(18 August 2016 - 09:05 PM)Gone is the Volvo V50 T5 FWD automatic.... I got $4500 trade, which with the tax savings got me $5040 of my $5500 total out of pocket on purchase and tax and repairs... not bad for a years driving.... the mazda has a 5 year UNLIMITED kms warranty on the powertrain.... and 3 years unlimited kms bumper to bumper.... unreal. Looks like it can do 6.0 on the highway, just anecdotally from the trip meter in the vehicle, but we'll see soon enough.
(18 August 2016 - 09:02 PM)Tuesday night, I spent about 5 hours on the net doing a bit more looking into new vehicles... and long story short, decided by 2 am Wednesday that I was likely to get a new Mazda CX-5 in FWD with a 6 speed manual.... Went into the dealer at 4 Wednesday and was done the deal by 6... picked up the dark grey base model at 1 pm today, and so far, I'm pretty impressed. Therefore, the k has become an m....
(14 August 2016 - 07:49 AM)Unscrew the SAM from the front edge of the dash - T-10. Then it's easier to pull the whole thing down and get at the top side where all the connectors are. They're all labelled, molded into the SAM casing. N11-3 with the brown plug.
(14 August 2016 - 07:38 AM)It's interesting that when I started to remove the cardboard cover that hides the SAM the actual unit was already unclipped and dangling...the dealer I got it from must have been monkeying about in there. The thing cranks rapidly but won't start and there is no fuel pump sound.
(13 August 2016 - 09:54 AM)For clarity, what I called "connector" below in the first post is actually the whole plug or plug head (brown plastic) but elsewhere it means the single electrical contact within the plug.
(13 August 2016 - 09:29 AM)With respect to replacing the plug head, the plastic bit will be enough but if the corrosion or heat damage on the female connector is too bad you can replace that single connector.
(13 August 2016 - 09:28 AM)Take out the N-11-2 connector and look for melting. If there is melting, if you are lucky replacing the plug head (repair kit available from Mercedes) will revive the SAM. And that plus both headlight circuits require an external relay to protect the SAM. There are threads in the operations and maintenance forum about this.
