Filter housing is around £22 from dealer.

I’ve owned and serviced Smart cars now for twenty years and have never seen a seized filter housing nor have I broken one myself.

I have come to the conclusion that those that state theirs are seized or have broken theirs must be particularly inept and clumsy.

One of the ''techs'' at the local smart centre would use vise grips to remove the plastic housing causing the corners to round off - that caused issues.

A lot of diy people don't have the proper tools.

Dare i say it....a sharp flat blade screwdriver and start again...lol     Something i had to do once when I was in my 20's on an old Jeep I bought.....what a nightmare!   I agree with Glenn.....people use the easiest tools they can reach to do the job with, even if it's the right one or not.....OR they are too cheap to buy the correct tool for the job.   Smart's as Tolsen says plays heavily into it too....lol
I bet you can get a good used one from Uncle Glenn for a very reasonable price......

Ebay?  I'm not sure if the cap is shared with any other model.

If yours is leaking a bit take the seal out, clean it, and refit the seal the other way around.  Works well for me.
