  1. Here's my super hot desktop. Try to contain your jealousy towards my creative genius.
  2. Hi there and welcome to the forum.I've owned my smart for about 18 months now so there's definitely people here who have more experience with the car than I do but I'll try to relate my experiences. My Grandstyle is my only vehicle and it never given me any serious problems. I bent a rim driving into Winnipeg from Ottawa last winter but that was after taking a gigantic (about 8 inches deep) pothole at a speed much faster than I should have. That's the extend of issues I've had with the car so it's been a decidedly positive experience for me. There's a smart roadside assistance hotline but I'm not really sure on all the details of how it works as I've never had to use it.My smart spent last winter in Winnipeg so I can say with total confidence that is capable of handling any inclement weather you might expect. It handled well on icy and slushy roads alike and never gave me a problem starting up even on days as cold as -45C. It comes with a block heater as standard equipment so that's a definite added convenience.Anything else, just ask :)Jason
  3. Hi guysAs mentioned in an earlier thread, I just moved to Halifax from Ottawa. In Ottawa, I was a fervent supporter of Sunoco Diesel Gold. However, my research on their website looking for a station has led me to believe these only exist in Ontario. So, my smart brethren, I pose this question to you: What fuel do you swear by?Jason
  4. I agree. Moving it over http://www.clubsmartcar.com/index.php?showtopic=11560
  5. I saw a set on display for sale at the Halifax dealership last time I was there. The price eludes me at the moment but I think $600 was in the neighbourhood.
  6. Well, since no one seems to be jumping at it right away I'd like to offer my name for consideration. This community has given me quite a bit and I'd like to try to return something to the great group of people who have transitioned me from a smart neophyte to a dedicated enthusiast. One caveat, I have to "travel" (read: go on a stinky boat full of seamen) quite a bit for work so my presence may be somewhat interrupted.--Jason
  7. In a similar vein, we made up a short smart rally video for my aircrew course in Winnipeg. If you're interested, you can find it here: http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=582...45&hl=en-CA It's about 40 seconds in if you don't feel like sitting through everything else
  8. When I was in Winnipeg, I was quite happy with the Buggy Bath just off Portage Ave (over by the base, I can't remember the name of the street). You could normally do a thorough wash of the entire smart for under $5.
  9. It works on my 2006 Grandstyle. It was the first thing I did (I hate DRL)
  10. My concern would that this would be a signal for an underlying issue of being overly safety obsessed. The sort of person that buys anti-bacterial everything and will pay a price premium to fly on an airline with a better safety record. If that doesn't bother you then I'm sure you could always take the train or something. I know it would drive me crazy and eventually break up the relationship anyway.
  11. When I was posted from Ottawa to Halifax, I was reimbursed at a rate of 50 cents per kilometre for the drive out. I probably spent about $75 in fuel but received a nice cheque for $688 today.

  13. I guess the thrust of the article is that they re-created some legends of the game for their impending football release including the infamous OJ Simpson. Anyway, the game also comes with some pre-fab fantasy teams, including one called the assassins. By a stroke of luck, or misfortune, OJ's legendary character has been drafted by this team and the clip shows various pieces of footage of OJ Simpson in action for the "Assassins". What really cinches the entire affair is after scoring a touchdown, there's a giant red-cloaked figure above the scoreboard who does an animatronic stabbing motion in celebration. Very inappropriate but very hilarious.
  14. I've always liked the authentic Tags. They have a timeless class to them
  15. This is my first car. Okay, not that exciting I admit. hehe
  16. Reading the comments on that site sparked up something that's been a bit of a mystery to me regarding public reception of the smart. So many people comment that it's ugly or doesn't look like a new car; the part I fail to grasp is what sort of standard pleases these people? Are they fully content with the standard Camry sedan styling and feel car makers should never ever deviate from that script? I find 99% of cars released are so ridiculously boring that I can't imagine why anyone would buy one. I can't stand the way the PT Cruiser looks but at least it's somewhat original compared to the deluge of cookie cutter shapes that spew out of auto plants. Thanks for the link. The reviewer pretty much echoed my exact sentiments towards the car--both shortcomings and virtues.
  17. +1 Pro patria:)
  18. Absolutely agree with you there. I heard an analogy that I found most apt: buying carbon offsets is akin to donating money to the SPCA so you can continue beating your dog.
  19. Not to sound like a recruiting ad but have you considered a career in the military? There's dozens and dozens of different trades and I'm certain you'd be able to find something that interests you. The pay isn't great for the first year but it goes up quickly such that by the time you hit your 4th year in you'll easily be making over $50,000/yr. Anyway, I can't imagine doing anything else so I thought I'd spread the joy.Whatever you decide, best of luck in your job hunt
  20. I'm pimping dual 20" widescreens at the moment thanks to a stroke of luck. I have one of them vertically orientated so no wallpaper quite looks right on it. This is what I have on the regular, horizontally orientated screen. (I just stretch it out to the proper aspect ratio)
  21. Hey gang, I just moved to Halifax from Ottawa (with a brief stint in Winnipeg in between) so I thought I'd take the opportunity to say hello. I must say I've been pleasantly surprised at the number of smarts I've seen on the roads here, by far more than anywhere else in Canada that I've been.Anyway, I drive a Grandstyle coupe so if you see me around, feel free to say hi Very HappyCheers,Jason
  22. I'm not posting this to be inflammatory or disrespectful in any way, but rather to give you insight into the mind set of someone who hasn't followed the whole elections system and hasn't bothered to vote.Honestly, I don't really see the relevance to any of it. I think this is a wonderful community and I greatly appreciate the resources provided, but I really can't fathom how it would change significantly based on the actions of one candidate compared to another. I'm sure the vast majority, like myself, only pay attention to the forum side of things and how complicated is it to run a phpBB forum? It's not like there's powers of taxation or foreign affairs at stake here. Maybe I'm seeing this all wrong and it is very relevant but I don't think I'm the only own who is under this haze of uninformed ignorance.I hope this is helpful to anybody who is wondering about poor voter turnout and general apathy to the electoral process. I realise I make no recommendations but I wanted to relate how I see things and I doubt very much that I'm alone.Jason
  23. I consider myself somewhat of a libertarian and as such, I've always had a tough time identifying with any political cause. Every political party always seems to come up with one policy that just makes them unelectable for me. So, I guess I'd consider myself a political exile, having no home in any of the parties or regions of the political spectrum.I do love my car though
