Info on recharging my A/C

3 posts in this topic

Can anyone point me to a guide to recharging the airconditioner for my 2014 Smart ED? I've located the fill port on the passenger side in the front of the car (in the fluids/maintenance area), but I don't see an easy way to access it, even with my medium sized hands.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site and club....
As for recharging the A/C, that depends upon why it needs recharging I expect.  I used to use those small cans with their adapters etc in the past with so so results. I have since realized it's usually better to take it in to a shop that has a machine that can test, clean, purge and refill your A/C.  To each their own.  There usually is 2 pots for the A/C on the lines under the front clip or body work. One will be intake or charge if I remember right it's the smaller one, do not hold me to it.  Your year and model may be completely different. You can buy the refill kits at most auto parts stores like autozone etc from what I have seen. Not sure what they are worth below the border but I expect far less than ours here above that magical line...augh! It's pretty easy once you have found the correct port, you simply join adapter to it and fill correct amount of liquid into your system.  I have learned NOT to add too much....more is not best in this case.    Sorry I can't be of more help, I personally do not like A/C.

I strongly suggest you try another site called Evilution.uk.co and pay their smallest donation so you can get the deepest information saved there. It's cheap.  There is a fantastic wealth of knowledge with pictures usually for almost every issue.  Just my bent nickle's worth....you may be surprised.

OR you can wait and see what other's have to offer as there will be members here who will do their best to try and help.

Do a search on removing the body panels for the smart 451.  You will find many videos and I think the bumper cover will come off in about five minutes. Then you will have all kinds of room for your hands.
