Maine smart run

5 posts in this topic

On Saturday 15-November-2008 the Massachusetts smart car group supported by the smart center in Lynnfield organized a cruise on the coast of Maine. Despite the fog and intermittent showers, 28 smart cars participated meeting at different places along the route, cumulating at the Kittery Trading Post. Smart owners had traveled from Maine, New Hampshire (including a blue/silver previous generation smart car), Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and the distance winner at over 260 miles – New York City!We all had fun with a 50/50 cash drawing and drawings for prizes donated by local photographers and Herb Chambers of the Lynnfield smart center represented by Rob from Sales. From the Trading Post we drove through York to Nubble Lighthouse. A storm in the Gulf of Maine was cresting waves on the road in York over Long Sands Beach, fortunately even though the waves hit one smart, no one was washed out to sea! The fog was very thick and obscured the Lighthouse, but we were able to get in some group photos. Lunch and conversation was enjoyed at the Cape Neddick Lobster Pound on the Shore Road in York. After lunch the group split up, some going shopping at the Outlets in Kittery, some heading home, and a third group of us traveling up the Shore Road to Perkins Cove in Ogunquit. We had a history lesson about the cove from Tom at Swamp John’s shop in Perkins Cove where a cornucopia of jewelry, art, and glass work was available. We all had a great time and the memories we hold us through the Winter until we can cruise again as a group in the Spring. :D

Thanks for the great pictures. Was there advanced notice of this on this website? I didn't see it. If you plan another run in the spring please post. You may get some crazy people from farther afield.

Hear hear! It wouldn't be the first time smarties traveled a serious distance just to meet up! Some of us would love an excuse to come to Maine

It was a great run even with the weather. Lots of pics over on the smart insider board. Here is my favorite one. While the smart is NOT an amiphcar (sp) it does quite well with a little water.

Smarts Vs The Atlantic, smarts take on the breakwater at York Beach. Oh and the smarts won!

It's a little wierd to see so many new 451 smarts together! Here in Canada , most of the smart gatherings are of the older style 450 cdi's.
