Hi Cora!  Seems like ages since we were at your place in Kingman.  Well 10 years anyway....

 

My wild guess is a roof strut end on the soft top.  Check for weird bulges outside and see whether it seems to be from there.  But I really have no idea.

It is certainly a genuine Smart part since the mystery part has a Smart part number.   Cannot help more than that as I have never seen that part and mine is also a Cabrio.

Have been searching all over the interior including the Cabrio roof but could not see that part anywhere. 

Is it rubber or plastic?  Could it be some stop for the seat rails?

Did you try googling the Part Number that is on it? I've done this on obscure items and found results.
