Replacement tires for 15" Brabus Rims

6 posts in this topic

I don't need replacement tires yet for my 15" brabus rims but its a matter of time. Right now I suspect the driver side rear tire which I pumped to 29psi several weeks ago but today was at 22-23psi whereas the other tires were between 26-28psi.

My understanding is that the rims are 5 inches wide on the front and 6 inches wide on the rear.

Right now the 15" Brabus rims are wearing tires which are:

145/65 72T

175/55 77T

As per evilution the ideal tire width is 165 or 175mm on the 5" wide fronts and 185 or 195mm on the 6" wide rears.

https://www.evilution.co.uk/index.php?menu=wheels&mod=585

Any suggestions as to what profile to go with for 175mm on the front and 195mm on the rears? Looking at the stock tire sizes on evilution it would look like 175/55 is the standard for the fronts but its not clear re 6" wide rears. Maybe 195/50 or 195/45 or 195/40?

Send a PM to Glenn (smart142) and ask him what is on the rear of his car.  He has the 175/55 on the front and I believe it may have been something like 205/50 or 45 on the rear.  It looks real smart (pun intended).  I’m sure it kills the fuel economy but should really help the handling.

Yes sir that Smart of Glenn's looks great, surprising what a fat set of tires does for the looks not to mention the handling I bet!   But, I'm still stuck on that magical low low fuel numbers.....usually below 3.5lts per hundred driven.......just love it.   IF the car had more get up and go I'd also be after handling....lol

i had 185/55 r15 on all four

the fronts rubbed a bit i had to trim off some plastic near the front

i dont know what brabus rim offset is but i used rears from a 451 for the front of my 450

the important part to watch is the diameter or circumference percentage difference ..if i remember right there is just a 3% or 5% margin before it causes problems with the traction control/stability system

I would go for Vredestein Quatrac 5 tires in sizes 185/55R15 82H rear and 165/60R15 77H front.

Vredestein Quatrac 5 185/55R15 82H

Vredestein Quatrac 5 165/60R15 77H

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Vredestein&tireModel=Quatrac+5&partnum=66HR5QT5&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

Tire pressures of 26psi rear and 21psi front would give the best comfort, 32psi rear and 26psi front would give the best handling, and 29psi rear and 23psi front would be the best compromise. 26psi rear and 21psi front may seem low, but it's enough pressure with these load index tires to support the weight of a fully loaded Smart 450. With 175/55R15 rear tires and 145/65R15 front tires you would need 29psi rear and 23psi front tire pressures as a minimum to support the weight of a fully loaded Smart 450.

Thanks for the suggestions. Glenn is using 175/55  & 190/50 Continentals.  I’ll likely go that route.
