Hello from Oakville!

After watching the Smart car at Auto Shows and getting plenty of info about it thanks to the internet, newsprint etc., it was only matter of time to get one.

Wow, having it for a month now, I still can't wipe the big grin from my face at the end of day. What a joy and fun to boot around using about 4.5 l of diesel (so far) per 100 km.

My car has barely 1900 km on the odometer at this stage, so consumption should still improve.

I am using this car for business and the vehicle is creating the attention which I have been looking for.

Keep smiling, life is way too short.

Welcome Steve. Let us know what you have (colour, type, options) I drive between Edmonton and Gibbons daily on the Manning, with occasional weekend trips to the DQ in the Fort, so I may see you sometimes.

Welcome Steve!

Why is it "Safety Steve"? There must be a back story there!

Thanks for the responses and it is great to be able to chat with other people who own Smart cars. I have a Pulse fortwo coupe with the stream green body panel and black tridion cell. The interior is twister blue/grey. Do not have many options that I would consider trying to type up. I will be expanding on the car but just starting basic and getting my feel for the beautiful beast that I now own. I look forward to meeting other Smart owners and seeing what other options there are out there and how they look at on the vehicle. Well my career choice has been to be a health and safety specialist. Hence the SafetySteve user name.

So does anyone feel like doing a meet and great at Hawrelak Park, Edmonton on Saturday, June 24, 2006 sometime in the afternoon?

hello, everyone.

1. "i'm in love! i'm in love! i'm in love! i'm in love! i'm in love with a wonderful..." smart! for the life of me, i cannot remember (sick since thursday) how i found this car but, yes, it was love at first sight.

2. wonderful site you have - great camaraderie.

3. (still) sick in bed and been checking much smart info between snoozes. i am shocked and apalled that we don't officially (non-grey market) have smarts in the usa. what's up w/this anti-diesel mentality here?

4. i think i'm moving to vancouver.

until then, i guess i'll be lurking.

Have patience! The smart should be invading the USA next spring!

Your choices have demonstrated that you have done your homework. Let the waiting begin!

Good luck!

Interestingggg you haven't even received your car and you're doing mods! I like it!!!

That was a complaint that I had with the smart so I made my own. The more conventional way would be to buy one from smartieparts. I have yet to see a ''bought'' one but they have received good reviews. Enjoy!!!

Hi All,

Saw a local CTV News feature on "Smarties" and decided to join. I loved the Smart Car from the first time I saw it but was told it was "impractical." Then our 10-year old grandson, Jaspar, won a 2005 Cabriolet from the Guelph Enviorentmal Stewardship group. Not practical for a family of four that bikes when it can, and uses the old Volvo station wagon when it can't. They weren't sure what they were going to do with the car.

Living in the country we put on a lot of miles, "going to town." I wasn't sure that a second car was "practical" but after a late night October swim I decided I wanted that car. So, at the age of 65, I became the owner of the car of my dreams. We drove to Guelph, gave a cheque for the educational fund, and next day I drove my little car some 200 km. home. Since October I have put on 9,000 km driving through Muskoka snow, slush and rain. I have shared my enthusiasm with numerous curiosity seekers, including a fellow from North Bay who said the Smart Car was built to Nascar standards. A woman who felt it was not safe on the super highways did some extra research and is now driving a twin to mine. My biggest thrill is when I see teen-aged boys giving me the "thumbs up."

Now that summer is here we have great fun driving with the top down, and giving our friends a ride. All are surprised at how "roomy" the little car is. Given my passion for the environment I feel that driving my "Whimsy" is a public statement of that passion. Look forward to more sharings..........Baba Nadya

I bought the mid range one from Steve at Smartiparts.

Top lid raises for some storage and entire unit folds back between seats when not in use.

I like it on long trips.

Be careful when installing as the base has to be secured

in proper position to allow emergency brake to fully retract.

Meet Miss Molly - maybe as in Good Golly Miss Molly or perhaps, Molly as in Molybdenum, time will tell. Definitly worth the wait, too bad we had some thunder storms going through the area interfered with out travels!
