  1. Hello all Does anyone happen to have a pair of rear summer tires available for a 2005 Smart? The tire size is p175 55 r15. Feel free to give me a call directly at 647 464 0080 They don't need to be brand new, just better then the bald ones I have! I figure it's getting close to the time for installing the winters and have an opportunity to get the summers switched. Thanks guys Albert
  2. wow - you guys rock! Thank you for the options and suggestions! Looks like a solution is in sightJ Ok here is a bit tougher one... Unfortunately I have snapped off one of the screws that hold the oil pan in place. I had the pan replaced and have recently sprung a slow leak from the area missing the bolt. (you know the real skinny ones that look like they will break!) The bolt is stuck about halfway down the hole and CAN NOT be gripped by vice grips or such. Any ideas on how to remove a broken screw from the engine block? Also, since it looks like I will be removing the pan, anyone know where I can get one that has a drain plug built in? Not sure why, but this car sure loves attention and I put up with it!
  3. Hello All! Hope everyone has their smart ready for the winter months! Just put the snows on mine! Does anyone have any Side Marker Lights available for a 2005 Model? I realized that I have a poor connection on the drivers side and unfortunately it's not working properly!!! Perhaps i should consider an upgrade? Any advice on where I could find the part?? Thanks All!
  4. HelloI noticed the same issue with my rear windows....What do you guys think if instead of removing the window entirely I was to just remove the plastic casing inside the trunk and spray the edges with this leak seal stuff...does anyone have any experience with this??
  5. [Hey Flossy - that was quick! Thanks for the tip on the harness!Geese, removing the dash sounds like fun - yikes! Any walk thru available for this step that you know of?Are there any other speakers in the car other then the two on the dash?? Also, sorry I don't understand... how can the 5.25s fit where the 2.5s are? This might be a stupid question but Im allowed one once and a while :)CheersAlbert
  6. HELLO ALL!Hope everyone is enjoying the fine weather we have been experiencing!!Ive been searching these posts for any information on changing out the factory dash to replace it with a new one. Im fed up with these expensive, yet poor solutions, for hands free phone calls (the little Bluetooth boxes that sit in the drivers side visor) and am interested in upgrading my radio to accommodate a built in Bluetooth system like any newer car... Has anyone changed out their factory radio and installed a new one? If so, where did you locate the Kit to do so?? I was in future shop today and their system could only go back to 2006 and had nothing for the 2005. Any suggestions on a deck or system that works well for phonecalls??Im not really interested in flashing lights, cd or many other details. Just as close to perfect phone connection... Any suggestions on where to locate the harness kit and tips for installation? Is this a difficult thing to do? My attitude is to by any special tools myself (If required) and try to do it myself if its not that tough of a job. I did the side blinker mod on my own and enjoyed every min of it!Also, Id be interested in replacing the factory speakers if there are speakers available that I could literally just plug in the place of the existing... Has anyone done this? Is there a walk thru available??My Smart is a 2005 Passion model.. BTW I just got the car wrapped with our company logo! Its looking great, will upload some pics soon.Any suggestions would be great. Thanks guys
  7. Yes!Best bet is to call a mb dealer and provide your vin to determine eligibility
  8. Happy Birthday Buddy! Not sure of your favourite flavour so I took a guess...
  9. ******Update******Hello all,AC is still blowing cold! (Thank goodness!!)Looks like the Duracool kit has worked. The kit I purchased was the one with the duraseal can included. The only issue I have is that at idle the air temp increases and is no longer cold. While driving the air can get nice and cold... Any ideas why this can be? Anyone else experience this and know of a fix?Perhaps I just need another bottle to add some more Duracool refrigerant??
