Is it just me or did most of you guys know that if you need to downshift to the best gear to quickly accelerate to pass someone or get out of a jam, you can press the gas pedal all the way down and you get a click / switch that puts down shifts it into what ever it needs.

I had no idea about this. I find that if you play with it a bit you can really use it smoothly too.

Try it with the car off, you can feel the switch. I had no idea.

Only car I know that allows me 3 ways to downshift and any giving time.

I don't think that button is there on the Pure model. I read about it in the manual even before I had received my car, but I could never get stomping the gas to have any effect on my gear. I don't really find using my hand to downshift troubling anyway, and most of the time I don't even need to change gears to pass someone regardless. smile.gif

Only cars equipped with softouch (automatic) have it. So yeah, Pure and Pulse don't have it stock.

I never have only because I cringe at the thought of a 3cyl diesel flying
to pieces rev limiter or no, so unless a Freightliner is bearing down on me at
100K plus I suppose I'll just sit & wait behind this city bus, thanks! wink.gif

I rarely do this.
I've found with the European 451's (rental cars on vacation), with their different transmissions (different from the North American transmission and similar to the old 450 trans) its like a hare trigger - it downshifts when you barely touch the pedal. I find it quite annoying.

I forced a few auto downshifts in my time, but it's not particularly great. If you do it right, you go down TWO gears. I also think in manual mode it will also down shift?

I rarely use auto mode, and I've never experienced an "auto-down-shift" when matting the pedal in manual mode.
