Identify my 450 smart fortwo 2005 engine

4 posts in this topic

Hello all. I am in desperate need of some education on Smart fortwo. I purchased a c2 Trike Tec /Rad Roadster. It has a 3 cly 698cc, gas, turbocharged engine. It has a VIN# from trike tec of W09TRC21352T45016

it has a sticker with a bar code # 2521  0012521  0014  162  0114  01  4

It has a number etched on the engine block where the starter goes into the engine block 111G2G3G4G ( I THINK THE G2= THE PURE MODEL)

ON THE ENGINE BLOCK IT HAS A # R1600100805

CAN NOT FIND PARTS AND CANT CROSS REFERENCE AT ANY PARTS  PLACES.   HELP... THANK YOU

That's a gasoline engine so you need to contact smart in Europe.  And they may not be able to help either if the number on the block is cast and not cold chiselled.

The 700 petrol is moderately common over here, have one myself.  Parts are freely available this side of the water.  The 700 fortwo engine came in 4 outputs.  50BHP in the Pure, 61 in the Pulse and Passion, 80 odd in the Brabus, and 101 in some special edition Brabus models.  The difference between 50 and 61 is simply the cycle valve, which is an easy retro fit.  The 80 and 101s had different cams, harder valves, different intercooling, and all sorts of minor tweaks to make them reliable.

There theres the same basic 700cc engine fitted to the Roadster in a host of different specs and tunes all of their own.

Smart in Europe will be your best bet for identifying the motor, if they're willing to help.