  10. I thought to update everyone on my experience now that this AC journey has reached a conclusion. The final result is the dealer said the car is not covered for any AC repair that was issued in the past for two main reasons:1. the fact the car is almost 10 years old2. the car does not have a maintenance record with MBThese two reasons actually make sense to me. If I was in the shoes of MB, I would probably have the same point of view. My frustration with the entire process is this information was not presented 3 weeks ago in the beginning of the process. It was only until I escalated the issue to the service manager (who was supposed to follow up with me after receiving the 5 different excuses!). When we connected on the phone, he had no idea of the situation and was able to get this info to me within 24hrs. Although I was disappointed with the response, the service manager did agree that it was not necessary to inspect the car in the first place (even though I was instructed to have the car inspected) and refunded the money paid for the 2 hrs of labor. In the end Im glad to know there is some integrity at the MB Dealer in Mississauga but you have to ensure you ask the proper questions to understand exactly whats going on with your car. This goes to show you that even at a high end dealer, customer service can be spotty and you need to not get fooled by the fancy appearance of high end finishes and 150k cars in a show room. Because of this forum I was well informed, asked the right questions and am sure the service guys could tell that a BS answer would not hold water with me.Thank you to everyone who provided comments and guidance thru this process. I hope this experience encourages other smart owners to do some of their own homework prior to getting their Smart serviced - Even at MB Canada! Now its off to the garage to install my duracool kit!!!
  11. Buy a good torx screw driver set!pretty much everything on the car is held down with a T screw! If your looking at a diesel, check the intercooler for leaks and AC to ensure its working!!
  12. You guys are awesome :)dmoonen, really appreciate you reaching out. Are you around tomorrow late afternoon by chance?
  13. Hello All!Looks like my airbag light has recently illuminated.. Ive already had the drivers side connector removed and connection fixed so I have a gut feeling that it could be the passenger side this time.Does anyone by chance have a scanner in the GTA who would be open to running a scan?We could use the good old barter system..... Ill have a few cold ones waiting for ya!Any advice or insight would be great! Thanks guys.
  14. Hello AllDoes anyone think the diesel vpower from shell is worth while for their smart? Also, any other diesel I've owned had a fuel filter... I thought this was the norm! Guess not. Is a filter necessary for these cars?
  15. Does anyone know if its illegal for a mechanic to charge an A/C system with freon if there is a known leak? Looks like 3 days later my a/c has gone caput! At this point during my next conversation I will be asking MB as to where exactly on the car is the leak coming from and how large/small are the holes...Has anyone used the Duracool system? Any advice with this stuff?
  16. Hey DalplexTo be honest I don't remember but I do know it was significantly less then MB and you can trust those guys to tell you what's really going on with your car. I would recommend reaching out to Glen directly and have him price out a fix to any problems you might be experiencing. There is also an article posted with a list of independents depending on where your locatedHope this helps!
  17. In the end they did an AC diagnostic to find the following:"113509 VERIFIED CONCERN -AC INOP, ATTACHED AC MACHINE, LOW SIDE 10PSI, SYSTEM EMPTY, RE-CHERGED VEHICLE WITH DYE, LOWERED REAR DRIVE MODULE! RE AND RE UNDER PANELS, *NOTE SOME SCREWS SEIZED, FOUND AC LEAKING AT LOW AND HIGH SIDE LINE QUICK CONNECT COUPLERS AND AC LINE FITTINGS"From what I understand the repair is NOT covered because I've missed the final date the car was eligible. So essentially they automatically recharged the system and it will slowly leak out. I find it ironic that they would charge a car with a known fault that HAD a service bulletin out to fix, only to let the gas leak into the atmosphere they are allegedly protecting! LolJust to be clear, the responses I've received in the last two days has been:The repair has already been done because there is no record in their system and I was good to go (Service guy 1)The car is not eligible because it was only for cars 2007- present (Service guy 1)The car is not eligible because I've missed the cut off date for the repair (Service guy 2)So my question at this point is, why would they have me do a diagnostic if the initial AC service bulletin is out dated?? In this case no matter what repair was required it would not be covered IF this is true.To many inconsistent story's. I've asked them to follow up with me on Monday with the specific service bulletin number and specific dates the car WAS eligible. Once I get these specifics, I will contact MB head office and cross reference. Fortunately I understand a little bit about the system and paying 270 bucks isn't going to kill me but this is not the point. I'm 100% certain there are/were other owners in my situation and probably just accepted the first BS excuse they were given. This is not right. They did provide a loaner and the service for this was great. I think it was because it just so happened some recall work needed to be done on the locks and they were running behind on all their appointments. I get it, my car is 9 years old but if this is a known issue and eligible for a repair, why does it take this much effort to get a straight answer. I just don't like being given a plate full of BS.To be continued...
