Door Hinge Out of Alignment

3 posts in this topic

I've got a 2010 Smart Highstyle Limited Edition that I bought a couple of weeks ago. I noticed that the passenger door is out of alignment and creaks when it closes. Not sure of that's an indication of a bad hinge or just needing some adjustment to re-align the door..? I'm not very handy on repairs and feel if I take it into a shop I might get fleeced for a minor repair. I feel that it just needs to get re-adjusted as opposed to having the hinge replaced. Car doors are notoriously noted for going out of alignment during windy days. Have others experienced this and what have you tried for a solution..?

I'd wait for the warmer weather and until then add a good helping of lube to help with the motion of the mechanics.

No way I'd take it in unless it's a structural issue...but that's just me.  Hinges can be adjusted, shimmed and tweaked easily to help get the door gaps etc correct, even after a good bang things can be adjusted to fit....so again no way I'd be taking it in to get fleased as you put it!

Lubricate the heck out of it when you get a chance.  This should remove the "creaking".  As for the alignment, IF it needs to be re-aligned, ask on this site for help.  There are several people in the south-western Ontario area that could help
