It's a go!!!

October's Smart Car outing is on Tuesday the 01st in Port Burwell, Ontario.

Due solely to my wit, charm, vibrant personality and dashing good looks , I've successfully arranged a couple of after-hour tours of the submarine HMCS Ojibwa on display in the harbour at Port Burwell.

I brought all my powers to bare and using The Force, we have reservations for 10 people at 6:00PM and 10 more at 6:12PM.

Keep in mind their normal hours of operation in Oct/Nov are 10AM to 5PM, so the staff is staying late to accommodate us.

The tour lasts one (1) hour and costs $18.50.

Running shoes or hard-soled shoes are required. No sandals or flip-flops.

They suggest you not wear your best cloths, as the insides of the ship can be a bit grimy (so no white Smart t-shirts Glenn).

No large purses or bags and NO PHOTOGRAPHY INSIDE THE SHIP.... their rules, not mine.

They also strongly suggest that personal items be left in your car. While I was there today, someone dropped their iPhone down an 18' shaft that formerly housed a periscope.... b-by iPhone.

Our 2 tours are limited to a total of 20 people - first come, first served.

I'll be collecting money for the first tour, as I had to pay up front (see reference to 'my powers' above).

The second tour is tentative, pending enough people signing up.

Dinner will follow the tours at either The Lighthouse or Scooner's Galley, both in Port Burwell (in fact, the only restaurants).

The Lighthouse is regular restaurant fare while Scooner's is smaller and features mainly seafood. Both are licensed.

Please sign up for your preference, and I'll make the necessary reservation. Either one location will win or we can split into 2 groups if voting turns out that way.

I have to shut down the Sign-Up Sheet due to the need to inform museum administration of the total number attending.

Remember they are extending us after-hours tours, so they need to know a.s.a.p. how many staff they require.

I delayed the commitment as long as I could. I did stress initially the need to sign up early.

It looks like we will have one full tour for 10 lucky people starting at 6:00PM sharp and lasting about an hour.

Please refer to the initial post above to review the special requirements.... footwear, clothing, photos, etc.

Note - the entrance to the parking lot is not well marked. It's on the right a little before the lighthouse as you head towards the beach. You'll probably notice a big submarine-looking-thingy sitting below, beside the river.

BTW.... William and I won the restaurant voting. Actually I just found out that Scooner's is no longer open Monday or Tuesday thru till spring (surprise!), so we now have reservations at The Lighthouse Restaurant & Pub for 7PM.

If any of the claustrophobic Smarties would like to join in for dinner, you're more than welcome. It'll be a nice evening for a drive. Just let me know you're coming, for seating reasons.

It was a beautiful day for top-down driving. Spike and I went down early and spent some time on the beach soaking up some sun and counting seagulls and geese.It was nice to see some faces that have been absent in recent outings. Spike and I opted to pass on the sub tour, because she had seen it less than two months ago.Here's a couple of pictures of the sub and some of our group.