  18. Welcome. This place is filled with people who care!
  19. [Hey Flossy, thanks for the quick reply. It's Mississauga MB. Your service number might come in handy. I'm actually going to turn around and Wait for that info before picking the car up! The challenge I find with MB is I'm getting multiple different story's depending onWho I'm speaking with..
  20. Hello AllJust keeping everyone updated....so far the response is that AFTER taking the car in for 2hrs they said the hoses are not covered because this service bulletin was for cars 2007 and later!!! They also did a recall service on the door locks. Overall the experience so far has been either VERY good or poor, depending on the individual I'm speaking with. It seems that very few ppl at the dealership actually know what's going on with the Smarts...Does this make sense to anyone?I haven't picked up the car just yet...Thoughts?
  21. HelloUnfortunately Im experiencing A/C issues similar to many who have posted in the past.Just as a quick note Ive called a MB dealer and booked an appointment to take the car in for a "diagnostic" inspection. The rep over the phone said they usually only offer the repair to the hoses for the original owner. My car is a 2005 Passion and I am the 3rd owner and the diagnostic could cost as much as 200 bucks just to look at it.My thoughts are, before they touch the car, have them commit to the repair free of charge. This way, at least the repair to the AC is worth the investment.Any thoughts of as to what I should say or handle the conversation with the service dept??OTHERWISE my idea is to just do a full Duracool service for 100 bucks..
  22. There are still good people out there…Hello,Id like to take a few moments and share my story with this forum. Im not sure if this is posted in the right place but hopefully whoever has a chance to read this, it provides some level of insight or guidance. My wife and I decided to buy a Smart car as a second vehicle. We live in Toronto and these things are great for getting around town. After looking at 4 or 5 I became more comfortable with the car and was able to make meaningful comparisons. I finally found one in a small town about 1.5hrs from Toronto into the bush off kijiji (private sale). It was from a second owner who said he did most of the work on the car himself including oil changes and a ball joint he recently replaced. He claimed to be a rail yard mechanic and given he also had some other older cars that he was working on, the story made sense. The car was clean, little to no rust, low KM’s, summer driven, no leaks and looked to be well maintained… so I thought. We arrived at night to see the car (directions were a pain) and by the end of the night I followed the owner to the closest bank to give him $400 bucks for a deposit. Given I had driven for almost 2hrs to a place my GPS couldn’t even find, I asked him to sign a small letter that had our agreed price and that he indeed received $400. Without an issue he signed the paper and said “you know, there are still some good people out there”.When the seller took the car to the mechanic the next day for the safety, the only items the car required to pass were a new bulb in the front and a new brake line on the front passenger side. $180 bucks and it was ready to go. He covered the bulb, I covered the brake line and that was that. The day I got the car home, it started leaking oil all over our driveway. As soon as I noticed the leak, I drove the car to the closest Mercedes dealer in Maple off of Jane St. Long story short, the representative couldn’t have been more arrogant and I started to face the reality that not even Mercedes Mechanics like working on these cars – even at the Mercedes hourly shop rate! (someone forgot to tell the Smart Car sales department!) Add insult to injury, the earliest they could book me in was in 3 weeks! When I arrived home I did some research online and found it was probably a leaking intercooler and min an additional $1500 plus tax to fix. I also found this club and by chance I took some pictures and thought to share the issue. To my surprise, there were some very meaningful responses that confirmed my findings. One member in particular, known as Uncle Glen, reached out with some thoughtful insight. We connected later that night over the phone and an hr later he agreed to see my car the following Easter Monday. It was obvious from our conversation Glen was a true smart enthusiast and knew these cars well. Before driving to London, I took the next day to do some research on Glen to get a better idea of who he is. The reviews written are true. He knows these cars well and there is probably very little him and his partner Matt cant fix. The best part is they are Honest, Trust Worthy, Have Integrity, and are simply good people. The complete opposite of my experience with MB. I arrived in London at approx. 