  6. Yes, the transaxle has oil in it, but the bell houing (with clutch inside) does not.
  7. $19,500 without options or taxes, new.
  8. It would be cool to go together....but I'll understand if you want to go from Swartz Bay We could eat in the pub or whatever that place is by the marina...or picnic lunch on Mount Maxwell.... Hmmm Cal and Muriel, what say you?
  9. Elaine, was that in the mail, or an email? I'll be there!
  10. I assume Kermie is green.... Congratulations!
  11. Ah, excellent. I had wondered if 10,000 was a cap of sorts...evidently not! With 1300 km to go, I guess another 300 km or so may be on the cards for me. If I hadn't fallen so hard off the wagon yesterday (up to 140 km/h), I might have got 10.5K. Let this be a new competition: who can get the furtherst between required services!
  12. Nah, you're probably spot-on. I got the same F.O.A.D. letter as you last week. I have added it to my BC Ferries Archive of Shame
  13. My car has given me 10,000 km between A and B. About 1300 km to go to B....
  14. I hope some of that reknowned smart club hospitality will be offered to Keith during his travels....in each Province.
  15. But I was looking at aircraft more than cars. Did you see any other smarts, Sean?
  16. I used A/C on the way home from the Comox Air Show today. It was 30-32 degrees outside and at idle on double LED setting, the centre vent was putting out something like 28 degree air. There was LOTS of idling due to the massive traffic jams going in and out of the area. Once up to speed on the freeway, it was blowing 13-14 degrees, just right. I can't wait for a reflash.....
  17. I hate to do this, but: The cabriolet is wasteful too It loses a couple of L/100 km when driving on the highway with the top down, plus that hood mechanism is complex and involved many additional industrial processes. I think the best advice is to not micro-analyse these things; it can drive a person batty
  18. Sean and I drove up to the Comox Airshow in the smart with the top down, at 120-140 km/h.....huge traffic jams getting in and out, then drove back at 120-140 with the top up and A/C on. 4.2 L/100 km. Oh well.....
  19. Try emailing FlushBush (Peter) and ronj (Ron); they're both in Ottawa and we had a small four person mini-smart meeting in early March this year! I'm sure they'd be interested....
  20. You will see me there in my smart with my son Sean!
  21. Sounds like one of those psychoactive drugs from the '60s.... I imagine that it could be quite distracting though.
  22. On getting your overall fuel consumption down to 3.8 L/100 km form 3.9!
  23. Isn't there an "e" on the end of that?
  24. The forfour should have looked something like that....
  25. Don't worry about horsepower. That won't break a gearbox or burn out a clutch. Torque is what to be concerned about with both a clutch and a gearbox/transaxle. There is a clutch design standard of 110 Nm (i.e. clamping force) in the present cars, and yet the roadster in Brabus form uses the same transaxle and it dumps 130 Nm into the input shaft. Therefore, in all likelihood, the roadster Brabus has a clutch with stiffer pressure plate springs. Are the internals of the transaxle strengthened for the roadster Brabus? It seems unlikely, but the parts manual would tell the tale. So I would speculate that the transaxle can probably handle 130 Nm + a typical engineering contingency of say 10-15%. The bottom line is though, the closer to the design load the car is, the shorter the service life will be.
