Esp Issue...
stickman007 replied to stickman007's topic in Operation and Maintenance: 450 Model, 2005-2006, diesel
When you jump pin 2 and 7...it disables the ABS, ESP system....on mine, the handbrake light also comes on...the anti roll back thing also stops working.http://www.evilution.co.uk/index.php?id=560If you jump the wrong pins, you can fry your ecu though....IzzyMy knock-off MBStar system also decided to stop working!! It was running fine the last time i used it, and now that i finally need it, it fails...Lesson learned, you get what you paid for... -
Esp Issue...
stickman007 replied to stickman007's topic in Operation and Maintenance: 450 Model, 2005-2006, diesel
Hmm...thanks the input guys! Diagnosing the real problem is never what it seems on the surface. I have been noticing that the clutch seems to be slipping from day one, even after adjusting and lubing the actuator. I don't have a garage and its wet and miserable outside...don't have any cash to pay anybody else to do it cause I'm a teacher I guess I should start begging? On the other hand, after doing the paperclip mod yesterday (still can't find a stupid fuse diagram that is reliable)...the car seems to be driving fine, (as good as it gets without ESP/ABS). The only thing is ABS/ESP/Handbrake lights stays on. I'm a little on the OCD side, so definitely have to work on it this weekend.Tolsen: I will check the wiring to the the actuator for sure. My IAT wires failed this summer...so I'm not surprised that the actuator wires/connector could too.Izzy -
Esp Issue...
stickman007 replied to stickman007's topic in Operation and Maintenance: 450 Model, 2005-2006, diesel
So I tried to "disable" the ESP this morning by pulling the fuse only to realize that my owners manual fuse layout does not correspond to the actual fuse layout!!! Its completely wrong!! I'm sure I have the original manual. So much for driving to work :(I think the closes fuse layout I can find is on evilution "Canadian CDI layout"Also, I have no ABS light! If it was the reluctor ring(s) or even sensors...wouldn't my ABS light go on too? -
Its finally my turn to have ESP issues! Woohoo...Symptoms:Starting from a full stop, car would just drop the clutch..sometimes stalls the engine, but most of the time it just a couple jolt and very rough engagement. After that, ESP light will stay on and car will not shift properly. If I shut the car off, wait a little, the ESP light will be off and the car will start smooth like it should until the ESP light comes on again or a full stop.Condition:Wet and snowy? Its a 2005 Fortwo, mods I've done that might have something to do with this (not sure if they effect anything): ESP grounding switch, Roadster rims from Eddy. I've noticed that if I turn ESP off before I stop the car, it will not start rough. But if anything else cause the ESP light to turn on, then the light stays on and I'm screwed until I turn the car off.My guess:sensor wiring to the ESP or reflector ring crack/rust?Any input? I will craw underneath the car to check wiring and ring this wkend, as for now...just trying to research. Can I just pull the ESP fuse and run without traction control until I have time to trace the wiring?IzzyPS. Haven't had time to hook it up to my MBstar yet...will have to wait till the wkend.

CANMAN: Here's the site where I "stole" the beading tool idea from, I decided to mod it by using a washer instead of building up a weld on the lower jaw. I think it made my bead a little more consistent http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/tech-tips/...ead-roller.html My car seems to have a bit more power at start up, looking at my valve, I think its clogged open or something its definitely running better. It was a pain in the butt loosing one of the bolts going into EGR from the exhaust, (I actually had to drill it cause I stripped the head). When I have more time, I wonder if I can weld a port in on that pipe and use it for a boost gauge? Bilgladstone: Thanks for pioneering something like this! I would've never attempted something like this without seeing other people try it first. I realized that I ran out of zip ties 1/2 through, so I opted to use velcro wire ties as a temporary for now. Another thing that I've noticed, (I think there was a thread about it somewhere that I can't find), there's quite a bit of oil in the intake system. Can I just put a filter vent on the PCV line and then plug the intake port? Oil catch can? Sorry if this has already been discussed, (please point me in the right direction!) Izzy- 33 replies

This past weekend I've decided to remove my EGR valve completely since I'm running a EGR emulator that I got from Pinhead. As suggested by Bilgladstone, I went to my local CanTire and got a 1-3/4 ID resonator, 18" length, Canadian Tire part #548651. I also found an online source on how to build a tool that can make a bead on the pipe so that the hose won't pop off. Total cost for the mod:EGR Emulator $100Resonator pipe $10Pipe Clamp $5Extra hose clamp $2Scrap metal to cover exhaust pipe $0Total: $117Beading Tool:Old Vice clamp $0Washer $0.80Word of advice - there's very little hose (the elbow that's connected to the bottom of the EGR valve) to fit the resonator pipe, be careful, measure 3x before cutting!Good luck,Izzy

Accompanied with a lot of profanity and yelling, I've deleted the EGR valve! (Thanks Bilgladstone for the pipe length and exhaust cover plate info). Next on the list, circulating block heater!

Mine was 4.2L/100km. My roadster wheels didn't seem to hurt my average much! Although I do a lot of short drives during the week.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards diesel quality too...doesn't matter summer or winter

Not sure if anybody else noticed, but I get worst mileage in AB. I usually drive around 100km/hr on the hwy. Always try to fill up at Petrocan.in AB, my average is 4.4l/100kmin BC, my average is 3.7l/100kmDifference in diesel quality? or just more wind? Any ideas?

I think I saw you on my way into Kamloops last nite around 4pm??! You have a white cabrio? Thanks for waving!!Back on topic: Got back from my AB roadtrip this wkend and installed my winter tires on roadster rims from Eddy! Love how much more stable the car is now on wider rims!

2005 Cdi Won't Shut Off
stickman007 replied to 12Alfa's topic in Operation and Maintenance: 450 Model, 2005-2006, diesel
Had something similar happen like this a few years ago at work. A John Deere combine wouldn't shut off even after the battery cables have been pulled! Traced it to a fused diode on a cellphone charger that the farmer had installed. The cell battery was enough to keep the engine running! -

Before I order a new cable, was wondering if anybody would have a pin digram on a OBDII (16pin) to C3 Multiplex cable. I've recently purchased a MB star system...It works great until a couple days ago when I was playing with it going into DAS, the program informed me that it is not able to communicate with the car because pin 30 or 31 is not getting voltage. Can't seem to tell which one is pin 30 or 31 cuz the connector side is labelled with alphabets! I checked my connection and connectors and noticed that my cable was essentially pulled apart at the back (the connector on the cable that connects to the multiplex, poor quality?)...I can remove pins and resolder wires if I have to, but can't seem to find out which wires go where. I know a new cable costs around $50, but I really don't want to spend the money if I can fix it.suggestions? help? Thanks in advance,IzzyPS. Just ordered a TAN code calculator, (I hope it works)...if someone can help me with this, I would definitely generate some codes for them

Yup! Sure does...can't seem to find a local place that sells the fascia plate. Had to hack up the old stereo.
