That's right... I said it. Come! Visit!

I promise that if I see 10 CDN Smarts between now and April Fools day, I will make the trek north of the border once summer rolls around.

And I will have to try Poutine and Tim Hortons too...

...I'll even concede that Hockey really is the greatest sport on earth.

I managed to get up to BC in Oct 2004 while I was doing some work in San Francisco... I really love that part of the world... Norcal, Washington, Oregon, BC.... my heart is there.

But my body says NOOOOOO... it enjoys FL heat.

Harveys??? St Hubert????

BLAH!!! Thats not *REAL* poutine! Try some of the real fry places in Montreal! Go in and if they dont serve fries in a piece of newsprint youre in the wrong spot!

Try LaFleurs....

My disgust was directed more towards Harveys....fast food joints cannot make poutine....

St Hubert is my fave chicken place....which we seem to be lacking out here.

So to pay proper tribute to my birthplace I cut my own fries and import curd and gravy from Montreal.

my poutine is gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!

Want a hot, heart-stopping, cholesterol-filled poutine in Montreal?

Forget about St Hubert's BBQ (great gravy, but the fries are weak). The chicken topping is a nice touch, but it's just not a real poutine.

Hit-up either a franchise of La Belle Province or Lafleurs Hot Dog ? they're competing chains of greasy spoons peppered all over town. Their poutines will make even the most ardent, vegan tree-hugger forget all about organic m?sli for at least a few minutes. Top 'em with the regular gravy, or spaghetti meat sauce (? la Michigan).

Dunn's Steak House will also serve-up an awesome poutine of fries, cheese curds and gravy, topped with old-fashioned smoked meat. Check with your doctor first, it will kill you ? but it's almost worth it. :cheeky:

There are other, small, mom & pop shops around town that serve incredible poutines, but I'd have to blindfold anyone who wished to try before taking them there... the secret can't get out... ;)

My point exactly!

If you want a great poutine stay away from the "Factory" stuff...especially if you are in Montreal!!!!

I wish I had a LaFleurs steamer dog and a poutine right now!

Looks like I will be in Orlando for the last week of March. This is a business trip so mostly meetings but the drive will be a blast. This will add 2 more states to my list of 13 states already visited in my smart.

I am hoping the weather is nice there so that I can drop the top for some of it

Yup and you can meet me too. :-)

I will lock in the dates as it gets closer.

I have done several long trips in the US in my smart including to Arkansas. I love traveling in my smart car.

Don't forget the second greatest CANADIAN sport, invented right here in Perth Ontario.

That would be basketball.

I know James Naismith was Canadian, but I think it was invented while he was in the US.

James Naismith was the Canadian physical education instructor who invented basketball in 1891. James Naismith was born in Almonte, Ontario and educated at McGill University and Presbyterian Cllege in Montreal. He was the physical education teacher at McGill University (1887 to 1890) and at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts (1890 to 1895). At Springfield College (which was then the Y.M.C.A. training school), James Naismith, under the direction of American phys-ed specialist Luther Halsey Gulick, invented the indoor sport of basketball.

Bah... that's written by some American that can't stand the fact that BASKETBALL IS OURS!!! So is baseball. No, really... it is. I've got some book somewhere that shows that the whole "cooperstown" story was made up and the US government even helped cover or skew evidence that baseball was played in Canada several years prior. I read it a long time ago so I'd have to go dig up the references.

I like Lacrosse and our Canadia Geeses - that's Canadian enough for me! Lacrosse playing geese would be better.

...Or ducks. :)

Dont forget one of the finest jet powered interceptor aircraft of the time was Canadian too.

And the world's second (by 2 weeks) jet powered airliner, the Canadian Avro Jetliner. 7 years before the Boeing (US) and after the Comet (UK). It was really the first, since the Jetliner flew for over an hour and the Comet only a few minutes.

OBTW, Avro invented the word Jetliner for their plane.
