  1. For the past couple of mornings my car can only get up to 3,000 RPM even with the peddel to the floor. It only seems to hapen first thing in the morning when the temperature is neering frezzing. After about 10 minutes and after I turn off and turn back on the car then its back to normal. Any idea what might be the problem, and why would does it appear to be temperature dependant? Thanks. Calvin
  2. Took the car for a spin today and had to turn back after five minutes, according to the Scanguage the car temp was up to 120C!!! Yikes!! and no heat in the cabin. It was -5 today so any slush on the windshield would freeze up instantly. Not a fun ride home, motor overheating and windshield frozen. Any idea what is going on here? It’s a 2006 - 450.
  3. Topped up the colant level (it was quite low) and took it for a short ride (10Km), I have heat again and the temp seemes to have remained stable. The collant level appears to have droped a bit when I got back (Maybe there was air in the lines). But where did the coolant go in the first palce?
  4. I have been reading on the forum of people who have changed the usless dimmer switch to activate fog lights. What I cannot figure out is that the dimmer swith is a momentary switch (it is only on when you are pushing the button) so how do they control the fog lights and get them to stay on like a typical toggle switch? Thanks for your help.Calvin
  5. Maybe I should be more specific, I am not actualy hooking up the fog lights, I just wanted to use the dimmer switch to activate an emegency light that I wired onto my windshield behind the rearview mirror. I think the easy thing to do is to change out the whole switch.
  6. The switch consists of a small circuit board with two connector pins and a tiny push button switch. So what you are telling me is there is a latching relay somewhere that keeps the state of the switch and the momentary switch simply activates the relay. Where is this relay located?
  7. Check out fast Eddy. Thats where I got my tires, and the price was verry resonable.
  8. I think that those who are getting both cruise and a remap should count as two towards Eddie's 20.(I am very interested and don’t what this opportunity to pass by due to a lack of participation.)
  9. Count me in for a cruise installation down in toronto. I have to do some more research to learn about this remap beffor I commit to it. Thanks, Calvin
  10. The program works great. My wife and I took a trip form Sudbury to New Yrok City over the summer and were able to enjoy the benifits of half price parking. To start, parking in the Big Apple is expensive!!, about $50 per day. All you have to do is fill out an application form and then in a few days you will recive a "Smart Park" parking card in the mail. The card costs nothing and saved me about $100. The only probelm I had was that the parking attendants did not seem to be familliar with the card and it took some time for them to apply the discout when it was time to pay. Other than that, I caint complain.
  11. I had the same problem just a few weeks ago. A rattle at low speeds comming from the front end. They told me it the barkes were delaminating and I had to chage the lower ball joints. I got both problems fixed and the noise is now gone and since you just got you ball joints replaced my money is on the brake pads.
  12. Why would someone want access to your fuel tank so bad? I hope nothing was put into your tank... unless of course it was a fill up of diesel.
  13. If you have the $$$, a nice set of rims would give your car a real good wow factor!!
  14. While traveling in the rain a frend of mine got an error code and check engine light. The scan gauge says P0702. Transmition control electrical system. He gets the three bars and the engine goes limp. Any sugjuestions?
  15. Battery box is bone dry. No signes of moisture. I'm thinking it might be the actuater sensor. Where is the sensor located on the car?
  16. I just recently upgraded my speakers (450, probably different form a 451) I used as a guide to help me out. It was not really that bad to do as long as you have the right tools. I would suggest you take allot of pictures as you are doing it, that way if you have a problem during the re-assembling process you can refer to them. While I had the dash apart I took the opportunity to install an extra 12Volt auxiliary plug. The only problem I had was, when I went to start the car after all was finished my check engine light was on!! I hurried up and bought a scan gauge but by the time I got it (about 3 days later) the check engine light went off and there were no codes. I figure it was because I turned the car on while the speedometer was unplugged to test the speakers. So I would suggest not to start the car until you have re-assembled the car. The original speakers are only 4 inches in diameter, I changed then to 6.5 inch pioneers. The sound is much better.
  17. Don't even bother to play the game if you are canadian. It took me 1/2hour to win, only to find out that it is only for Amercan residents.
  18. Wow great mod. I want one. How much for one of those?
  19. Did you try pouring some hot water on your brakes. I have noticed in the past that my brakes freeze and it takes some rocking back and fourth to get them un-stuck. I have never gotten to the point that you are at though. The hot water is only a sugestion of what I would do if I was in your shoes.
  20. A local college in the Sudbury area got a 451 as a mascot and made a cute little commercial with it. Thought the rest of the community would find it as good as I did.
  21. I had the same problem with my car about two weeks ago. The ESC and ABS lights came on solid and I had no more brake lights. It was the first really cold day in a while -23C, and about half-way through the day the lights went off again. Have not has the issue since. I looked through the message boards and found a few helpful threads. I also stopped by the dealership to ask about the issue, he said that it could be an ice buildup that was hitting a sensor. They did not think it was something major since the light went off again. I have my nest “A” service in 1000Km, so I will have them check it again then.
  22. I am looking for some winter driving tips. I’ve had my Smart for about 5 months now and tonight was the first real test of winter driving. I was very surprised to see how poorly it performed. Pulling out of my driveway I did a 360 (That’s right I was facing the same direction again). It seemed like at every stop I was sliding into the intersection. I could feel the ABS system working. Am I supposed to let off the brake when I feel that or push harder? And when it was time to take off again, the tires would spin, I would go nowhere and the Stability control light would go on. I almost did not make it up a hill. It wasn’t even much of a hill, more like a small slope. I have installed a new set of Conti winter tires form Flying Tiger but I still don’t seem to have any grip. Do you suggest I travel with sand bags in the trunk for added weight? I love my Smart and want to make sure it will handle the winter ok.
  23. First of all, I do drive a 450 (2006 Pulse) and I did not see any markings on the tire saying that they were directional. Perhaps my problem is that I am forcing the car too much. I must say that in the summer I drive it pretty hard. Thanks for all the tips; I will try some on may way to work today. I think what I really need to do is find an empty parking lot and practice some starts and stops. I used to drive a 1998 Dodge Neon fully automatic and never had to worry about shifting at the right time. Is there any advantage to letting it rev higher or should I shift sooner in slippery weather. Right now I shift at about 3000RPM. Also when the roads are slippery should I down shift or simply use the brake to slow down? Again thanks for all the help.
  24. I installed them about three weeks ago (brand new), Ive put maybe 2000km on them.
  25. I drive standard most of the time. I only put it in automatic if I'm trying to do something else at the same time and need the extras hand.
