285 posts in this topic

I havent heard anything yet. Still waiting. Anybody get their confirmation email lately? Especially in SOCAL? Reservation date is 5/28/07, Last 4 digits confirmation code 1243. Anyone have an updated spreadsheet based on the their reservation dates and confirmation emails etc up through this week? Im curious on what it says or if anyone has one thats updated. Thanks,Tim

I have found some new reports of confirmation invitations and deliveries. I updated the table that I posted previously. I added the state abbreviation when it was available. Schmimbo, you'll notice that a reservation number 1209 in CA reported confirming on 12/14/07. Your turn should be coming up soon.reservation__ confirmation___confirmation letter______statusdate code____e-mail date____wording1173________09/17/07__________?________________some delivered in January1173________10/03/07_______first 90 days of 20081174________10/08/07_______first half of 20081175________10/09/07__________?________________delivery expected February1176________10/17/07__________?1179________10/20/07_______first half of 20081180__________?____(IL)_______?________________delivered 2/13/081180__________?____(PA)______?________________expected delivery by Mar 11182________10/26/07_______first half of 20081182__________?____(AZ)______?________________expected delivery by Apr 11183________10/26/08 (OH)______?________________expected delivery by Mar 11184________11/06/07__________?1185________11/06/08__________?1188________11/09/07__________?1201________11/26/07__________?1205________11/30/07__________?1214________12/14/07__________?1221________12/14/07_______second half of 20081222________12/14/07__________?1234________12/14/07__________?(in this thread, aphoenix says that in the future confirmation notices will be made based on a combination of reservation date and dealer balancing considerations .)1180__________?____(TX)______?____________passion expected late Feb1180__________?____(TX)______?____________cabrio, same family, no due date1189__________?____(NJ)_______?___________expected delivery in Feb1184_______________(MO)__________________nothing as of 2/10/08 (??)1209________02/14/08 (CA)______?1227______________ (NE)___________________no confirmation as of 02/01/081232________01/25/08__________?1244________01/26/08__________?1247________02/15/08 (TN)______?1248_______________(IL)___________________no confirmation as of 02/01/081262________02/15/08 (WA)_____?1264________02/15/08 (MN)_____?1281________02/15/08 (NM)_____?1286________01/22/08__________?1305________01/25/08__________?1327________02/15/08 (VA)______?1353________02/15/08 (TX)______?

Thank you Ohiosmart I appreciate it. Still waiting for something. I figured it would be here by now. As soon as I get something I will post it here so you can update your table you got going on. Just a little frustrating to see confirmation emails go out and then its like somebody goes on vacation at smart and then we dont hear anthing for what seems like an eternity about a new confirmation emails being sent out again. There is no consistancy with them and their time table.

RE: my post above. From what I'm told mine may not be available for weeks. So that puts me into March - the end of the 1st quarter.

I reserved 938 am on the first day..my car arrived dec 15th in Baltimore.....because the beach dealer wasn't ready it was assigned to Alexandria...they contacted me Jan 10th and said delivery within 30 days..It's now the 19th of Feb and Alexandria is still not ready either, so sometimes we just have to wait.

(in this thread, aphoenix says that in the future confirmation notices will be made based on a combination of reservation date and dealer balancing considerations .)

If this is true. Just thinking about it in my own head since I’m standing in line with the others waiting for confirmation email of some sort.

(Probably should have just scabbed the line and bought an orphan and thumbed my nose at all reservation holders and settled) This previous statement made by aphoenix and the table shown here by Ohiosmart means if you went to the smart road show tour anytime in 2007 and test drove the smarts then made your $99.00 reservation because you were sold on it from the road show experience and you live in a major metropolitan city your F'd on getting your car early this year and possibly not at all in 2008. Shocking and a little miffed at the planning and execution of how this is turning out at least for me and others still waiting.

It looks like that if you made your $99.00 reservation way before the smart road show tour kicked off and you don’t live in major city you will get your smart in 2008.

All others including new smart car people who didn’t know about smarts before the road show are going to completely disappointed and probably abandon ship for this waiting list that seems to me will never get fulfilled on time. Smart cars will always be back ordered because they simply can’t fulfill the huge demand now surged by all North American demand and still supplying the needs of the rest of the World buyers.

In a time when the US dollar sucks and the oil prices sky rocketing, real estate taking a major dump, foreclosures at all time high, American auto sales tanking, the economy here is changing by the week and by the time smart gets out to deliver the cars to reservation holders that made reservations over a year ago it might be too late and have a sea of orphan cars and smart dealers sitting on cars because of production strains, timing and the US economy. The sky is not falling. Just my 2 cents anyways while I wait in line with everybody else to give my money to smart.

smart in Riverside, California told me anyone who walked in today would have a 10 month wait....I thought it would be longer. Mine should be in the next shipment tho....I'm looking forward to the 300 mile drive back to Arizona. My last smart purchase was a considerably longer drive home: 3 days!!

Even if this 10 month wait comment is true. Thats certainly alot sooner than the year plus time the majority are having to wait. Right now its looking more like 16 plus months from the time I made my $99.00 reservation as well as others still waiting. Wouldnt be surprised if its 18-24 months total time from reservation to drive off.

