Yep, roadster steelies. They look good on the car. I need to acquire the moon discs though... The full wheel cover looks a tiny bit lame.

I was going to put a day permit on the car today and put 50 kms on each set of wheels and get the battery back to to snuf, but alas, I am under the weather..... so I just ran it at 2,000 RPM for 10 minutes yesterday. That should do for a couple weeks.

Yeah, I have the Roadster rims too for summers & couldn't wait to get the moon hubcaps on....the full covers are sitting in my garage somewhere, they will go cheap.

I put a day permit on the canada1 so I can burn off a half tank of diesel and get the battery back up to snuff, it was getting a little bit low, not totally depleted, but it needs a real drive. I usually get it up to operating temp in the underground every month and put it through a few gear changes, but that's not enough to keep the battery happy long term.

In the process of putting my summers on. only this time I didn't stop at the wheels.
Got the passenger side stripped down to the spindle soon the bus will have new front bearings and brakes,
not a day too soon as it cost me $75 in fuel to go 450 km in the Tacoma.... angry.gif

I don't remember, but I guess there is no electrical outlet so you can plug in a battery minder? The one I got this winter is wonderful - small and smart. I've wired the pigtail to the battery, and the charger is compact enough to leave under the seat and plug into the pass-through cable as needed.

How do you mean differant? I'm asking because I've got a set of 195/50r15 Bridgestone Potenzas around and was tempted to try them on the smart when my summer tires wear out.

As an alternative....if you already have a pig tail on your car battery. Make a very short set of light gauge "jumper cables" that mate up to the pig tail and have the proper polarity.

Would it then work to get another good used car battery real cheap (any size) and keep it charged in your home all weekend and then all week leave it on the passenger floor hooked up to the new "jumper cable" pigtail?

The tight new bearings showed up a loose upper ball joint on the passenger side, installed this morning.
Now all I have left is to put my summers on the back wheels......

Cleaned out the EGR for the second time. Took about 2 hours cleaning it in situ with Q tips and carb cleaner. A quick blask on the highway to clear it out and then reset the fault code. Good as new and she's pulling again like when she first got her upgrade!

I find that the wider tires on the rear handles better in highway driving and it also take corners pretty good. I am thinking about buying the BF Goodrich G Force tires.

Ew.

Found out some good news and some not good news today. MB West Island has received the go-ahead from MBC to replace everything in my doors (except the hinges). While playing around with my car this last week, they also discovered that my aircon is dead again, so they have put in for authorization to do the new AC fix.

The bad? While removing some masking tape from my front end that was intended to protect from scratches while they took off the panels, some paint peeled off -- last year's accident repairs involved painted black panels. So they will likely be sending my front end back to the body shop to be re-sprayed.

That sounds like good news, if the winter had been unkind to the paint! Aside from the hassle factor. Why do you need new "everything" in your doors?

I have only put about 12k km on the 450 since getting the 451. Now that the warm weather is nearly here the 450 will be driven much more often.

Sounds like something I need to do - I just got the P0401 code on my way home last night. Can you or anyone else describe the in situ process of cleaning out the EGR (or direct me to a how-to)?

Switched back to the scratch black panels this afternoon (1.5 hours this time). I also topped up the AC, since it seemed to be running warm. I'd love to get the permanent AC fix, but Star won't be getting my patronage, so it'll have to wait.

Did this on Friday night. I wasn't in limp mode, but the ride does seem smoother at least.

Something I forgot to ask is does the emulator work the same as removing the EGR with respect to a decrease in fuel consumption?

Also:
- Changed my winter wheels on Tuesday night
- Changed my oil about 10 days ago
- Will do the euro side marker mod so they blink with my signals (didn't know it was so easy).

might want to move your turn signals up to the head lights while your at it. they are much brighter then canadian turn signals in the grill.

Last fall, I visited lebikerboy Rick in North Van to do some really ugly and filthy work on my engine. We both ended up with our sets of tools all grimy and coated in soot and oily diesel. I made mine even worse when I got to Kelowna and had to do an emergency patch job and then replace the block plate we put on the end of the exhaust-to-EGR tube.

Since then I haven't done much to my car except some washing and engine cleanup, but I'm getting ready to get a few things done soon. And I need clean tools to start the new "mod year". So today, I got a new box of vinyl gloves and de-greased my carry-set of sockets, drivers, pliers and hex keys.

Admitting that there are a number of down-sides to living the single life, one of the special advantages is that the kitchen entirely is under my control, so I can take over all the counter space, for as long as I want, with my tools, and use the stainless steel sink (great lighting in the kitchen!) to do my tool maintenance.

I can use the hair dryer to dry them. And I can have my tool cupboard(s) and storage boxes right in the living room!

Uh-huh yes.gif .... that's what I did today.

Hell I do that and I'm married wink.gif

Well Sandy and I drove into Vic in the white smart to pick up a pack at MEC for Jenn....and to get a rear hub looked at (on the Cervélo bike). I just took the wheel, not the whole bike! We were in the white car and had fun punting up the Malahat through the twisties, the roadholding is massive now.

Cleaned, oiled and re-installed the intercooler fan.
Fabricated another "it'll do until I can afford to make something better" version of the EGR delete pipe.
Cleaned and brushed up the engine some more with Sunlight® dish soap and a stiff-bristled parts washing brush.

All this took nearly three hours...... hmm.... what does a heart attack feel like? LOL!

I have cold air again! And my doors work!

I tried to find where the paint peeled but could not, so that's good. A couple of very minor surface scuffs at the rear of the front wings where they may have hit the open doors while being removed, but I was going to detail (clean-polish-wax) the car soon anyway. A couple of annoyances: my right (up-shift) RS Parts paddle was off and sitting on the passenger seat. I assume the screws loosened over time and it fell off while they were working on it; because it was after-market, they didn't re-install it. It took 30 seconds to snug back up once home. Then as I got underway, I tried to adjust the mirrors. The driver's side mirror is hooked up backwards! Left is right, up is down! I can see this could be an honest mistake while putting the door back together. Luckily it's trivial to rectify this at home.

It's a bit early, but I'm optimistic that the new, clean latches (with their clean micro-switches) will normalize the operation of Pinhead19's "No More Slammin'" module. Speaking of which, Brian: did you ever get around to fixing my passenger side module?

The green car now has its strikelines with wide tires back on. The winter tires are close to 4 mm so I probably should get some new ones this fall. 60,060 km at this point......would have made it to 80K km at 2 mm but that's too shallow for winters!! Dang it.

I forgot to mention that the Continental Eco Contacts (175/55-15) on the front of the car, which were just reinstalled today, have 108,514 km on them, and have 5 mm of tread left.

Yes, they are like plastic, very un-grippy compared to the rears. It's interesting how long they're lasting though, with some people complaining about going through front tires in 40K km.

I think next year I will put some Conti Pros - like the Canada 1 has - on the green car's front axle.

I treated the Nappa (dyed through) leather surfaces on the Canada 1 with Connolly Hide Care, took a while but it was well worth it!

Changed the coolant today. Bit of a pain to get rid of an airlock
in the system but used Evilution's method and finally did. Some
interesting black bits came out with the old coolant and, I wonder if
M/B flushed it out three years ago when it was last (first) done?

Why not bleed the easy and proper way way by letting air out at the bleed point?
