About kdscott10

  1. Classic. Just went out to see which blub to buy (at NAPA no less), started her up and for the first time in 2 days the engine light was off. Scanguage was 6000, but reset it. Oh well, a little stress but will see how the drive home goes.
  2. Hello, love this little car, but I have the regular CDI electrical issues. Headlight out, but I see the fix on today's post (gracias!) Checked the oil and it is fine. Like I said, there is nothing apparently wrong with the car. The scanguage says 6001, and I unplugged it, started the car a number of times, and the light stays on and the scanguage still flashes 6001. Any advice other than what MB would say? I have searched other posts and many have just towed their car, but with the other electical issues, I do not want to do that, but then again, I do not want to endanger the engine. On another note, advertising new Smarts for 13G here in Calgary, and others with a free two person hottube. Within a 5 minute walk of my downtown house there are about 35 Smarts on a lot, that must be owned by the downtown MB shop. Was told by an MB sales guy that they only make 2G on each car and that many MB dealership in the US refuse to sell the Smarts. Anyway, just gossip. Thanks for your help. Kevin
  3. Morning. Getting a bit of wear on the inside of the front tires. Trying to find a place other than MB to take my 450 for a wheel alignment here in Calgary. The few places I have been to have advised the Smart is too narrow for their hoists. Does anyone know of a national shop or otherwise, that can handle smarts? Thanks
  4. Nice to see Hyundai trying to steal the goodwill Smart AG has generated with its innovative car......
  5. Thank you for all your assistance. The vendor too, advised it was the same ports and that it would work. If I win the auction (I am tempted to wait 9 months when our dollar is worth 35% more), I will hold it in my spare parts garage (currently housing land rover, jaguar and mgb parts...............). Thanks too, for the sage advice concerning the intercooler and holder. I intend on keeping this car for many years without the need to visit the MB garage. Just bought a K&N filter, added some air to the tires, filled up with Mohawk diesel and we have just bumped the MPG up to 75. Scangauge is coming Monday and I hope to join the 100 mile club on my next trip to Edmonton (since the trip is all downhill). To reiterate, with your comments about, and your interest in these cars is wonderful. What sets our culture apart from others is our love of knowledge and of helping others learn such knowledge. These are remarkable cars, and last night I let my sister (Ford Explorer gal for life) take it out for a drive and though she did drive it like it was stolen, she was VERY impressed with it. On my Mum's crescent here in Calgary there are now 2 of them, along with about 5 5.7 litre hemi trucks, so the tide is turning. Cheers,
  6. Greetings. I have a 2006 CDI. Having just purchased it, I do not know if the PO has previously overfilled the engine with oil, failed to cool the turbo after a long run, etc. I am interested in buying a used turbo and I note there is one on ebay. It is referenced as a:2004 Smart Fortwo KKK KP31 tiny turbo Turbocharger. Not having a parts manual I have no idea if the turbos on the 2004s would fit a 2006 cdi, and if the above noted turbo would work. Do any of you have any experience with this subject? Thanks,
  7. Thanks. Diesel it is. Hoping to get a million miles like other MB diesels. Bought the car from Kia and they were as clueless as me,but yes, found all the documents and feeling better about the car now. Went up to Banff and was pleasantly surprised at the ride , although I would like cruise control but will wait to see just how much highway driving I do. In case someone is searching this topic I will state the Radio Code is 8560. Cheers,
  8. Thank you all! I really appreciate it. Managed to tune manually and get the radio working better with advanced settings. Can now listen to Adler Nation I see on ebay there is a fellow selling a disk with repair information, kind of like kirby palm does with jaguar xj12 (though Kirby does not charge). Any thoughts? Was going to buy a scan gauge and a K&N air filter as I attempt to crack the magic 100 mpg. Looking for a used turbo too (you can tell I own British cars and like to stock up on the spare parts). Anyone have a 'coles notes" version on any other tips for mileage or maintenance? Thanks again for this site. I have poured over it and it has assisted me greatly. Cheers,
  9. Thanks for your assistance. Searched all night and found one chap with a similar problem (and many Americans). Blasted off an email to him. Thanks for your assistance. Cheers,
  10. Hi, yes indeed, there are two little and gutless speakers on each side and there is a cd changer underneath the passenger seat. I had to get the code from the dealer as the radio initially did not work, and it became operational. FM is fine, but yes, the AM just skips through. I adjusted the treble and base. I was hoping the code was sufficient for the better output but it has not. Thanks again.
  11. Greetings, 2006 smart. The AM radio has very poor reception, but more than that, it appears to have frequencies for Europe. I cannot get, for example, QR77 because the radio will not stop on 770 (I bought a radio in Namibia for my boat and the same thing happened when I sailed into Van 3 months ago). Am I missing something or does someone have any sage advice for me? thanks,