Ditto for me, as well. I am growing weary of the waiting game. This Thursday, 2/28, will make 11 months since I placed my reservation, and will also mark 4 months since finalizing my order. I contacted my dealer, as well as smartusa, and can get very little as far as a current status report on my car. All smartusa will say is that my car will be routed to my dealer, who will then contact me when my car is available. All my dealer says is "manufacturer only releases a few names per month, and maybe [my] name will be on the March list".I know I'm somewhere within the first 4000-5000 reservations, and the only reason I know that is from reading it here on CsC. And many thanks to Ohiosmart for at least giving me some idea of an estimated timeframe, because I'm not hearing anything from my dealer. I'm not a very happy camper right now. <_< wayneo66

:manygrins2: What a difference a few days makes!! I finally got the word from my dealer!!! Got home and there was a message on my machine from my dealer, saying that my fortwo should be delivered around mid-March, and maybe before then, depending upon when the truck gets it there. I don't have a firm, set date just yet. All this call was for was to double-check me on whether I was still in the market for my car. As soon as more info comes my way, I'll post more.Quick note to Ohiosmart: I'm an '1182' reservation if you wish to update your timetable, which I have viewed many times with great anticipation. Thank you, my friend! So, maybe now I can get through the purchase process reasonably unscathed, thanks to reading about many others' experiences here on CsC. Thanks to everyone for sharing your info. :thanx: --wayneo66

Oh Wayneo66 and TexSmartThat’s such good news. :) I’m happy for your good news. I love to hear good news on this site. I keep reading horror stories about delays, dealer gouging, dealer markups, people unhappy with the smarts, bad reviews, people changing their minds etc. So good news is great to hear and read about. I will also appreciate to hear the positive and realistic news about your smarts once you get them home and are breaking them in.Still waiting for a configure email from my May $99.00 reservation. Here is my new story for anyone who cares to read up.Went to my local dealer purely to see what’s sup with the configure emails situation and why haven’t I heard anything. Had them call smart USA for me (figuring there’s a smart dealer to corporate hotline) to find out why so long for my 1243 reservation number just to config. She asked my name, address, phone and email to confirm and then I told her my reservation #. The smart USA lady said "what’s with the 1243 number?"I said that’s the last 4 digits of my reservation confirmation number from my $99.00 sign up. She said "We don’t go by those numbers at all and where did I hear such a thing?" I must have turned white right there in the reception of my smart dealer. She asked me to be patient. I said its kind of hard to be patient when I see or hear about other smart people reserving in November and December 2007 and getting their config emails or actually getting their smarts already. Told her it’s hard to be patient at this point. I guess smart USA didn’t count on the communication level of these user boards and forums. She told me based on my May 2007 reservation it could still be several weeks to several months to get the actual invite to config. She also said it would be another 4 to 5 months after the config email to take delivery of my smart. Said okay thanks and she asks is there anything else she could do for me. I said yes hurry up already. She laughed.Back to the smart car dealership lobby. I asked my salesperson to be put on the smart orphan list. Told them how I was the first person on January 17, 2008 to be their first walk in customer etc. and they weren’t taking smart orphan lists at that time. They said the would be happy to put me on the orphan list. So I agreed figuring it might be faster than waiting what seems to be a never-ending time period to actually take delivery and maybe just maybe I could get the same car I want from a cancellation. They asked me for an upfront $2000.00 deposit just to be put on the list. I asked what for? They said to weed out the people who are serious buyers and those who are looky loos. I asked how many people are on the $2000.00 orphan list. The dealer said well over 100 people in line who have paid the $2K fee. :o I asked if they had any orphans on the lot that I could look at. Of course they had 1 for me. My silver/silver/black leather. Almost exactly what I wanted. Except No alarm, no upgraded stereo but figured I would upgrade that myself for my Sirius satellite etc. Took it for a test-drive and liked it. But already knew what it was from the other test drives with the smart road show. Didn’t need to be convinced. Got the specs, prices, etc. Looked at the sticker had $2583.00 in extra add ons. :o Lo Jack Alarm system, paint protection finish (BullSh$%) Didn’t look any different to me. But figured okay let me do the math to get my smart today or tomorrow. this smart came to $22K out the door after all the fees and taxes were paid and an extended warranty. For whatever reason I couldn’t get over paying for items I didn’t want or felt I needed simply to get my smart now and still needed to upgrade the stereo etc. Yes I’m bummed because I almost bought it and would finally shut up about getting one. Just didn’t feel right. The dealer said the car had been on the lot for 42 days. No other orphan buyers wanted it before I walked in? Cmon... There’s a reason why they didn’t buy it also. So I called insurance to get a quote to add the potential new smart on my AAA policy. $1249.00 for the year with no tickets and no accidents. So I passed on the car for now and passed on the $2K orphan list as well. Well I’m sure other people have similar stories or heard of them. But this is my story for today. Guess I’ll just wait for my config email and wait it out until the one I order comes in to avoid paying for dealer extras. Otherwise pony up and beyond the sticker to get one today.
