Ottawa - Independant Smart Service Specialist

6 posts in this topic

Hi guys, Just wanted to give you a head's up that Ottawa now has an alternative to going to the dealership for Smart and MB related service. Klein Autowerks - 5340 Canotek Rd, Ottawa, Ontario613-747-6666kleinautowerks@gmail.comChris Klein - Owner and operator is a former technician @ Ogilvie Motors and has worked extensively on Smart's (Both the 450 Diesels and the 451 Gas models)He also worked at Mark Motors and is very familiar with Porsche and Audi. I am not associated with Klein Autowerks but thought it would be important to promote that there is now an independent alternative to the dealership!!

Thanks for the info, not that it matters to me out in BC. Please enter it in the wiki, that's the best place for it as it doesn't get buried, forgotten and un-findable like a topic thread does. Info as to whether or not they have the computer program for full diagnostic and electronic adjustments is nice to have there as well.

KLEINAUTOWERKS inc. Top in My Books!I don’t usually write reviews, but when I do I only write GOOD reviews. There is enough negativity out there, but not many people give credit when it is due. And KLEINAUTOWERKS deserves recognition. He (Chris Klein) has only been in business for a couple months, but from my experience with his service I know he will do very well in the Ottawa area.I have a 2006 smart cabrio. I have had a ton of warranty work done on the car with Star Motors. In fairness to Star they did do all the warranty work to my satisfaction (except for the air conditioning – eight services and not sure if I am done yet, but then again it is smart’s air conditioning). With my smart coming out of warranty and having a few repairs required I was getting a little frustrated at the service “experience” with the dealers. Frankly I was seriously thinking about selling my smart until I saw this post and decided to give an independent mechanic a try. From the first phone call with Chris I had a good feeling. I called Thursday and had an appointment on Friday for Oil change and have him check out a nasty noise coming from the rear end. When I walked into the garage I was met by Chris (not some service manager). First thing he said was lets go for a test drive. Show me what you are hearing/feeling with the car. Out we go. Chris behind the wheel putting my smart through the paces. Halfway up the street he says; “sounds like a rear wheel bearing”. Five minutes later we have the car up on the hoist and we (together) are looking at my smart as Chris tests the wheel tightness and then pulls out a stethoscope and listens to each wheel as he turns them. “Yup!” he replies. “You have a worn out right Rear wheel bearing, should be able to fix that today, let me check to see if I can get the parts.” I walked out the garage and looked back and I am sure I saw my smart car smiling. He was in good hands.I was halfway home on the bus when Chris calls me on my cell to let me know he can get the parts and will have my smart car ready by the afternoon. When I did return that afternoon he says; “Let’s go for a test drive!” We get into the car together, this time with me at the wheel and take a drive around the block. He explained what he did along with some other minor “tune-ups” and I concur that the noise is gone. We return to the garage, while I pay my bill (which I am sure was way less than what the dealer would have charged), we talk more about his business and smart cars in general. Driving home my smart car never felt so good. I highly recommend KLEINAUTOWERKS based on personal experience and the following:1. No Service Managers! You talk and work with Chris (the mechanic) directly. He has a personal interest in your satisfaction!2. Top Notch Garage. This garage is not a garage! It is a “man cave”. More toys and tools you can imagine. So clean you could eat off the floor. You have to see this garage to believe it. Drop in just for a visit! You will be impressed.3. Chris is an extremely personable guy, as are the others in the garage. Their passion is cars and it shows. Plus Chris is smart car trained. That’s his specialty but he also works on Mercedes and BMW. Other cars also welcome I assume.4. Excellent location! Just 5 min walk to the OCTranspo number 95 stop(s). Actually the 171 goes right past their door as well. Easy to get to off the Queensway and Montreal Road.5. He is on face book and tracks email kleinautowerks@gmail.com Ok, I know “your mileage may vary” and I am sure there will always be someone who just isn’t satisfied no matter where or who works on their car. All I can say is if you are looking for an alternative to the Dealer, and you are tired of those “big” service center run-arounds I would highly recommend you try KLEINAUTOWERKS. I know that I will be returning and from my experience I have now gained a new appreciation of my smart and hope to be able to continue driving it for many years to come.CheersImsrtru2P.S. I would be interested in hearing about other good service stories from members.