8:15am and he looked to be as happy to meet my car as he was with meeting myself. Looking back I would have driven 500km one way to see him and this is why…My intercooler was out, cleaned the underside of the car and replaced without a hitchMB equivalent service completed at the same timeOil Changed with synthetic oil that significantly reduces the noise from the diesel motorAir Filter changedServiced my brakes and showed me why they were OK!Noticed my car should never have passed the safety due to a broken passenger side spring (fixed)Fixed a fault with the draining system to the AC (no issues reported but Matt knew there would be future issues if it wasn’t looked after)Serviced the actuator Replaced an oxygen sensorDid some computer work, cleared some faults, explained every step of the way and found everything to be A OK…. There was just one small fault with the restraint system but no light was on the dash so we thought it would be ok.During this time Glen and Matt also explained what they were doing and provided some useful tips on the maintaining good Smart health. At approx. 9pm and 11 work hours hrs later, we did another road test and the car ran like new (HUGE noticeable difference). I also purchased set of summer tires with rims and I was on my way. Very happy at this point…. And this is where the story begins…10 min into my drive back to Toronto, the car was unable to accelerate past 95/100km and would not switch into 6th gear in auto mode. I contacted Glen and without hesitation he asked that I return back to his shop. By this time its approx. 9:30pm. I was grateful he was open to work on the car so late into the evening to try and diagnose and fix the issue. Matt also returned to lend his expertise. Between the two and another hr of testing etc they found the culprit to be a part on the turbo that needed some lubrication and the car was back to normal… except one issue… the safety restraint error code was now a major fault and the airbag system would not function if needed. A major issue in my books. Furthermore, there wasstill no indicator light on the dash indicating any trouble. Glen said he had an idea of what the issue was but couldn’t understand why the light wasn’t illuminating to reflect it. He reached under the seat, grabbed a wire, broke the connecter and 10min later he soldered a direct connection. He all of a sudden turned to me and said, I bet you there is no bulb in the dash. The scary thing was not only does he know these cars better than Mercedes but he was bang on. The engine light was also removed! He replaced both bulbs and they have remained off ever since.By then end of the night, 3 more hours of work, I was, and still am, incredibly grateful I met Glen and Matt. They are a true example of good people and will not hesitate to recommend their services to any Smart owner. Moral of the story, there are still good people out there and anyone who is thinking of buying a Smart PLEASE bring it to Glen for an inspection before buying it and driving away. You will not be disappointed, unless of course, you expect a Tassimo coffee served to you while waiting wink.gif THANK YOU GLEN & MATT. See you in 5000 km!
  23. HelloLooking at these photos again, it looks like the oil could be coming from the top left of the photo as well....
  24. HelloLooks like I found the culprit and its a seal around some type of sensor.I also notice that one of the wires is broken coming from the sensor.Has anyone experienced this before and knows how to fix? How, where do I get a new sensor from etcI've taken some pics of the location... Does this look familiar to anyone?
  25. Hello all,First off, thank you to the ppl who invented this forum stuff.. I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences and learning about these cars. MB costs so darn much to service. As a new Smart owner myself, I thought to bring my car to the dealer for my first service and general check. Well I was met with an arrogant prick and a 3 week waiting list. Looks like MB doesn't need any more business then they already have...So I bought a 2005 Diesel Smart with 112k on it. Previous owner swears it never leaked, lone behold I drove it home and it sprung a leak. I'm not an expert but it looks to be coming from the left side (drivers side) of the engine and from the intercooler. I've read a few threads on how these connections could be faulty.Question is, can someone recommend what is the best way to fix this issue. I'm moderately handy myself but would need some detailed instructions if possible. I'd like to apply any new products or enhancements that are now available to avoid this from happening again.Someone please help! We love this car but its leaking on our driveway!!!Cheers This post has been edited by Aaragona22: A minute ago
