Diesel Injector Nozzle Replacement

76 posts in this topic

The nozzles can indeed be replaced and their price is well within reach about £50 each.

Obviousy it is important that right type nozzle is fitted and that is part of the reasons for starting this thread.

There are several videos on youtube where mechanics, both DIYs and "professionals", some having doubtful knowledge about injectors, explain in detail how these nozzles are replaced.

Here is one that thinks he knows how it is done.  Rather unsmart of him in my humble opinion to lap in mating surfaces using sand paper.  Watch, learn and enjoy:

Please show me where you get the correct nozzles for our Smarts for this price.....IF they are correct....I'll buy a set! ...Hmmm...?

More comic relief for your enjoyment....all back yard type mechanics....if it works all well and good.....but personally I can't see it working correctly after punching a wire through the nozzle holes...lol.   But lets not forget lapping in those two perfectly aligned hardened surfaces....lol....Hmmmm....?
It's up to you, you think you can do the job, have a go, BUT be prepared to spend $$$ on a new injector IF you do mess it up....just saying.   I did it so it can't be that difficult......lol.    Just use your head and it can be done without ruining things....common sense.....use it. Along with some experience working with your hands.

We need nozzle part number and tightening torque.

That is the $64,000 question isn't it....the part number which is correct.....mender is the guy who found where to buy them and as far as I know the only one who has bought the correct nozzles for our specific injectors...and far more money than what you quoted, by the time it reached our shores etc.  I did or do have those part numbers somewhere and if I find the time I'll search for them.....the number is common but the adjoining letters are different and that is what makes it difficult  from what I found. I spent days searching for the correct ones without success.  You need an "in" with the injector business to find them I think....?

Isn't the correct tightening torque, simply.....TIGHT...!......lol

DSLA 155 P865 is the number Willys gave me off his nozzles but I haven’t found them on the internet yet.  I guess a trip to a Bosch shop may be required.

The hard part of that number is the first 4 letters I found....and I think it's because bosch has an agreement not to see them to the public...?  That's why I think Mender could get them being a engine builder himself.

But I am going on my memmory  and that's bad for details now a days...lol.   You can easily find a nozzle with the last  7 digits, not the first 4.

I've found the rignt type injector nozzle on ebay UK for around £50 each but I am not convinced they are genuine Bosch.  Therefore I may as well buy non genuine nozzles from China for much less.

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/nozzle-DSLA155P863-common-rail-nozzle-DSLA155P863_62233147839.html

Unsure if above link works.  Minimum order is 6 nozzles and total price for 6 including air mail delivery is £85.

Identification: DSLA155P863 stamped on nozzle.  Bosch nozzle part number 0 433 175 231.  Should fit Bosch injectors 0445110022 and 0445110023.

Hole size and spray pattern from what I was told....everything must be the same, and I wasn't using anything but Bosch either  if I remember correctly....sorry I am not taking out my injectors just to have a look......unless I am forced to ...lol.  I have another set of injectors that I can see what they say....but I expect many of us, tolson would also have a set to play with as a spare no?  I have 5 I think.   Why even think about changing any numbers if these are the ones we need...?  Like I said it was the Letters that were hard to get correct the numbers were easy.  I think the letters had something to do with the spray pattern....?   It's been a while since I had to look for them....and I forget things fast if i do not deal with things all the time....old age....or abuse...lol.

Also at 50 pounds times 3 is getting close to what I paid for my exact copies after exchange and shipping etc etc.....

Sorry I am suffering with neck pain from over doing it a few days ago....

Those aren't correct they even have the wrong DLLA stamped on the side of them....should be DSLA designation..

I just ordered 3 nozzles from AliExpress for £52.77 including shipping. May take a while before the nozzles arrive, obviously not this year.

Seller has good feedback for shipping speed and appears to be a diesel specialist whilst seller on AliBaba is just a merchant.

That put me off but the photos may of course just be typical photos of nozzles.  I would have bought from that seller had there been a proper specification to give more confidence that what he is selling is right ones.

I bought from AliExpress and those have right stamping and specification although I have no idea what the plus (+) at end of stamping signifies.

I remember someone said something about that + designation but I don't remember what.....maybe tomorrow my head will be better and I'll go back and see if i can find those videos I watched about making and rebuilding injectors.....if I can find them again on the web.

Do you own a sonic cleaner to soak the body in...?   It took a while to get them perfectly clean, many short soaks watching constantly to make sure I wasn't harming the body parts.  I also did one at a time....just in case...lol

I'm not sure how you could get them clean without a sonic cleaner.....spray maybe?  Of some kind?  Then you may damage the top parts?  Everything comes apart.....but I still didn't let top electronics get dipped.

I will simply clean the injectors externally using own elbow grease and cheapest penetration oil.

Will clean collar nut prior to reassembly.

Plan to clean mating surface of injector body using existing nozzle by twisting nozzle without pins and spring then flush clean with penetration oil. This is very much similar to how I cleaned high pressure pump.

Required torque now required. No urgent but will soon be needed.

45 Nm has been suggested. If I get no certified confirmation of correct torque, I will mark each injector and measure torque and angle turn required to turn nut until marks align.

Does the + signify an improved atomising nozzle having 7 jets instead of the standard 5?
