List of UAG/Penske smart USA model 451 (2008 ->) dealers

85 posts in this topic

It's a little scary. We have many unconfirmed. As 2008 arrives some of these may in fact not pan out. They may not come to a final agreement with Penske and some of us may have to look to another city...or state!

Look what just went up at the San Francisco Mercedes-Benz dealer. This was the test drive site for Bay Area reservation holders and I'm so glad it's going to be a smart dealer. While I live in Oakland, I work only two blocks from this dealership. I finally have an excuse to check out all the other cars I can't afford.

Check out the poster in the upstairs showroom.

I wonder if November will be the month that we begin to see the buyer and the dealership actually hook up and finalize the deal? As I recall the Penske people said this would occur in the 4th quarter. Boy that would be a kick if things started sooner than later. :drool3:

The smart center in Seattle is now listed on the O'Brien Group website. You can call their toll-free number 877-562-7436) and press 7 to be connected. Not much happening there yet but at least there's a phone # & a human being, Ethan, who's in charge. Haven't spoken with him yet but will soon.

I drove by there last Sunday and the building looks about the same as it did when the road show was there. No signs yet.....

Sorry about the bad list format...wasn't sure how to code it. :dunno: smart dealershipssmart USA will open about 70 dealerships in 2008. Approximately two thirds of the dealerships will be “store in store” concepts with existing Mercedes-Benz dealerships. These stores will have a wall separating the brands and will have a separate entrance, sales and service staffs. The balance of the stores will be stand-alone facilities.Consumers will experience a unique retail experience. Dealerships will share aspects of their European sister stores. A black façade will wrap around the building and a large smart sign will be placed above the door. Inside the dealership the floor will be white tile and walls will also be white with yellow and black accents. All dealership staff will reflect the brand and embody the smart enthusiast’s forward thinking attitude. Staff will be certified as smart specialists and will have undergone extensive product knowledge training. All staff will have a focus on the smart customer service and satisfaction.smart USA will open dealerships in the following United States metropolitan areas:Birmingham, Alabama Albuquerque, New Mexico Phoenix, Arizona Albany, New York Los Angeles, California Buffalo, New York Sacremento, California New York City, New York San Diego, California Charlotte, North Carolina San Francisco, California Winston-Salem, North Carolina San Jose, California Cleveland, Ohio Denver, Colorado Columbus, Ohio Hartford, Connecticut Tulsa, Oklahoma Jacksonville, Florida Portland, Oregon Miami, Florida Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Orlando, Florida Pittsburg, Pennsylvania Tampa, Florida Providence, Rhode Island Atlanta, Georgia Charleston, South Carolina Chicago, Illinois Knoxville, Tennessee Indianapolis, Indiana Austin, Texas Kansas City, Kansas Dallas, Texas Louisville, Kentucky Houston, Texas Baltimore, Maryland San Antonio, Texas Boston, Massachusetts Salt Lake City, Utah Detroit, Michigan Virginia Beach, Virginia Minneapolis, Minnesota Seattle, Washington Jackson, Mississippi Washington DC St. Louis, Missouri Milwaukee, Wisconsin Omaha, Nebraska Las Vegas, Nevada

Wayne,Thanks for the list. Interesting how it only mentions major cities and not some of the smaller ones. I know for a fact that a dealership is redesigning their building to include the smart in Edison, NJ. Regina:)

Regina - that is why the phrase Metropolitan areas is used. LA will have several locations, as will Chicago, New York, etc.

Just curious...Does anyone know if Alaska or Hawaii will be getting a Smart dealer (since they weren't included in the tour)?I would think the Cabrio would be a hit in Hawaii.-Tom L.

They won't be getting dealers for now. Possibly in the future, but I don't think we will see any there for at least a few years.

This was a passage from a link I found.

In addition to large markets like New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, Schembri said Smart will also sell the ForTwo in some areas you wouldn't normally consider — like Omaha, Neb.; Jackson, Miss.; and Louisville, Ky. Credit the brand's website, where Smart has already taken more than 30,000 reservations for the car at $99 a pop. Consumer interest came across broader regions than Smart first considered — including Hawaii and Alaska, which will get Smart dealerships "at some point," Schembri said.

Article Here: (Hope I formatted properly)blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2007/11/smart-fortwo-50.htmlBut, yeah, Smarts would do well in Hawaii. Some rich so-and-so is bound to start trying to snatch some up, even if they're leftover 'conversion' models, and fly/ship some to Hawaii, if that already hasn't happened.

Wayne,Thanks for the map of dealerships! Unfortunately, I can't print the whole thing because it's a snap shot and not the actual map. I can only get the west coast to print. Can you help a sister out???Thanks again,Regina

Hey Regina,When I access the image, I just click on the snapshot/thumbnail that's displayed on the overall posts page, and it opens the full image in another Internet Explorer window. But, I still have to hover my cursor over the map image, and I get a little magnifying glass, which I click and then get the full size image.Your setup may work a step or two differently, but if you're logged in, all you should have to do is click on the blurry snapshot image and it should bring up the full image.Hope that helps. I'm still new to the posting game, and my HTML knowledge could fit in the little wheelbarrow you get with a Monopoly board game. :smirk: See ya!--------------------------------Oops! I think I realize what you mean now, Regina. When I got the image up in IE7 and put up my print preview, I still had to tell it to print in landscape mode, and I also had to tell it to shrink the image size to "50%", because the "Shrink to Fit" setting cut off the NY area dealers.Oh well, amateur tools, amateur efforts = so-so results. :sniffle: See ya, again!

I've never been one to have trouble admiting when I'm wrong so I'm not going to start now.Yes, there will be a dealership in Omaha, Nebraska. I was able to confirm today that Performance Chrysler Jeep Dodge at I-80 and Harrison will be the Smart dealer for Omaha. Following-up on a rumor from this very news group that Omaha’s dealer will be a Dodge dealer I went out this afternoon and visited all Dodge dealers in town. My second stop proved successful. I was shown the section of the existing build that was framed off where construction is currently under way. I learned the planned opening is mid-December with first deliveries mid-January. Someone from Smart USA is apparently coming over the next few weeks to finalize the details. I was told advertising and reservation holder communication is ready to go, but nothing can go out until the official announcement is made. This is not far from my house so I’ll plan on stopping by over the coming months. Very exciting!!! Omaha is starting to feel like a big city!

Well here goes my first post. So has anyone really looked at the map and us poor folks from Montana? Not only do we not have a dealer in the state but there is not even a dealer in a neighboring state. My dealer will be in Seattle Wa. 550 miles away! Maybe we should have a contest to see who will be the farthest away from a dealer in the US?

Good for you, getting a smart despite the distance! At one time I was 400 miles from the nearest dealer for my Peugeot (now there are none). It worked out OK.

I was wondering maybe you can purchase one in Seattle, but any service that has to be performed, have it done in Canada.

At least address this question to Smart USA and see what they have to say about this. Maybe some kind of arrangement can be made. Do you know who your closest Smart Canadian dealer is?
