· #1 Posted May 22, 2022 · Report post Has anyone had a problem with the windscreen when closing the door. We've just bought a smart for2 and when you close the doors the windscreen pops up and the wipers pop up.
· #2 Posted May 22, 2022 · Report post EEK!!!!!!!!!! Do you mean the windscreen is not fastened to the car?
· #3 Posted May 22, 2022 · Report post Well it's a bit strange. It is fastened to the car, but when you slam the door the windscreen looks to be popping along the bottom. I've pressed it and it's solid everywhere but it moves slightly along the bottom. I was just going to seal it but just wondered if anyone else had the same problem. 🤔
· #4 Posted May 22, 2022 · Report post Put some water along the seal at the bottom and see if it comes out when you shut the door. If it does then you need to remove the windscreen and fit it properly. Presumably it does not do this if either of the windows or other doors are open. · #5 Posted May 22, 2022 · Report post Fairly common on the 450s over here. Proper fix is to have the glass removed and reinstalled. Nigel 2 people like this
· #6 Posted May 22, 2022 · Report post Yes it's only when the windows are fully up that it does it. I've run some windows sealant along the inside and outside of the window, fingers crossed that should sort it. If not it'll be going in for a new windscreen. No wonder it was cheap! · #8 Posted May 22, 2022 (edited) · Report post Both of mine did this, my beater was the worst, it did the very same thing and once I removed rubber it was able to lift the glass up over 1/2" . Yes it leaked like a siv...lol. I have tried to reseal it using silicon but it never completely sealed. It's my beater, so I finally simply trowled on enough silicon to cover rubber seal from glass to metal....now it seals. Not something you want to do to a car you like. My good car I did the correct thing and replaced glass and had it professionally re sealed using the correct adhesive. I also found plenty of rusting along the bottom of the beater's windshield and plenty of rusting under the carpeting. Hence it's my beater. · #9 Posted May 22, 2022 · Report post If it's not professionally resealed, the SAM will likely be water damaged (maybe it already is) and that's a big problem.

· #11 Posted May 22, 2022 (edited) · Report post From Google SAM stands for Signal Acquisition Module. A SAM module (also called Signal Actuation Module) receives data from sensors, switches, and controllers, and can send data, actuate (activate) components and monitor systems. Also being from Mercedes it is very expensive if you need a new one so fix the leak. Nigel Edited May 22, 2022 by Nigel 1 person likes this
· #12 Posted May 23, 2022 · Report post OK, seeing as you haven't heard of this magic box, research it here and see how to remove it and open it up to look inside, it's easy if you can hold a screw driver or a wrench, no offense, many can not. There is a row of pins that have issues and there are fixs etc to deal with these issues. So search SAM and SAM relay mods. Mainly for headlights and fuel pump in the tank that is(low pressure pump)....simplish fixes or mads and repairs. That is as long as it hasn't been ages left un-serviced etc after maybe a lighting issue or fuel pump issue and the plugs or circuit board has damage done to it. IF your SAM is damaged enough to require a new one, you can buy a good used one but you will require the use of a STAR diagnostic computer to teach the old computers to speak to the newly aquired SAM. There is the speedo and the ECU that require introducing to the new to you SAM. Without this the car will never run. Sorry. BUT, first get your SAM down and peek inside it, no sweat, easy. · #13 Posted May 23, 2022 · Report post There's no need to open the SAM unless the car has oddball electrical problems. Definitely do the external relay modifications.

I disagree, better to know what you are dealing with than have to go back in afterwards. If the SAM is perfectly fine then he doesn't need to touch it but far better to know IF it looks like it has the typical issues known caused by the SAM and like you say can easily do all the relay mods to stop further possibilities. IMHO, it's simply routine preventative maintenance. To each their own, if you take care not to damage it and there is no reason you would if you take your time and don't go in with 12" flat screw driver etc....you'll be fine. Plus.....we all know if the windshield has been leaking , there is a strong chance the SAM will show signs of water ingress ...no....? You are the one who brought up looking at the SAM, weren't you..?
· #15 Posted May 23, 2022 · Report post my coupe did this....i never noticed until winter when closing the door would produce a puff of snow all along the bottom outside edge of the windshield i simply waited for a warm day ...used compressed air and brake cleaner to clean what i could and carefully pushed from the inside bottom with one fist as i injected some fresh urethane into the part of the seal that was detached...it worked just fine to secure it 1 person likes this
