	Hello Hive minds!
</p>

<p>
	I just picked up a '13 451 at auction.  Had a dead battery.  Once powered up with a new battary, no start. Has the "Three Bars of Death" and a locked gearshift, do not hear the actuator move. No brake lights.
</p>

<p>
	Pulled the codes:
</p>

<p>
	P0500  vehicle speed sensor malfunction
</p>

<p>
	U0146  Lost coms with central gateway mod
</p>

<p>
	U0122  lost coms with vehicle dynamic control mod
</p>

<p>
	U0103  lost coms with gear shift mod
</p>

<p>
	U0100  lost coms with Engine control mod
</p>

<p>
	U0001  lost coms with canbus
</p>

<p>
	P0947  TCM low voltage
</p>

<p>
	P00FF  misc garbage code
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	What I have done so far:
</p>

<p>
	I've removed the SAM and resoldered some maybe suspect joints, checked all fuses / connections, reinstalled.
</p>

<p>
	Replaced brake switch (thats a pain to do!).  Still no brake lights.
</p>

<p>
	Pulled the drivers seat and checked the shifter module for water damage.  Dry of all watermarks, connections clean.
</p>

<p>
	Checked grounds by battery and SAM, checked visable wiring for breaks and damages.
</p>

<p>
	hooked up a booster cable between negitive post and engine block (just in case). Still no start, 3 bars and locked gearshift.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I need more ideas to check over!  My mind is not up to the task Lol.
</p>

	I'm really sorry about the long winded story but I want to provide as much information as possible. <br />
	A couple of years ago I had to replace and "reteach" the clutch actuator on my 2008 Smart car when it wouldn't shift and showed the error code P0805 (clutch position sensor circuit).<br />
	A few weeks ago it started "lurching" on the way home and again wouldn't shift properly. Then it stopped dead and wouldn't start. I waited a few minutes and managed to start it, "reteach" the transmission and drove it home. A few weeks later... same drill. This time the "reteach" didn't work but I was able to cripple it home. I topped up the transmission fluid which was a bit low and then I pulled the error code P0805 again. <br />
	I ordered and installed a new clutch actuator... and went through a number of different "reteach" procedures (3bars/brake down/gas down/disconnect battery) but I can only get 1st and 2nd gears to show on the dashboard. Something under the car makes a sound when the transmission is shifted but it's not the actuator. I tried the actuator in different notch positions but now I can't even move the actuator back and forth any more at all. It seems to have a lot of pressure pushing it backwards. I'm afraid to remove it because last time I couldn't get it back in. The plunger was stuck in the out position.<br />
	The wiring seems to be fine and I'm not getting a P0900 (circuit open) or P0901/P0903 (circuit malfunction) code. <br />
	Please somebody help!

	<span style="font-size:20px;">I've got a 2010 Smart Car 451 with 2 key fobs, both were working in good condition. I had both key fobs in the same pocket for a couple of days. When I went to use the one key fob, it appeared to have lost it's programming since the remote functions no longer worked. Tried changing the battery but found no change in function. I figured it just needed to be reprogrammed. Went to my local dealer to inquire about it. The dealer told me that the key is programmed for life and can't be reprogrammed with the key now being faulty. They told me that I'd need to purchase a new key ($300) plus the cost of programming the new key, price seems rather steep..</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:20px;">Is this the only method of getting the key working again by replacing the whole key with a new key plus programming it..? Is there an easier fix to get the original key working again..?</span>

	In the fall I replaced the tires on our 451 CityFlame with oversized tires after doing some reading about this on Evilution.<br />
	The fronts were replaced with <span style="background-color:#ffffff;color:#000000;font-size:13px;text-align:left;">175/55R15 and the rears with 195/50R15. </span>
</p>

<p>
	<span style="background-color:#ffffff;color:#000000;font-size:13px;text-align:left;">What an amazing improvement in the ride and handling with these tires. You no longer shudder and shake when you inadvertently hit a pothole or other imperfections in the road, like the unintended (?) speed bumps on 400 series highways. Years ago, I had a similar improvement when I replaced the stock rims on a 2004 pulse 450 with Brabus rims. </span><br />

</p>

<p>
	<span style="background-color:#ffffff;color:#000000;font-size:13px;text-align:left;">This changeover in tire size comes highly recommended.</span>

	I had an interesting Saturday. I was the support person for''Wild''who wanted to replace the clutch on his 451 that has clocked 380,000kms.
</p>

<p>
	I provided the heated shop, the hoist, and a second set of hands when needed.
</p>

<p>
	It was not necessary to drop the engine. The oem guidelines were followed and the entire job took 7 hours.
</p>

<p>
	Not a job for the faint of heart but it is doable.

<p>
	Most of my day was working on a 2001 gas powered 450 with only 45,000kms. It's a pure so I added a clock/ tach and got the radio working. It was in storage for 20 years so is in very good condition.

	Hello, first time poster, no time to write intro post unfortunately.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	new owner of my first smart and was sold it private under impression it needed a new clutch plate actuator, and new belt (alternator was seized). I was under the car trying to replace the belt when I found a hole and cracked metal at the low-point on the transmission/clutch (unsure which part). It’s the lowest part of the engine and appears someone hit a rock and punctured it. <br />

</p>

<p>
	the hole is the size of my pinky nearly and all the oil has clearly drained (not since I’ve owned it, but prior)
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Is there any way I can upload a video? Either way I can’t do much from here but ask, what part do I need to replace?

<p>
	Hello...
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I'm a bit stumped on this one and am not sure where to turn to next other than a commercial shop.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The victim is a 2011 with approximately 178,000km on it.
</p>

<p>
	On a recent attempt to start it, it fired once or twice then immediately stalled.  Attempts to re-start it have been unsuccessful ever since.
</p>

<p>
	There are no stored error codes.  A borescope in the oil filler hole shows that cam chain tension appears to be good and both cams are rotating normally when cranking.  I've verified that it has spark, fuel pressure measured at the rail is ~42psi when priming and cranking, and all three injectors will spray fuel during cranking.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Any and all advice is appreciated!
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Cheers,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Those who have tested for spark on their Smarts or on similar coil-on-plug engines, what tester did you use?  I have one of these but the end which connects to the spark plug is way too flexible to clip on to plugs which sit at the bottom of a well.

<p>
	Hi group,  i usually stick with the 450's but yesterday i came across a 451 that i just had to take home with me.
</p>

<p>
	its a 2008 passion with 90k on it,   car is in excellent shape but ....
</p>

<p>
	no start,  possible clutch shot,  3 bars  and who knows what else.   (car came with a spare SAM and has a new actuator installed)  which usually is not a good sign. <img alt=":(" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="https://clubsmartcar.com/uploads/emoticons/default_sad.png" srcset="https://clubsmartcar.com/uploads/emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x" title=":(" width="20" />
</p>

<p>
	anyway what i plan on doing is a detailed post with lots of pictures  (like i did with one of my 450's)
</p>

<p>
	smarts need to stay on the road,  so this will be another one that i need to save   (wife still thinks i have something wrong in my head) lol.
</p>

<p>
	cheers.
</p>
