451 Rpm Vs Speed

Here are some indicated speeds and rpm's I observed today while in 5th (top) gear. Note that I have not verified the speeds via GPS. 80 kph (50 mph) = 2,200 rpm90 kph (56 mph) = 2,500 rpm100 kph (62 mph) = 2,900 rpm

So an unlimited car might be persuaded to go a tad over 200 km/h, with some major mods (or mega-downhill).

The US smart has a longer 5th gear, so you have lower revs on the highway. We have about 3100 rpm at 100 km/h

How accurate is the speedometer? The car is limited to 145Km/h but I have had mine up to an indicated 160.

so a slightly taller gear ratio drops it 200rpm at 100km/h?

Yes, and i think the top speed is about 4200 rpm in stead of 4500 rpm.

Red line on the 451 is 6,400 rpm but don't no if you can get there in 5th gear.

Not in 5th ;-) The weird thing about the auto transmission mode: when you give full throttle, it stays in 4, when you are driving the top speed.
