Early observations on increasing intake

2 posts in this topic

I've now de-lipped the air intake and yesterday I removed the centre cap altogether, in readiness to install a scoop. I also have a K&N filter on order. After removing the intake cover and screening it, I'm driving with this 1/2 done mod in place for now.

I immediately noticed:

~ much smoother take-off in forward and reverse gears - slight chatter is gone

~ improved (quicker) gear change interval

~ slight increase in (what Eddy likes to call) thrust following upshifts

~ engine runs a bit smoother at low rpm in tall gears

Once I get the whole set of mods completed and have run through a tank of fuel to get milage results, I'll post a final report.

Oh, I have to ask: on the UK FunkySmart forum, someone mentioned that the ECM doesn't completely accommodate itself to changes like this until after 100K or so. Anyone know the story on this?

Bil:)

PS see photos : a store-bought intake option vs my own partially done mod. I feel completely comfortable driving like this during my 1-2 week wait for parts.

I wouldn't be surprised if you actually reduce air intake by putting a scoop over that. I think you have a winner there. :buttrock:
