That's a gasket kit, not a full rebuild kit, but I'm quite sure many smarts have had a new HP pump installed because of a leaky gasket. Also confident that if you brought a pump to Fred Holmes or another good diesel fuel systems shop and could wait for parts, many more pumps and $$$ could have been saved.
(Everything to do with the high pressure side is very specialized and tricky. The gasket kit probably field installs fine, but as a rule you only change components in a automotive shop, all component rebuilds happens at the specialist who may not even work on vehicles at all.)

It is a sure bet that many $330 pumps have been sold (or re/re under warranty) where a $40 gasket repair would have solved the problem. Just as many $1,000 turbos were no doubt replaced where a $10 seal would probably have fixed the surface oil leak.

This is why it is great to find and post more efficient repairs. BTW, this gasket re/re is something that smart indies have been doing for years and years in UK.

Several years back there was an internal MB/smart memo to service departments across Canada basically telling them, "smarten the f up, you are wasting resources and costing us money with unnecessary warranty replacements on these perfectly good turbos!"
