I tried to sit in one at CIAS last night. I sat in only a few cars - but as astonished that it was virtually impossible for me to "fit" into the Fit! In my smart, I can stick my legs straight out in front of me. My knees were all jammed up into the steering column on the Fit.-Iain

I've had the same issue in the current Jazz/Fit since its entry to the Caribbean and NA markets, and I'm only 5'9" tall. There is OK room on the passenger's side and lots in the back considering the size of the car. Headroom is only just adequate, but the storage space and versatility are huge benefits of this cool little car. Now, if only it were not so (typically-Honda-) over-priced for what you get. Sure, it starts at $17K or so. But optioned out it leaps over $22,000 and with neither heated seats nor a moon-roof available... a pricy little car that gets lousier FE than a Civic DX.

The new Fit is made in China. I liked the versatility of the old one (to replace my escort wagon). Wonder if the Chinese will make a knock-off?Ian

A Honda rep at the auto show two years ago told me the present fit is ALSO made in China. Meaning, the ones sold here now.

This is interesting to me.. when i sat in the smart car at the LA AUTO SHOW last year the smart car was so small i couldnt even close the door without hitting my ass on the door panels lol :) im 5'9 180 so not fat by any means and i felt very clostrophobic in it.

Technically it gets better FE than a civic my best friend owns one and i get better mpg every tank. also his civic was 18k plus tax licence and title and and mine fully loaded was only 15,200 so maybe its just because your in the caribbean but in north america you can get a fully loaded fit sport for at the VERY most 16k. and is RATED better than ANY of the cars in its class BY EVERY AUTOMOTIVE WEBSITE AND MAGAZINE.. beating out the kia's the yaris and the scion counterparts.

and last but not least the HONDA FIT USDM version is the ONLY other USDM HONDA other than the CIVIC SI made in JAPAN. so the rep was completely incorrect if you cruise over to any honda dealership right on the sticker it says final assembly was in JAPAN and all parts are from JAPAN.

Hi old friends! Not sure how many of you guys remember who I am, but I once was a forum member here (active enough to be a mod :P ). I did sell my smart to get a Fit mainly for the extra room. I can play fair on both sides of the field haha.Just to clarify things, the current Honda Fit is still manufactured in Japan for the North American market. China does manufacture Fit's but for their own market only. Both cars are great, lots of room for the driver and passenger in the smart car, but of course not as much cargo nor the luxury of a back seat. Still miss my old smart car and the reactions I got when I passed those stupid SUV's here in Calgary ;) Cheers everyone, lets all play nice! :D We are on the same team but with a different bat that's all hehe :P

Hmm. Did you notice the line up of 4 year olds waiting for a ride? Did you notice the coin slot? I'm pretty sure you tried to ride the coin operated kiddy car. We've got members in here that eat meals bigger than you without complaining about the fit inside their smart cars.Mike T: Your right, it's been a while. Hooray! I missed guys like this.

Hi Illusive, how is the car, the fuel economy, the maintenance costs etc?Perhaps you can tame the troll for us, then! Evidently he doesn't know the difference between citing another's quote and an assumption :lol:It's funny, the new Fit looks almost ecaxtly like the old one to me, in fact I think I like the look of the old one better. The Fit is definitely better looking and more versatile than a Toyota YARBLES, no doubt about that.....it even sort of looks like my B Class.Best tank: 70.0 US MPGWorst tank: 50.2 US MPGLifetime average: 60.3 US MPG

Regarding space: Hand on heart, the Honda Fit is the most difficult car I've ever tried to sit in. I guess I'm all leg, but there's NO WAY the Fit has more driver/passenger room than the smart. None. I can stick my legs straight out in the smart and not touch the front bulkhead; in the Fit, my knees were jammed up so hard into the steering wheel that I couldn't even get the driver's door shut.-Iain

Duck,Maybe you need to explain to everyone how tall you are? I reckon that you can't be more than 2 feet over six feet tall :)

Does anyone have any idea if the new 2009 Fit is longer then the current version? Trying to make a second car work in tandem with the Smart in our parking spot so length is critical.

Hi Mike, glad to be back! Unfortunately it took a misunderstanding to bring me back to my original digs :P I'm dealing with the people from the Fit forum and explaining what's going on and defending the smart as best I can haha. I'll keep things straight over there and prevent any more of this trolling over here.So far, the fuel economy in my Fit is pretty good despite being modified. Not as good as the smart mind you, but then I'd be comparing petrol engines to diesel engines! I hear the new smart is running petrol engines :(Maintenance is much better with the Honda, a lot cheaper than the smart was that's for sure. But it is a Honda right? Not a Merc :)Car is great, lots of great aftermarket support and a lot of fun to drive. I'm boosting my Fit this summer and will be running it in Auto-X and track days here in Calgary, so it should be a lot of fun! Not as much attention as the smart, but the additional room in the back with the magic seats is awesome! Not too many of us are happy with the new redesign as it looks more mini van than a proper small wagon. I believe the dimensions of the new Fit will be similar to that of the current one. If I was to guess, I'd say it'll be a bit bigger, but not by much. Interior is definitely much better in the new one, but the exterior...bleh...Not sure where the new one is going to be made, but the current one in Canada and the US is manufactured in Japan, not China. I would never buy a car manufactured in China until their standards go up.It's good that we all dislike the Yaris, so we can find some common ground! :PGlad to be posting up here once again, but I wish it was on better terms! We need to get a smart/Fit meet going sometime for a micro meet hahaha...any smart meets in the Calgary area anytime soon?

I dunno, the Yaris was pretty horrid to sit in. And so is the Lancer, old or new! I like how the Fit sits, but some people aren't too happy with the stock seats. I've already replaced mine with a racing seat and it is perfect for me. Then again, I'm not as tall as some of you haha. I do have to say though, the smart does have the most leg room of all the compact micro cars.

Can't tell you for sure, but I'm going to wager that it'll be a bit bigger than the current generation Fit. Definitely should get an 08 Fit before they bring in those ugly 09 ones :P

That has to do with the color Mike ;)

I think it looks more like the A class that we never got here.

Likewise about doing your homework. For instance, what kind of ratings are you referring to? The Fit is a good piece of machine but it is priced accordingly; The Civic is not over-priced in comparison to what you get from a Fit, and if you don't believe me, then I dare you to explain the missing driver's footrest, the false floor, the hollow roof liner, cheap seats, or the missing gas cap latch. I hope the poor rear crash rating from IIHS didn't pass you unnoticed. And the other thing is that the Civic Hybrid is yet another Japanese import at Honda. Just so you know I can nitpick with the best of them. Edited by spinner

I'm making peace with the Fit crowd now. It's not like they are an H1 club or something! The last thing we want is for all the small car crowd to start hating each other.

One topic on one forum doesn't represent the masses. There have been previous discussion threads here on the Fit. Taste is an individual thing and not worth getting upset about. The astonishing thing is that the Made In China rumour keeps cropping up here, despite the facts. I blame one person in particular, whose personal prejudices causes them to incite trouble like this, even at the cost of truth. But trolling isn't so black-and-white that it can be easily managed -- even long-term members can sometimes be a troll. All any critical reader of forums can really do is to not put any individual on too high of a pedestal. You can't assume so much about them.

Any bet that North America will only get the gas-guzzling big-power version?

Duck I'm 6'5" and can't sit in a fit to find out of I have enough leg room or not. There isn't enough head room for me to twist around and try my legs. Yet I fit fine in the smart fortwo, mini cooper, New Beetle, Golf, Jetta, Passat, C30, MS3.... but in the Accord, Camry, Civic, Fit... I'm cramped and seriously uncomfortable.... :(
