4 Rib or 5 Rib Alternator belt?

Recently had the belt snap in my 06 CDi. I didn't see that coming! Alternator is in good shape and I have no idea why it happened. Went to Parts Source for the belt and they offered 2 types for this car. A 4 rib, that they had in stock, for $15 and the 5 rib which had to be ordered in at $27. So I went with the 4 rib and it is working fine for now.

I suspect the 5 rib should last longer because of the extra material but then when I noticed the design of the 4 rib they were not continuous grooves. They have short diagonal grooves intersecting the rib design. It looks like an improved design with a better wear factor.  Made by Continental called the 'Elite Poly V Belt' with quiet technology
