Planning on purchasing a new smart

25 posts in this topic

I currently live in the GTA and I'm planning on purchasing a new smart pure. Is there anyway to figure out which dealerships have the most inventory so it is more likely they would have the exact configuration I'm looking for. I'm assuming that there is no longer an insane waiting list these days. Thanks

You assume rightly!I think all the Toronto area stores are "corporate" so whatever inventory is at any of them would be shared. You might as well call a dealer and see what is in that pooled inventory.Virtually no new smarts are coming into Canada at this point and we're near the model year changeover anyway.

I almost forgot about the new model year. Any idea if there are there going to be more discounts on the 2009 models because of this? or should i just hold out for the 2010s

They definitely have a surplus of 2009s, so if you wait until the end of the month they might be quite willing to wheel and deal on price. You should get $2000 off MSRP for starters, and it should get better from there. The $2K thing is an incentive from MB Canada. The 2010 model will be more or less similar, so we are led to believe, but I am not sure about that. We might see the mhd version (stop/start), but probably not.

The corporate stores won't bid against each other! Maybe one of the independents would, but you'd likely have to go out of GTA to find such a smart centre.

so would the markham, missisauga, oakville or st. catherine ones be independant dealers? Just got a message from a mississauga rep, I'm guessing they're independant? Also, I'm planning on test driving one at my local dealership to make sure the transmission and acceleration aren't going to be an issue for my style of driving. Will i have to book one ahead of time or can i just walk in and ask for one.

I received an email from Oakville, they have a big sale on smart cars, all M-B discounts plus the cars are priced $500 under dealer cost. Passions for Pure prices, I would recommend you step up to a Passion is you are able, if for no other reason then better interior materials. The Scodic grey material in the Pure is horrible and stains if you look at it funny.post-5864-1252597286_thumb.png

Hi Edward,I'm a corporate location. Being corporate we have access to more inventory. Being a smart specialist my advice would be to call and make an appointment if possible regardless of where you go. It gives us a chance to have a car ready for you and provide you with better service. It does get busy at times, and this will avoid unnecessary waiting.Any other questions please let me know.Ed

Just test drove a smart car yesterday at the dealership closest to my house, and I loved it. But I think i'll have to listen to mike and wait until the end of the month cause the dealer clearly wasn't budging on the price.

I use the Mississauga location on Mavis - they are discounting by $3000 any 2009 smart. Not sure you should wait if you have a particular model/colour in mind...

If its not fast enough you can always slap a turbo on it! Takes gas from 70hp to 130+hp We have some "experimental" guys pushing 200+hp (we recommend stock boost of 8-10psi 130hp)http://www.smartmadness.com/servlet/the-29...ar-turbo/DetailKeep in mind the gas version is basically a turbo motor without a turbo on it.....loves boost!Good luck with your purchase. Keep in mind the tridion color is the most important --- you can swap color panels easily....if you can find the options you want with the tridion color you want go for it....panels brand new are only 950 USD...much easier to change panel color than tridion color lol.Cheers!Sergio

Just bought my new Smart! will be picking it up this sat. Gotta buy insurance for it now, not something i'm looking forward to. Is it true that the monthly insurance payments cost more than the financing payments?

Hi,As far as I was told from RBC Ins. In the old days there was a savings in paying your insurance in full for the the year. But nowadays they just want your money, so pay up front or in 12 installments, there is no discount.Have fun with your smart.Steve

So what did you end up buying? The Pure or the Passion and in what color combination?

Congrats on your purchase! Get some Scotch Guard for your Scodic grey interior or it will be a mess in short order.

I have a set of Wet Okole seat covers in my car, very happy with them. Tried the heaters out today and they work like a charm, looking forward to winter driving in the smart.

Make sure the side airbag apertures are not covered by a generic seat cover.

are the seats classified as the generic high back bucket seats with side airbags? I'm thinking about hitting some auto accessories stores this weekend.

lol congrats! that was the last white pure model left in GTA! ps... we (corporate) don't bid against each other, because we get flats and give the lowest price possible anyway, so there is no point. Waste of time for consumer and you get a better experience knowing you can buy at your closest dealership for the best price available. True about having more stock, we can swap between locations, and have over 20 demo's to take freight/pdi off. We all help each other out to the benefit of the customer. Whichever is closest for you, or you feel more comfortable at, it's up to you. Either way you'll get the car pretty much at cost wherever you go now (corporate). Most of the Pure's are going for below cost, that's why there is only a handful left.
