how many km are on your smart?

236 posts in this topic

One of the more interesting threads at the US smart forum is the total mileage thread. I thought we should do one of those here. The idea is to give the current km of your smart from time to time, along with some basic information on the car, like when it was bought, whether the engine has been repaired or replaced. As updates are added when the car hits a relatively even number of km like a multiple of 5000 or 10,000.

A summary of the latest information would be put together by me or someone else occasionally so everyone could see at a glance what the km totals are at.

I'll start:

Mike T: 2005 smart cdi, bought 8 January 2005, 185,600 km, no engine repairs

Alex, 2006 pure CDI, received Dec 18, 2006, 135,000 Km, no engine repairs unless you count warranty turbos (2) that weren't really needed, but if Mercedes insists then OK by me.Ball joints and normal maintenance items.

My 2005 has 68,800 km. I bought it in late November 2009 with 24,100 (or thereabouts)It still runs admirably but I have had a number of issues:New glow plugs, last Tuesday. The air bag light came on and required resoldering of one of the connectors under one of the seats.Last spring it broke down on the highway because of bad grounds.I had to replace the springs and the handbrake cables. The handbrake spring mechanism is also seized. There are 2-3 leaking seals which haven't been replaced yet but require me to check the oil 2-3 times a month. The ABS, brake, and traction control lights come on when I start the car about 30% of the times. The windshield wipers and washer always work but do not produce good results.I replaced both headlights when one died last fall. They were both dead last week.I suspect I need a new battery, which would be normal after 6 years.I suspect the problems with the springs and handbrake is from the previous owner. It was likely stored for a long period with the brake on. The leaking seals are probably because it is suddenly being driven quite hard after hardly being driven for so long.Although it has given me a few heartaches I still find it a blast to own and drive.

2006 Passion "fully Loaded" (that is what the Smart service told me...) Bought it used at the end of January 2011 with 46000km. Service history unknown... Actually, all I know is that it was always serviced at the local Smart dealer ship. As I said I have no idea about the history and therefore have to tackle the following in the near future:Wet carpet on passenger side (will take care of that as soon as the temperatures warm up and I can leave sunroof open during the day... Dashboard display light and diesel water separator light stays on after locking the doors... I know that filter was changed a couple of weeks ago... Therefore it can only be an connection issue with some type of plug... Will let Smart deal with that. Other then that, I'm very happy!

2005 pure coupe, current mileage just shy of 178,000km. Purchased August of 2008 with 80,000km. I have had to replaced starter, alternator, engine wire harness, passenger front spring, clutch actuator. London M-B replaced the front spoiler, front center panel and driver door after they dropped it off their hoist. I have had issues with door latches but I blame London M-B for using the incorrect lubricants(not M-B approved). This year I will be looking at replacing the intercooler as it is leaking, the turbo assembly due to an unreliable wastegate and hope to have the timing and oil pump chains changed. The intercooler and turbo are original, so I have no complaints on there longevity.
