This was my first time running across another area fortwo and just wanted to say 'hi' again and see if you might be a CsC associate. I've heard of another blue one, a red, and a white one in the Hickory area, as well as an older green fortwo. This past month and a half has been the most fun I've had with a car in years. I find myself chatting up about this car with everyone. It's fun to feel like some 'ambassador from smartville'. :-)Happy motoring, y'all!!wayneo

  4. Hey Regina,Cool story!!! I've been enjoying my lil' fortwo for the past few weeks too. All kinds of gawks, stares, pointing...it's so much fun!!!! :D Cheers to ya!! Gotta go!! I'm riding up to a small classic car show and driving by a few times to attract a little more attention! Woohoo!!!!Hope you have a good weekend!!Wayne from N.C.

Yesterday, I was invited to a lunch with my bosses to celebrate another great revenue collecting year. As I have stated in the past, I work in Midtown Manhattan between Park & Madison on 55th St. As we left the building and approached the sidewalk, low and behold I got the shock of a life time. So much so, that I squeeled uncontrollably "Oh My God, That's My Car!" Sitting on the sidewalk in front of the MB Park Ave's bay doors and facing my little lunch party was a blue & silver cabrio. I was floored!!! Some of you may remember that I work right next door to Mercedes and across the street is the Ferrari / Masserati showroom. Those two shops are in a constant pissing contest to show off what luxury cars they have in their stable. I have never been impressed with any of the cars they showcased (from Maybachs to whatever Ferrari & Maserati sell). Anyway, I have stated on this forum that it would be nice if MB Park Ave would showcase a smart. Last year, I even asked the Sales Mgr if they plan on showcasing some and like a snob he said, "Not at all!"Well hell must have frozen over because that beauty was sitting outside in plain site in front of everyone. In fact, you had to walk around it to get by. Funny, I have dreamed about driving my smart up on the side walk and taking a pix of it in front of my office because we have a nice outdoor atrium with trees and flowers. Hell, if I'm being honest, I have dreamed of driving my smart past the double glass doors and taking a pix of my smartie in our law firm. Grounds for dismissal, probably - fun as hell, definitely!Anyway, I told them all about my car and they were all very much impressed. When we returned to the office, the smart was gone which dashed my hopes. It was probably being delivered or something. But when we walked past and my lunch party stopped to chat up other group of co-workers, I looked around and then inside the MB showroom and there next to some unGodly SUV was the blue/silver cabrio. YIPPEE!!!! All is now well in the world.Well, I was so impressed by this wonderful event but it got me to thinking. Why would MB Park Ave change their mind so suddenly? So I was relaying this cute story to some of my commuter buddies this morning and one of them said, "Well of course they put a smart in the showroom with the economy the way it is!" What a light bulb moment. Times are definitely changing. Especially now with a smart on Park Ave for all to see. In some aspects it's changing for the better.Oh happy day,Regina:lol:

  5. Hi all,Just got back a few hours ago from smart center in South Charlotte, NC, where I spent my lunchtime taking delivery of my fortwo. I dealt mainly with Matteo, the brand manager there at 'sc/sc', and am pleased to report an excellent sales experience! :thumbsup_still: My blue fortwo was queued up right by the main doors of the showroom, just waiting for me to show up and drive 'er right out of there! Matteo and the staff were all very friendly and helpful getting my info all assembled and the deal was all taken care of with no surprises. We were there around 90 minutes altogther and enjoyed speaking with some other customers that were picking up their car, as well as some potential customers just checking out the new cars.My car was gleaming from front to back, and Matteo walked me through all the basics, which I had a jump start on, thanks to reading about all the experiences of my CsC amigos (as well as that Owner's Manual download I found a few weeks back). Surprisingly, Matteo also mentioned that I'm probably the first customer from my town to have a smart, because he hadn't delivered any fortwos to anyone from Hickory, NC! That was a hoot to hear, as I figured I might be an 'early adopter', but I never thought I might possibly be my town's 'first fortwo'!After signing my autograph with the finance manager several times, and dropping my check on the desk, my fortwo was finally in my possession!! :D Matteo was kind enough to man my camera for me as I wheeled 'er out the showroom doors!Out on the road and up to speed, I was amused at the initial crosswind 'dance' that I had read about here on CsC. I'm going to need several days to acclimate to pedal position/shift points/power dropoffs when shifting. Lots of peculiar looks in my direction...but I guess I'll need to get used to that. B) When we went to eat this evening, a number of the restaurant servers were eyeballing that strange sight in the parking lot, and even a couple customers came in my direction and said, "I like that car!"We're home for the evening now, my fortwo and me, and I'll probably be reading my owner's manual this evening. Day #1 has really been something else! I hope in a year or two I can still say "This was a very smart decision!"Thanks and quick shout-outs to Regina, Commander Cody, Ohiosmart, aphoenix, and everyone else here on CsC that have made this past year a really great journey! Y'all rock! adios for now,Wayneaka wayneo66

