kajc67 posted a topic in Operation and Maintenance: 451 Model, 2008-2015, gasolineHello All, I have a 2008 451 Cabriolet. A common problem on this model is the tailgate will sometimes not open due to a part failure. This is the second time this has happened to me, but this time seems to be different. A few years ago I had to replace the actuator, which required me drilling two holes in to the tailgate from the inside so that I could slip in a small screwdriver to release the locking mechanism so this step is already done. I automatically assumed it was the actuator again and replaced it, but it didn't work. I read in forums that it could be the microswitch, which is part of the handle you squeeze to open the tailgate so I replaced it, but this too, didn't work. I have checked fuses and they are fine. As well the front and passenger door locks work fine. I don't know what else it could be. Has anyone else experienced this? UPDATE: Can anyone tell me if when the tailgate is locked does the actuator engage when you grab the handle or does it not function when locked. Does this make sense? I need to narrow this problem down so I need to know if when locked it deactivates the actuator or if the actuator still makes that operational noise, but just won't open (I cannot remember). I am considering replacing the automatic lock mechanism on the right side of the tailgate. It's the last thing I can think of that I can do myself before taking it in to a dealership.
Hey everyone! My name is Jeff, and I have been looking into purchasing a used Smart. based on my budget, I can afford either a 2005, 2006 or 2008. I do very little high way driving, but I do visit family every once and a wile out of town. I heard gas smarts are better for winter as they produce more heat that diesel engines, but I have no idea what I am really doing. I will attach links bellow with the ones I am looking at. I am a total car newbie and this will be my first vehicle. I'd really like it to be a smart, but I don't know the first thing about buying a used smart. Any and all help would be super appreciated! 2008 Smart: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/edmonton/2008-smart-fortwo-pure-extremely-low-mownthly-paymnets-apply-n/1194181109?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true 2005 Smart: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/edmonton/smart-for-two-2005-passion/1197815490?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true 2006 Smart: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/edmonton/2006-smart-fortwo-pure/1197343289?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true I am leaning towards the 2008 because I believe they have cruise control, which is super important if I visit family outside the city. Thanks everyone In advance!! I can't wait to own a smart; been a dream of mine since the first came here in Canada. - Jeff
simplex17 posted a topic in Introduce YourselfMy 2008 smart passion won't go into park. This just happened today. I was coming home and pulled into my driveway and put the car in park and instead of showing P on the dash it showed a blinking N. It drives and shifts fine. I moved through the gears a few times and still comes up a blinking N. After trying a few times I left it in park with the N still blinking and let off the break to see if it would roll back and it didn't. It felt as if it was in park. I also can not remove the key. It will not turn all the way back to the removal position. That really bothers me because I only have one key right now and have to leave it unlocked. The car will not start in the park position. I have to move the shifter to neutral in order to start the car. On another note when in N, R, or D the small lights what show what gear you are in near the bottom of the shifter come on, but the small P does not light up when I put it in park. Any ideas what could be the problem?
