About mineralfarmer

  1. A rock hit and shattered my movable sunroof on my 2006 Grandstyle fortwo cdi and the dealers show none available in the world. Been waiting over a month and no response yet from MB. Anyone know where I can locate a used one?
  2. Located in SW Colorado. Photo attached showing part numbers. Maybe you guys can tell me if they are streeline or sportline. If not sportline, where can I get sportline? That's what I was looking for in the first place.Still for sale as of 7/17/2012
  3. i THINK THEY ARE "STREETLINE." They are black, and look exactly like the stock shocks. Feel the same when comprssing by hand as well (I removed one of the OEM rears and compared).
  4. I gather from the photos that you can't open the window or the tailgate with this rack attached. Seems like that would be a major issue with it. How do you deal with this? How does the rack attach up top?
  5. New in box set of four Bilstein shocks for a 450 smart fortwo.I imported these from Europe at considerable shipping expense thinking they might be an improvement over stock, even though they were billed as "stock quality" shocks, since Bilsteins are so great in general. Upon examining them and the OEM shocks side by side, it appears they are identical, i.e. the OEM shocks are made by Bilstein. I could keep them for future use, but it is probably better that they not sit on the shelf for years, so I am offering them for sale. $400 US, delivered. Located in United States. Mine is a 2006 coupe--I don't recall if the application is the same for the cabrio or not.
  6. Answered my own question. It seems the relatively useless dash-light dimmer switch is a momentary-on switch and has the same connector as the fog light switch and is located, of course, in the right place. SO I just plugged my fog light harness into the dimmer switch and it works great to tuen the fogs on and off.
  7. ON a Canadian car, is there any trick to turning on the fog light circuit? When I had my Star system hooked up before installing the fogs, it said the fog circuit status was "on" all the time, but when I actually put the fogs in and connected them to the original wiring harness, they didn't come on. It sounds like the factory switch is a momentary-closed switch. DO I need to install such? Thanks for advice...
  8. Will the 4 - 7 jumper work on a 2006 CDI? Do you have something made up I can buy?
  9. Rear Window Glass Support Lift StrutI found it very difficult or impossible to locate a factory replacement for the rear window support lift struts, but there is an inexpensive generic aftermarket replacement that fits and works perfectly! It is the Strong Arm part # 4420. about 12" long and 30 lbs thrust. Available at Advanced Auto Parts and on line. $20-some each.

  11. Nobody in western Colorado has a STAR machine. HAve to go six hours to the Front Range, and even then there is some doubt as to whether they can handle a 450.
  12. Thanks, Alex. Thinking about getting a STAR myself from China. Lots of questions, though, like:Will it require a dealer security code to operate? Will it have the smart software? Will it have all the functions I need to reprogram to a new SAM box, set the clutch, etc.?
  13. Having had some more time this weekend to play with the car, I'm convinced that the issue is merely a combination of the following: The clutch actually starts to engage IMMEDIATELY off-idle (800 rpm or so) which puts a little drag on the engine before the turbo is spinning at all, so the car has no power and has a hard time getting started until the rpms build. This is exacerbated by our altitude. If I give it a little rpm in neutral and then put it into gear, it will go. I may adjust the clutch just a hair to allow the engine to build a few more rpm before engaging the clutch, if this makes any sense.Meanwhile, still no turnsignals and the wipers come on simultaneously with the use of the fan. Presumably due to SAM damage from water ingress. I have not identified where the water is coming from --all appears dry. Need to figure out how and where I'm going to get a new SAM programmed. May have to buy a STAR system from China. Also did the evilution fix for the right headlight adjustment motor--took it apart and cleaned the contacts of the slider rheostat with contact cleaner--no joy. Motor stilll runs continuously.
  14. Bought it from a used car dealer (high-end) in Dallas. He claims they drove it there for a month and a couple hundred miles and noted no problems. He is willing to work with me and get parts from his local Mercedes dealer, but the programming of trhe new SAM is a huge issue. Cleaning off the board made it look good, but did not solve the turn signal nor the wiper/fan problems.