  6. Congratulations Commander! I'm very happy for your new delivery, and I'm also very happy that I'm not far behind you! I got my first phone call from the dealer on Friday, 2/29, so Happy Freakin' Leap Day 2008 to me! :D My dealer's 'Smart brand manager' told me that my passion coupe is tenatively arriving in mid-March, and I am like a bottle rocket with a fresh-lit fuse. I can't wait to get the official word now to "Come On Down!" (Apologies to Bob Barker/Drew Carey... ;) So from one Carolinian to another, Congratulations Commander Cody! The only thing that could make me any happier is to have my own fortwo, and it's literally just around the corner now!Happy motoring!wayneo66

  7. :manygrins2: What a difference a few days makes!! I finally got the word from my dealer!!! Got home and there was a message on my machine from my dealer, saying that my fortwo should be delivered around mid-March, and maybe before then, depending upon when the truck gets it there. I don't have a firm, set date just yet. All this call was for was to double-check me on whether I was still in the market for my car. As soon as more info comes my way, I'll post more.Quick note to Ohiosmart: I'm an '1182' reservation if you wish to update your timetable, which I have viewed many times with great anticipation. Thank you, my friend! So, maybe now I can get through the purchase process reasonably unscathed, thanks to reading about many others' experiences here on CsC. Thanks to everyone for sharing your info. :thanx: --wayneo66

  8. Congratulations and many happy miles are wished your way, miataman! I'm hoping for some delivery news soon...but impatience is really creeping in on me. I was intrigued by your statement that your dealer just started delivering this week. I feel like that's what the Charlotte, NC dealer is doing, but I've read that they have already delivered a number of cars...just not mine. <_< Your fortwo looks close to mine, as I also chose blue/black, but with the beige interior.Oh well, happy motoring! :D wayneo66

Just took Delivery of my Passion Cabrio today in Atlanta at Smart Center Buckhead... They just started delivering this week.... Emily did an excellent job and i am so excited .... even my Dog like the ride :P

  9. Ditto for me, as well. I am growing weary of the waiting game. This Thursday, 2/28, will make 11 months since I placed my reservation, and will also mark 4 months since finalizing my order. I contacted my dealer, as well as smartusa, and can get very little as far as a current status report on my car. All smartusa will say is that my car will be routed to my dealer, who will then contact me when my car is available. All my dealer says is "manufacturer only releases a few names per month, and maybe [my] name will be on the March list".I know I'm somewhere within the first 4000-5000 reservations, and the only reason I know that is from reading it here on CsC. And many thanks to Ohiosmart for at least giving me some idea of an estimated timeframe, because I'm not hearing anything from my dealer. I'm not a very happy camper right now. <_< wayneo66

Even if this 10 month wait comment is true. Thats certainly alot sooner than the year plus time the majority are having to wait. Right now its looking more like 16 plus months from the time I made my $99.00 reservation as well as others still waiting. Wouldnt be surprised if its 18-24 months total time from reservation to drive off.

  10. That's great news, Commander! I keep watching for good news to come your way, because it means I'm not terribly far behind you, and eventually, I'll hear this same good news from my dealer! :D Continued good luck to ya!wayneo66

 Hold on now. Just got a phone call from Jacksonville that my car is in, dry and being pampered. They will be back in touch to finalize things. This is gooood news! :)

  11. Hey there Regina,

I just did the 'search by size' thing on their page, rather than 'search by vehicle'. I filled in the sizes that the original poster mentioned and it pulled up the ContiProContacts, the Pirellis, and I think there was an additional Continental branded all season tire with a slightly different tread pattern and slightly higher price per tire.

Hope the winds have calmed up in your area. We had some wind trouble too, as the top of a tree got blown out and fell very close to our house. No damage, but it was close and could have been worse.

    See ya, :D

Hi Wayne, I tried the website too but I only found one search result for my cabrio which is noted below. Why can't I get the winter tires too? Is it because I have a cabrio? Thanks, Regina

    Estimated Shipping Costs for:

    (2) 155/60TR15 Continental ContiProContact

    Price: $120.00 for 2

    (2) 175/55TR15 Continental ContiProContact

    Price: $154.00 for 2

  12. I checked on the website for TireRack.com and they show a Continental ContiProContact 'grand touring all-season' tire in both sizes. Fronts are US$60 each and rears are US$77 each. They also have a winter/snow tie by Pirelli in the size on the back of your car. Pirellis are 91 dollars.

