Won't Start/3 Bars

2008 Smart For Two Passion. Just purchased from original owner. My wife parks it at home after shopping. Turns car off. We get in to run some errands and cannot shift out of Park and car wont start. Three Horizontal Bars showing with beeps. follow Teach in procedure in the manual with no affect.. Noo one locally works on them Nearest dealer 89 miles away.

Has the battery ever been replaced in the car?

Do you know how long ago that was?  Otherwise it may be a wiring issue at or near the transmission or clutch actuator.
