CDI to Electric Conversion

Well I'm still looking for a replacement motor for one of my 2005 450 CDI's.

So now I'm considering to convert it to an all electric version. I wont be needing the ABS, EVS, A/C or any of those added

options to bog this conversion further.

Batteries, motor, controller and charge system will be easily accomplished

Its the mechanical clutch conversion as well as the speedo, odometer retro etc. that might be problematic.

just did another search and found Dieselkiki had success with this.

Dieselkiki was a member from QC but sold his Smarts and left our group. i seem to remember that he couldn't get it licensed once he declared the conversion to the gov't.

How much do you think a used electric Smart would be IF you could buy one?

Doesn't what year it is?

I figure if there is one out there it will be more than $15K with HST

Consider a 2005 with blown motor to be worth $1500 add a conversion with new batteries....$7000 to $9000

It may be worth it ?

Off lease 451 ED are going for far less, it makes more sense to buy one of those.

I haven't seen any off lease for under $10K.

Do you have a source that you can share?

There are 15 engines available on the oara website.

Canman

Can you be more specific?

What year EV are you referring to?

I checked from 2011 to 2015 NOTHING!

not one!

Where are you getting this info from? BC?

I'm not interested in visiting 'Nanook of the north' to pick one up if that's where their listed

It was suggested that instead of going electric you simply replace your engine.

Yours is a 2005 right?

Follow the link from looselugnuts above, select 2006 smartfortwo, engine and search.

Got 15 returns.

Dieselkiki left the forum? That's too bad, he was a great member with good knowledge.

Ugh, Bill passed away... this is what happens when you leave for too long. You can come back but it may never be the same as you left. Some really good people I'm going to miss.

Sorry I can't really suggest much as for your Electric conversion, other than if it can be purchased as you want it, you should probably just do that and spend your life driving rather than reinventing the wheel.

Yes, I'm a hypocrite.
