  1. Have you tried Folex? It is an amazing carpet and upholstery cleaner. It is a non ionic surfactant, so the cleaned spot is not sticky afterwards. I cleaned a serious green Katydid emission from the headliner on my Cabrio. After a year of dreading cleaning the green spot now turned brown and ugly, I sprayed the headliner, blotting it with a clean terry cloth towel, repeating several times and the headliner looks like new. Absolutely amazing. A couple of ladies with their new to them smart were at the dragon. They were concerned about how to get the ugly residue from a bumper sticker off the rear bumper. A little Folex and a microfiber cloth took it right off the white plastic panel with little effort and the bumper was as good as new. It also cleans oxidation off of rubber trim. Folex can also be used in a steam cleaner. For the seats, I would spray lightly so the cushions do not get saturated. Then blot with a clean cloth. Several applications may be required. The clean dry cloth will absorb the stains out of the upholstery fabric from above without soaking the cushions. Simply amazing. No, I have no connection with the company. I've just been impressed with the quality of performance.
  2. The really intriguing detail of Eco-motors international is the star performer leading the charge! He worked on the vw boxer engine, designed the vw Jetta clean turbodiesel engine, and now has the vision of a compact valveless engine, with fewer parts, completely machinable using existing production technology. The turbo/supercharger/ generator will be the heart of the machine as it will provide initial preheat without glow-plugs, for instantaneous low emissions start up, and move the charge through the engine as well as scavenge emissions from the cylinder during the exhaust stroke. The turbo will scavenge power to charge the battery at speed from wasted power exiting the manifold.By eliminating the drag and leakage of a valve train and performing those functions by turbo pressure driven most of the time by exhaust pressure, efficiency is greatly enhanced. No more leaky valve seals and seats. Many fewer parts. The one new part is a combination of existing turbo, electric motor/generator technology that when driven electrically at times of low exhaust flow acts as a supercharger. The other new part is software code to control this turbo/motor controller scavenger generator. It would be fascinating to watch this development of the opoc engine happen.Maybe in a smart in my lifetime. It could happen!
  3. Here's the latest update:™-engineNow for my take on things: I can imagine an opoc in a smart ev hybrid. No transmission needed. Great low end torque, just need a small longlife fast charge iron battery to complete the mix. ;PI was impressed with Hofbauer's experience. He worked on the Boxer Engine and is the father of the clean Jetta Diesel Engine. If anybody can pull this off, he should have the brain to do it. The beauty of his design is low emissions at startup due to an integral electric supercharger/turbo charger that preheats the initial charge so there is no warm up required, no glo-plugs. The second cylinder is coupled and decoupled with an electric clutch and brought on line as needed. Instead of using the pistons to move the charge into the cylinder, the turbo supercharger does that and accomplishes the required exhaust scavenging through ported sidewalls, a la Mazda RX 8, and there goes your valve train. The cdi is familiar technology, as is the use of shaped piston crowns for ideal combustion chambers only now coming together on opposite pistons. Shrink this down under the floor of a smart along with an iron battery and New York to LA on a single tank is a piece of cake.smartopoc hybrid- Don't need no stinkin transmission. Any body got a high density Nano Iron Battery you're working on? Oh, By the way, the Electronically Controlled Turbo/super/charger is a generator (charger) that uses exhaust energy to charge the battery as well. How efficient is that? The parasitic generator as we know it may be going away. Now, if Renault/Nissan can jump on this, and package it for that new modular power plant for the forfour and fortwo, they won't need all those other engines. Now, pour that out of ceramic, and bake it in an easy bake oven...I have my $99 check written out!
  4. My cabrio gate failed to click shut the second click on one side with an extremely heavy downpour following. It rained off and on, mostly on for a week. The results were similar to yours. I believe the soaked carpeting foam rubber backing over the engine access gets dried out due to the heat, but the evaporated moisture condenses on the cool metal on the floor under your carpeting. I found an inch to an inch and a half of water in the battery well on the passenger side. l. h. drive 451. I would get a little bit of water blown in between the rear window and its' roof seal when in an extremely high pressure touchless carwash. I have been impressed with the water tightness of the roof after much investigation since my carpet soaking experience. I ended up removing the seats, to get at and remove the carpet. if you do be sure to disconnect the battery until you have reconnected all of the connectors on your seats or you will have to pay smart svc center to reset the fault detected for the disconnected airbag.Be sure to check the battery well. I never found any other leaks and it has remained dry since. Still loving this car! Mercedes did an excellent job engineering this car's top.
  5. Dumb and stoopid! Two for one parking should be escalated to a spot by the door for green (spell that ECO) and space efficient cars such as the smart! We are promoting every thing else green! Toronto just needs to "Open their mind to Smart"!
