Hastings Racecourse Show and Shine for October 1st and 2nd

139 posts in this topic

Hi gang!

I am an employee of Great Canadian Casinos ( http://www.greatcanadiancasinos.com/ ), and I am working on a "Show and Shine" event for Smart 42s at our Hastings Racecourse facility to be held on Sunday, September 25th 2005. So far, I have secured the Marquee tent and arranged for a cash BBQ and bar. Smart 42s will be able to pull straight in the West gate and arrange on the Racetrack!

I just received confirmation from our Marketing department that this can go forward, so I am sending out messages and emails to get this thing rolling.

I am hoping to be able to get our Lower Mainland smart reps to mail out invitations to all smart owners, and perhaps help out in other ways.

I plan on contacting the Federal government to gain participation of representatives for the "One Tonne Challenge" ( http://www.climatechange.gc.ca/onetonne/english/ ), and approaching Mayor Larry Campbell to see if he can participate.

Anyone know Rick Mercer?

I would love to hear your ideas on this exciting event!

Now this is what I'm talking about! I know I mentioned a show, shine and BBQ for August, but if we can all work together and do this on the same weekend in September, that would be awesome!

So... can we have races on the racecourse?

How does the casino idea interact with this event? -Thanks

Well, Marketing really wanted to do something for the Racecourse facility. I was thinking we could all do a convoy down to River Rock afterwards. If we can get enough people involved, I may be able to get a "Casino Experience" doorprize for the event.

Let me know how I can help out. I'm far too busy until August, but you've got me for all of August if you need me. This should be fun and we have enough time to really make a good showing of this!

I don't know if Christie is on this forum or not... but if you are - this would be a GREAT time for a rematch!! Lol... I'll be making a fool of myself, but it would be an awesome chance to showcase the 65HP pink menace! And I figured, since we have history you can kick my arse again. lol. Mind you, I am up around the 50hp range now, so it won't be AS pathetic.

s mack, maybe my gf can take you on with her cdi65 widebody cabrio; or NA1-T can have his gf doing the same. Of course, Christy may join-in. You might enjoy to have 3 girls dropping the hammer on you all at the same time.

NOW YOU'RE TALKING!!!!

But first I should decal the @#!$ out of mine so it looks like a souped up racing version! build a cardboard blower for the "hood" and stick a wheelie bar on the back. Just for laughs from the crowd.

Enthusiast42: I'll be calling Amy tomorrow!

S_mack and FastEddy: I was hoping that you guys would be interested in this. Perhaps when we have the details nailed down, you guys could send emails to your smart 42 clients? I would hope that you guys come out to promote your shops!

PS: remember that it is a dirt track. You guys should mount those huge wings on your roofs!

lol

When you say "dirt"... is it "oh that'll rinse right off" kind of dirt or "that'll scratch the crap out of my car" kind of dirt?

I'd like to email my customer list - but that might violate my own privacy policies, unless I offered special discounts for the event!

Your drag opportunity may come early this Sunday at the German Car Fest.

I thought there will be a club show and shine in August already. I've got my name in with the Mercedes Club.

The dirt would be the hot, sticky, smelly type of stuff that you'll find on a farm. Shoot it up with your tire and stick it on your grille and windshield would look interesting.

lol

It's typical horse track mulch. Relatively clean, well groomed medium-pack. You'll be okay, I promise. You probably don't want to race around the track though!

Well, ok but no car. We can all run around making smart engine noises and shifting like mad.

So no word from smart/Mercedes yet, but I did get the following email from the local OTC rep:

----- Original Message -----

From: Fournier, Amy

To: 'Ian'

Subject: RE: September 25th Smart car rally at Hastings Racecourse

Hey Ian, sounds very interesting and fun. Thanks for the email. We can chat some more about how the OTC can be involved (at the very least I can get you materials) and I'd love to brainstorm with you about ideas for the event. As for the mayor or councillors attending, you have to contact them and ask - mayorandcouncil@vancouver.ca.

If you have time, give me a call on Tuesday.

Good luck with all the planning and have a great weekend,

Amy

Things are coming along - smart, the OTC people and GCC are getting pretty excited about this - check out this email:

Hi Ian

I spoke of your idea( Smart Car Rally) at the Marketing meeting and they all thought that it was brilliant; they want to move up the mark and make this a really interesting event.

GGC is interested in buying a smart car to give away in a contest, building a large promotion around that give away.

Is there any way to invite Smarties from Vancouver island, Okanogan and Washington state, creating a whole package two day event around it.

Ideas:

Saturday night Party in tugs, parking all along the front of RRCR or Boulevards

Slow drive down Robson & around Stanley Park on Sunday morning meet at Hastings for 11am

Park in formation at Hasting race course ? for an afternoon of horse racing BBQ rally with the mayor of Vancouver

Excellent! Keep up the great work. Sounds fantastic. Now the question is, do we get free carwashes afterwards ;-)

Nicely done!

Steve, don't tell me you are bored with your car already? You have it all kitted out now!

By the way, I'm not sure if I should thank you or curse you for that computer. Since Dean has installed it, he hasn't had an opportunity to drive the car. I've been driving it since he has installed it, and now he is keeping very close tabs of my driving habits!

Seriously though, the computer statistics are very cool. It's really nice to know what's going on with the car while you are driving it, and afterwards as well.