My car is fitted with 155/60/R15 tires in the front and 175/55/R15 Tires on the back. What make of tires do you get in this size? and what make of tire do you recommend?pwven

  13. I appreciate the heads up. I knew nothing of the cruise control site until now, but I've at least gone and registered there, and will return to the site this week to read the forums in more detail.I don't have my fortwo yet, but if I get mine in a few weeks or so, and if I can't live without cruise control, I will definitely keep this product forefront in my mind. Thanks, Harleyduo! :D

Anybody that has already picked up their smart car or has one on order to be picked up later, will eventually wish it had a cruise control option.Fortunately, we have a company right here in North America (the United States and Canada venture) that is working to develop a top of the line unit specifically for the smart car. However, unfortunately, most of us have been very complacent about letting these people know how likely we are to purchase one. They have created a tremendously informational site at "www.smartcarcruisecontrol.com" to keep perspective purchasers informed and answer any and all questions and concerns. I've been astonished that almost NOBODY from this site or any other smart car chat forum have logged in to let the leaders of this adventure know that you we are eagerly awaiting to buy their product. Although I am not connected with the project in any way, other than being a fervent supporter of anybody that is trying to bring out an affordable, quality product for our smart cars. I am becoming almost embarrassed that I have been almost the only person making any posts there and it's giving the impression that there is little support for such a product or that nobody is concerned whether the product comes out or not. In my gut, I KNOW this is NOT true, but unless people start actually stating that they are eager to take a look at the product and they want a quality cruise control option, the wrong message is being sent by everybody just sitting back and not making their wishes known. Please consider logging in and at least leaving a message on the likelihood that you will want one of their cruise controls at some point in the future. I have never seen a company that is more open and more honest in their keeping the customer informed. All of US and and how WE support the products for smart cars are going to determine how many entrepreneurs are willing to invest in making them available to us. Please take action NOW and keep worthy projects like this alive.

  14. Hey Regina,Oh man, am I going to be torn now. I dig your plate frame tremendously, and I wouldn't mind sporting one of those myself. But, I've got one that says "My other car is a Hot Wheels", and I hope to affix that one to my smartie. :D (From what I hear, my nearest dealer should finally be open for business next week. Construction/renovation had a couple 'snow days' to endure.)Many congratulations on your delivery, at last! I'm looking forward to the same view as you, with the blue/black configuration. Thanks for the pix!Enjoy the ride!See ya,Wayne in N.C.

Hey you bums!!! No comments other than one (from Uncle Glenn) about my personal license plate and holder??? Don't ya see the cute little cabrio in the website logo at the top of the plate frame?? I have been burning to show my little show of support for the club and I gets nadda. Where's the justice??? :(Dang...:) I still love ya though!!

  15. Hi Commander Cody,

Holy cow...I just Googled that US 129...that is a wicked looking stretch of road! hahahaha

Good luck this week, if you're heading Jacksonville-way. I would say 'enjoy the drive' but of course you'll be doing that anyway...you're picking up your fortwo! :speak_cool:

    Best wishes, fellow Carolinian!

:D Feb. is going to be my month. This AM got an e-mail from my man at smartcenterjacksonville (FL) saying that they are "expecting to open by Tuesday (5th) when we get our occupancy license. There is a chance that it will be sooner and I will be in touch with everyone as that time draws near. We are getting the cars in possibly this weekend and will have 3 cars in the showroom and 2 demos for test drives. If you have any questions......"

We've got two sets of reservations at a motel near this dealership so when we get the word we're I-95 southward bound. Heading back I sure hope the wee one can keep up its speed on the 95 racetrack. Of course I could use the old coastal roads to head back north but it would be a year before I arrived back in Chas. SC. And as soon as I get here it's off to the mtns. in WNC. I still want to take it to the Tail of the Dragon but will have to wait for warmer weather.

FYI: Tail of the Dragon is US129 Deals Gap, NC - 318 curves within 11 miles :o

    "Only the Strong Survive"

  16. I figure the dealer in Charlotte, North Carolina is delivering cars, as well. On their website Smart Center South Charlotte has a gallery of photos dated 1/23/08 of what I presume is their first truckload of about 8 different fortwos. I was excited to see this, as I had hoped things would be rolling along as discussed, and they are. I just didn't see any blue/black Passion Coupes on the truck, so I'm still hoping and waiting like so many others.
