Side marker lights bulbs replacement

10 posts in this topic

Hello from Salt spring Island, British Columbia, Canada.

I just bought a nice 2005 Smart for two Pulse (W450) The bulbs need to be replaced in the side marker lights; what is the recommended way to do it?

Fronts are  "90° turn and pull" and rears are remove the rear end or remove inner fender and go in from the wheel well

Hint #1 - When doing the front side marker, don't drop the little black plug end into the hole.  It's a real P.I.T.A. to retrieve.

Hint #2 -  When reinstalling the front ones, smear a little grease or Vaseline around the rubber.  This will make it much easier to remove if replacement is needed again.

Most people replace the fronts with LED discs, and never worry about replacing a bulb again. There are elliptical LEDs that are a fit for the rears as well, if I'm not mistaken.

I had to replace my rear fenders after some body damage, and I opted to not replace the "pods".

The fronts are just semitruck marker lights, sealed units, you need to replace the whole light assembly.
