Automotive News and Dealerships

2 posts in this topic

Meant to post this last week when I came acrossed it (don't think I've noticed anyone else posting it yet), but got busy with the new semester here.

Anyhow, as reported in Automotive News last monday (8/20), SmartUSA plans 10 stand alone stores, and an initial network of only 40 dealers, according to SmartUSA pres David Schembri. this initial 40 (presumably Jan/Feb dealers?) will grow to 60 by the end of 2008, and 70 within "a couple of years". I actually had emailed the author of the article to see how recent the quotes from Schembri were - as the story also says that only 20,000 customers are registered - but haven't heard back from her.

Also, of the initial 40, only 7 or 8 will be current PAG dealers, and about half will be Mercedes dealers

Good for them; maybe they'll start lobbying MBUSA for the B-Class, the B-Class CDI and perhaps even the A-Class.
