2017 Smart Electric Drive production timeline/arrival

Been planning to replace my 450 diesel for a while now and was going to put a deposit down on a 2017 ED and make use of the recent incentive credits available for BC residents until I hit a road block...

 

As of today, 303 credits remain for BC scrap it $6,000 ev credit. Car must be delivered within 90 days of applying for the credit.

 

My source at Mercedes said their system doesn't even show any production for ED's in April/May. Even if it is updated soon for April/May production it would be July/August delivery to BC. 

 

Since $2,500 deposit is non-refundable I decided to wait until there is more information on actual production dates. 

 

Thing is by the time it is April/May I'm sure there will be no more credits left as there is only an allocation for 500 credits.... might be time to shop for another car. 

 

This was surprising to me because some other members on this forum and another forum were stating that their sales people were telling them delivery in May/June? My friend/source said that wouldn't be possible. They said they can't even order the car now if they wanted to...

Long shot and potentially expensive but can the dealer pull stock from another province, if there are any available?

They're in charge of orders for corporate and franchise stores in BC so I'm pretty sure his information applies nationally so given that it looks like the earliest anyone would get one is July 2017 but I would love to be proven wrong.

My dealer kept slipping the dates.  Started out being march, and ended up being August...

 

Then I went and ordered a Bolt and got my money back.

I'm sitting on the fence for now. Next week go to see Dr. and then have eye exam to try and get licence back. If I succeed then we resume driving the Munchkin. Been sitting since my accident (fall) in October. Long sad story. If I fail car goes back to dealer to get rid of and maybe a 17 if I pass later and retest. My vision is the issue now. Grr.

Since the Bolt is now out and you have one on order I'm going look to look forward to hearing all about it. Please keep us posted. Just in case the Smart brand totally leaves North America. It likely will not happen but....

The only thing about the Bolt here in Ontario is that you order it without a test drive.   The dealers in my area (GTA) do not have them, and have no timeframe to get them.  Order to delivery is 2-3 months.

I was able to test drive a Bolt at the Autoshow, as did many others.  I suspect those are the ones snapping up the cars.

When I get mine, you can come by for a test drive if you'd like!

Well family Dr said forget about as I have to be free of seizures for a year. Ministry form stated my fall was from a seizure because ER Dr said that. Apparently I have to be free for a year. Today was eye test. Oops, failed that too.

So bottom line is my 2016 ED is available for lease. 15 months left to go. Anyone interested can contact me. Under. 10k on it. It's a passion with cruise.

Great!   I'll have to take my wife's Tesla to your place, my Smart ED couldn't make it round trip from the east end of GTA to the west end where you live LOL!   DOH!

Well medically it has been determined I can't drive  anymore. So my 2016 Passion with 9,700 km on it is up for grabs. Lease expires July 1 next year. All black with cruise control. Hoping to get a 2017 IF I pass retesting. No fun being disabled. Car sitting in garage still..  Lease is cheap at $193.20 a month.
