extra wires on headlight

7 posts in this topic

I'm sure someone asked this already. But I can't seem the find an old topic about it.

I am tinkering with my 06 cdi while I am waiting for my new starter to arrive, so I removed the nose cone just to see what's behind it.

In the back of the headlights is what seems to be a second light socket with 2 wires attached to it that are just sealed in black heat shrink tube

Any idea what this is for?

In Europe those are wired up for the turn signal.

When Mercedes brought the smart to Canada the turn signal was deemed as being too close to the headlights and made them relocate them to the ''fog light'' position.

Many have rewired back to the original.

They are much brighter if yellow bulbs are installed and look correct imho.    I'm sure Glenn has already done this to my Smart.

The correct bulbs should already be in the Euro turn signal location.  It just needs to have the wires reconnected.

So I assume this harness is for driving lights? There is one on each side.

Correct!

Then if the turn signals are returned to the headlights fog lights could be installed.
